The Panasonic DMR-4X1010 has a 10TB internal hard drive, but Panasonic identifies 6TB for normal recording. On that normal-recording allocation, Panasonic estimates about 390 hours of 4K broadcast-quality recording, about 762 hours of terrestrial HD, or about 540 hours of BS HD. Longer recording modes can hold substantially more, at the cost of image quality.
How many hours can the DMR-4X1010 record?
The answer depends on the broadcast type and recording mode. Panasonic’s estimates below apply to normal recording on the model, not its separate automatic whole-channel recording feature. The three DR rows include the stated broadcast bitrates; the remaining figures are Panasonic’s mode-specific estimates. Panasonic published the specification on its DMR-4X1010 specification page, accessed October 3, 2026.

Why 10TB does not mean one fixed recording-time figure
Panasonic’s September 14, 2026 announcement lists a 10TB internal HDD and separately specifies 6TB for normal recording. The capacity figures therefore refer to different things: 10TB is the drive’s headline total, while the published normal-recording estimates use the 6TB normal-recording pool. Do not read the table as a guarantee that every use of the full 10TB yields those same hours.
These specifications describe a Japanese-market recorder using the Japanese broadcast formats listed by Panasonic. They are manufacturer estimates, not independent test results, and actual usable recording time can vary with content and recording choices.

What the 4K and HD recording modes trade off
DR means broadcast-quality recording at the source broadcast rate: Panasonic lists 4KDR at 33 Mbps, terrestrial HD DR at 17 Mbps, and BS HD DR at 24 Mbps. The longer 4K and HD modes compress data to extend recording time. Panasonic’s Diga FAQ states: “録画モードにより、画質・記録時間が異なります。記録時間が長くなるほど画質は低下します。” In English: recording mode changes image quality and recording time, and image quality falls as recording time increases. See Panasonic’s Diga recording-mode FAQ.
So “4K” can mean 4KDR at broadcast quality or a longer compressed 4K mode. The longest listed 4K estimate is about 4,680 hours in adaptive 8–12x mode, but Panasonic says this mode adjusts according to program content. High-motion sports or music can be recorded at an 8x-equivalent rate, so the actual duration may be shorter than the displayed estimate.

Normal recording and automatic channel recording are different
The normal-recording table is expressed in hours. Panasonic also describes automatic recording of selected channels with recordings automatically erased over time; that feature uses separate retention estimates expressed in days. The series announcement advertises up to 10 channels for about 28 days in applicable configurations. For the DMR-4X1010, Panasonic also describes an additional-channel option of one 4K satellite channel or two HD channels for about 13 days. These day-based figures concern automatic channel-recording configurations, not extra normal-recording hours to add to the table.
Ways to ease internal-drive capacity pressure
Panasonic says the series supports transferring recordings from the internal HDD to Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive, and describes Blu-ray discs and USB HDDs as storage alternatives. The cited product information does not establish current cloud prices, quotas, or service availability, so check those details for your location and account before relying on a cloud transfer as additional capacity.
