Yes. Skydance Corporation completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) on October 6, 2026. WBD remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Skydance, and the company identifies the combined company as Skydance. That does not mean Paramount+ and HBO Max have become one streaming service.
What happened—and what is the company called?
Skydance Corporation completed its acquisition of WBD on October 6, 2026, according to the company’s Form 8-K. The filing says WBD survived as a wholly owned subsidiary of Skydance. In its announcement of the completed transaction, the company calls the combined company Skydance.

So “one company” describes the new ownership structure, not the disappearance of every familiar name. Paramount, Warner Bros., HBO, CBS, CNN, and the streaming services remain brands or assets in the portfolio; the announcement describes a combination of studios, streaming services, television assets, news networks, and content.

Not based on the completion announcement or SEC filing. Neither specifies that Paramount+ and HBO Max will be combined, bundled, repriced, or have their catalogs moved into one service. The services are named separately in the company and government materials; any later change to their apps or subscriptions would need a separate announcement.

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division discussed both services in its June 12, 2026 assessment of the proposed transaction. It said its investigation concluded the deal was not likely to harm competition in streaming video on demand, linear television, or theatrical film production and distribution. That was the DOJ’s pre-close assessment, not a prediction that consumer plans, prices, or content will remain unchanged.
What did WBD shareholders receive?
The SEC filing states that each eligible WBD share converted into a right to receive $31.01666668 in cash, subject to the merger agreement’s terms and exceptions. It also reports approximately $78 billion in aggregate merger consideration. The per-share payment and aggregate consideration are different measures and should not be treated as interchangeable.

What does the merger change for viewers?
The immediate confirmed change is corporate ownership: Skydance owns WBD, while the combined company brings the two organizations’ entertainment assets under one parent. The company says its portfolio includes two film studios, streaming services, television assets such as CBS and HBO, and news networks including CBS News and CNN. Those are company descriptions of the portfolio; they do not establish a specific future programming, app, or subscription change.
For viewers, the practical details to watch for are official notices from the services: whether subscriptions or billing change, whether a bundle is introduced, and whether shows or films move between catalogs. The closing materials do not set out those consumer terms or a timeline for changes.

What did regulators conclude?
On June 12, 2026, the DOJ Antitrust Division said it had completed its investigation and determined that the proposed deal was not likely to harm competition or American consumers. Its review covered streaming video on demand, linear television, and theatrical film production and distribution. This records the agency’s conclusion about the proposed transaction based on its investigation; it is not a guarantee of future market outcomes.
