Paper Rex is aggressive in a specific way: it tries to create coordinated pressure early, often with two duelists and chained utility, so opponents must solve a fight before they have comfortably established control. That does not mean every round is a blind rush. PRX’s defining test is whether it can change pace after a disciplined opponent prepares for the first contact.
What makes Paper Rex aggressive
Paper Rex’s recognizable identity is speed combined with initiative. The team frequently seeks an early contest for space, information or a numerical advantage instead of waiting for the attacking side to complete a safe setup. Its attacks can look chaotic because several threats appear at once, but the point is to compress the opponent’s decision time.

Head coach Alexandre “Alecks” Sallé described PRX as “slightly more fast-paced than other teams” because it tried to run two duelists when many opponents used fewer. He also said that this composition could make PRX explosive enough to bypass some defensive utility. In practical terms, a duelist can enter while another creates a second angle or follows immediately, forcing defenders to divide their crosshairs and utility.

Why two duelists change the timing
A two-duelist composition gives PRX more ways to threaten the first few seconds. One player may take the initial risk while the second can dash, satchel, flash, smoke or otherwise enter behind that contact. The benefit is not only extra aim power; it is the ability to turn a small opening into occupied space before defenders can reset.
The trade-off is reduced flexibility elsewhere. A second duelist can mean less control, less information utility or fewer defensive tools than a slower composition would have. If the opening is stalled, PRX must prove it can create value with the remaining utility and survive a less favorable mid-round.
How to compare aggressive teams without reducing them to “rushers”
“Aggressive” is useful only when it specifies what happens, when it happens and how the team converts it. The following axes separate PRX’s style from a generic high-risk label.
| Axis | Question to ask | What it reveals about PRX or a rival |
|---|---|---|
| Timing of contact | Does the team seek a fight immediately, or first gather information and control space? | PRX often contests early; a patient rival may delay contact until its utility and crossfires are ready. |
| Entry support | Are duelists paired with flashes, smokes, movement abilities or a second entry? | PRX’s explosive rounds depend on coordinated support, not on one player winning an isolated duel. |
| Risk and trades | When the first player fights, are teammates positioned to trade or convert the space? | A failed first fight is less damaging when the team can immediately trade or plant. |
| Defensive initiative | Does the team push for map control, or hold and punish the attack? | PRX may take territory before the opponent’s plan is clear; other teams may prefer information-rich holds. |
| Adaptation | What changes after the opponent prepares an anti-push? | The strongest comparison is not first contact alone but whether timing and pace change later. |
There is no source-backed statistic that ranks current VALORANT teams by aggression or trade rate. Any claim that PRX is objectively “the most aggressive” would therefore overstate the evidence. Use round examples and tactical choices instead of inventing a score.
Paper Rex vs. DRX: an adaptation battle
The clearest comparison in the available reporting is PRX’s 2023 Pacific matchup with DRX. PRX player Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee said DRX “always punishes aggressive plays.” He specifically described the first 30 seconds: DRX repeatedly used the same kinds of early-round responses to punish PRX’s pushes, even while the teams’ mid-round strategies differed.
That account does not describe DRX as simply passive. It describes a team prepared to recognize PRX’s preferred timing and place its defensive pieces where an early hit would meet resistance. A push can be punished by a crossfire, a delaying ability, a swing timed with a teammate or a rotation triggered by early information. The key is that DRX made PRX pay for predictable initiative.

DRX player stax added the other half of the story: PRX’s hyper-aggressive strategies had influenced DRX’s own approach. The matchup therefore shows reciprocal adaptation rather than a permanent aggressive-versus-defensive split. PRX pressured DRX into preparing specific anti-push structures, while DRX’s preparation forced PRX to consider whether its usual opening was still profitable.

- An early push has a tactical cost if the opponent can forecast its timing.
- Anti-aggression is not the same as passivity; a team can hold a disciplined setup and still take the first fight on its own terms.
- Mid-round variety matters. DRX’s first-30-second response did not erase the need for both teams to make different decisions afterward.
- When reviewing a series, ask whether PRX changed its starting positions, delayed the hit, used a fake or attacked a different lane after DRX’s pattern became clear.
Paper Rex vs. patient teams such as FPX
Alecks identified very slow opponents as especially difficult for PRX. He cited FPX as an example of a patient team that looked for mistakes rather than volunteering an early fight. Against that kind of opponent, PRX could not rely on its usual acceleration to guarantee contact or space.
Patience attacks the assumptions behind PRX’s explosiveness. If defenders avoid giving an early duel, preserve utility for the actual hit and keep their positions difficult to read, PRX may spend abilities without obtaining a clean entry. A delayed response can also make an aggressive team wonder whether it is walking into a trap, which slows the attacker’s own decision-making.
Alecks’ answer was not to abandon aggression permanently. He said PRX needed to slow down and find another answer, adjusting on the fly instead of continuing to run into the same setup. That can mean holding a lane longer, probing with one player, using utility to force a reveal, rotating after drawing a response or saving the explosive sequence for the moment the defense is stretched.
The FPX example is historical and does not establish how every later FPX roster plays. Its value is tactical: it demonstrates why a team built around pace must also possess a credible slower gear.

PRX’s visual style—fast entries, unusual fights and abrupt changes of direction—can make its rounds look improvised. Sentinels coach kaplan challenged that impression after a 2025 Masters Toronto playoff match. A Japanese-language report characterized his assessment as calling PRX “unconventional and rough” in reputation while praising its macro and strategy; the English wording should be treated as a translated attribution rather than an independently verified quotation.

The tactical point is more important than the label. Macro is visible in how a team sequences pressure across a map: which areas it contests, what information it is willing to give up, how it rotates after utility appears and how it chooses a late-round win condition. A team can take early fights and still have a coherent plan for the next 20 seconds.
PRX’s aggression is strategic when the first contact serves one of several purposes: taking a high-value area, denying an opponent’s preferred setup, forcing defensive utility, creating a tradeable duel or making the opponent reveal its response. It becomes low-quality aggression when the same timing and route are repeated after the opponent has demonstrated a reliable counter.
How PRX’s style differs from a slower control team
First contact
PRX tends to make the opening phase itself a battleground. A slower control team usually prioritizes information, utility conservation and safe map occupation before committing to a fight. Neither approach is automatically superior: PRX gains initiative if its entry is supported, while the slower team gains value if it can deny clean contact and preserve a numbers advantage.

Use of utility
PRX’s two-duelist idea can bypass some utility by moving through or over a defensive setup before it has time to be layered. A control-oriented team is more likely to use utility to shape where the fight occurs, then rely on a crossfire or retake plan. When comparing rounds, track whether utility is being used to enable movement or to postpone movement.
Defensive posture
On defense, an aggressive team may push out for early information or contest a choke before an attack is assembled. A patient team may hold a site, allow the attackers to reveal their utility and then punish the commitment. PRX’s defensive initiative is valuable when it creates uncertainty; it is vulnerable when the opponent has prepared a trade or a trap.
Recovery after a failed opening
The decisive difference often appears after PRX loses the first duel or finds no entry. A complete team can reset into a mid-round structure, preserve enough utility for a late hit and avoid turning one failed probe into a second unnecessary fight. A purely momentum-dependent team keeps forcing contact and gives the defender repeated opportunities.

A practical method for analyzing a PRX series
- Mark the first meaningful contact. Note the round time, location, players involved and whether PRX initiated it or answered an opponent.
- Identify the entry package. Record which duelist moved first, what flash, smoke, stun or movement ability supported the play and whether a second player arrived in trading distance.
- Measure the conversion, not just the kill. Ask whether the contact produced a site, a spike plant, a key rotation, forced utility or only a one-for-one exchange.
- Check the opponent’s preparation. Look for repeated early positions, utility held specifically for the push, coordinated swings or a deliberate refusal to fight.
- Compare later rounds. Did PRX delay the contact, change its route, show pressure and rotate, or repeat the same opening?
- Separate map context from team identity. Choke points, travel times, agent abilities and the scoreline can make one map appear more aggressive than another.
- Review the defensive half independently. Count initiative as pushes, information plays and contesting space—not merely kills in the first seconds.
This method avoids mistaking a highlight clip for a complete style. It also makes comparisons with DRX, FPX or Sentinels more precise because each team is judged by timing, support, conversion and adaptation.
What the available statistics can—and cannot—say
Riot Games’ Global Power Rankings page listed PRX first in its 2026 Stage 1 snapshot with 1,572 points and a 19–6 record (.760). G2 was second at 1,456 points, Nongshim RedForce third at 1,440 and NRG fourth at 1,431. These are stage-snapshot figures, not live standings on every date and not a measurement of aggression.
VCT Reference, accessed in 2026, listed PRX with 432 maps and a 110–52 series record, a 67.9% series win rate, with the last map on that page dated 2026-10-09. It also displayed 54.6% attack rounds and 52.3% defense rounds for its stated event context. Those figures describe accumulated results and round outcomes within that page’s scope; they do not reveal whether a team seeks first contact, how often it pushes or why a round was won.

Why aggression sometimes fails
Alecks’ 2025 reflection on a loss to DRX provides a useful corrective to the idea that pressure always wins. He said PRX should have used its ultimates better or played around them more effectively, and described difficulty breaking DRX’s Ascent defense. In that situation, the problem was not a lack of willingness to fight; it was failing to convert available resources against a defense that could absorb the first attempt.
Several failure modes recur when an aggressive plan is overused:
- Predictable timing: defenders can pre-aim, stack utility and swing together.
- Untradeable entry: the first player moves faster than the support, turning a planned duel into an isolated death.
- Utility mismatch: PRX spends its strongest tools before the defense has been displaced.
- No second plan: after the first route is denied, the team keeps forcing the same area.
- Scoreline pressure: a team chasing momentum may take a fight that the economy or round clock does not justify.
The remedy is not to become passive. It is to vary the start, preserve a conversion tool, create a second threat and decide in advance what information would trigger a rotate or delay.
Best Value
How opponents can counter PRX—and how PRX can answer
Disciplined anti-push setups
DRX’s reported first-30-second responses show the basic counter: prepare for the timing, place players to trade and punish the entry rather than offering isolated duels. The setup must remain flexible, because repeating the same anti-push can eventually become predictable itself.
Patience without surrendering the map
FPX’s example shows that waiting can deny PRX the fight it wants. However, passive waiting gives PRX time to probe another lane or build a numbers advantage. The best defense delays contact while still gathering information and contesting important space.
Forcing a slower mid-round
Opponents can use utility and positioning to make the explosive route expensive, then demand that PRX solve a slower post-contact problem. PRX’s answer is to retain enough utility and structure to make that second phase dangerous rather than treating it as a failure.

Because PRX studies early responses, a defense should not show the same hold every round. Alternate between a contest, a fall-back, a trap and a delayed retake so PRX cannot simply map one opening reaction to one automatic call.
Current context and limits of the comparison
Paper Rex’s official team page describes it as one of VCT’s longest-standing rosters and lists achievements for 2026, but the extracted page text does not provide a complete current roster list. That matters because agent pools, player roles and composition choices can change while the organization’s broad identity remains recognizable.
The DRX evidence is from a 2023 matchup, the FPX discussion comes from Alecks’ account of a past event, and the Sentinels assessment follows one 2025 playoff match. They are useful tactical examples, not universal descriptions of every later roster or series. Riot’s 2026 Stage 1 ranking and VCT Reference’s later accumulated-statistics page also measure different things and should not be merged into one current leaderboard.
Verdict: aggression is the tool, adaptation is the differentiator
Paper Rex stands out because it makes early, coordinated pressure central to its identity. Two-duelist compositions, fast entries and defensive initiative can bypass utility and force opponents to make difficult decisions before their preferred setup is complete. DRX demonstrates the value of disciplined anti-push preparation; FPX demonstrates how patience can deny PRX a simple fight; and kaplan’s assessment underscores that unusual-looking rounds can still be strategically organized.
The meaningful comparison is therefore not “PRX is aggressive, while another team is structured.” Aggression and structure are not opposites. The real question is whether PRX can vary timing and pace after opponents prepare for its first contact—and whether those opponents can keep their counters unpredictable enough to avoid being solved.
