David Ellison announced on October 2 that the combined company would be called Skydance. The planned legal name is Skydance Corporation, according to Paramount’s investor FAQ. The announcement refers to the parent company, not a replacement name for the entertainment brands people watch or use.

Ellison said the name would give the combined company a distinct identity while keeping its established brands prominent. As Axios reported on October 2, Ellison said it gives “the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.” Axios also reported that Skydance was the name of Ellison’s production company, which merged with Paramount the prior year.

When does the Skydance name take effect?
Paramount’s investor FAQ said the company expected to amend its certificate of incorporation to become Skydance Corporation in connection with the acquisition closing, anticipated for October 6, 2026. That date was a projection, not confirmation that the change had taken place: as of October 3, the closing remained subject to customary closing conditions.
A federal judge approved Paramount’s settlement with 12 states on September 30, clearing a legal hurdle. The companies still described the acquisition closing as expected and conditional in their October 1 Form 8-K. The FAQ also associated the anticipated closing with a planned change of the Class B stock ticker from PSKY to SKYD and a transfer of its listing to the New York Stock Exchange; those actions were not yet reported as completed at the time.
