Why timings differ between cities
Panchang timings are tied to location and local time. Sunrise and sunset in particular vary by city, and locally derived periods should not be carried over from one place to another. For comparison, the Ujjain listing gives sunrise at 6:19 a.m. and sunset at 6:13 p.m., rather than New Delhi’s 6:14 a.m. and 6:06 p.m. Use a listing calculated for your own location if you need local timings.
Rank #2
Ujjain and New Delhi listings agree on Krishna Shashthi and Mrigashira, but the displayed Shashthi endpoint differs slightly: Ujjain gives 10:16 a.m., compared with New Delhi’s 10:15 a.m. Ujjain gives Mrigashira’s endpoint as 2:55 a.m. on October 3. These are reported differences between listings; the available information does not establish why they differ or that the difference reflects separate regional traditions.
When comparing calendars, check the city and local timezone, the listed tithi and nakshatra endpoints, the sunrise/sunset basis, and any calculation convention the publisher discloses. Vedangam says its Ujjain calculations use Lahiri ayanamsa. Medini Jyotish describes Panchang’s five components as tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, and vara, and says its displayed values use sidereal positions with Lahiri ayanamsha in local time.
