Panasonic’s DMR-4X1010 pairs a 10TB hard drive and 4K broadcast recording with Ultra HD Blu-ray playback. It is a Japan-market recorder, however: Panasonic’s announcement schedules it for release from late October 2026, and the company’s published material does not establish U.S. availability, price, warranty, or compatibility with U.S. broadcasts. The “America wishes it had” framing captures the appeal, not confirmed U.S. access.
What the DMR-4X1010 actually does
The DMR-4X1010 is an all-automatic DIGA recorder designed for Japanese television broadcasts. It records programs to an internal hard drive or supported BD-R and BD-RE media, and it plays Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. Panasonic’s product overview and detailed specifications describe those as separate capabilities: recording broadcast programs is not the same as recording or authoring UHD movie discs.

How much it can record
10TB internal storage
Panasonic specifies a 10TB internal HDD. Its overview says automatic recording can cover up to eight HD channels for about 28 days. Another stated configuration is either one 4K channel for about 13 days or two HD channels for about 13 days. These are Panasonic’s estimates for the named configurations, not independent test results; actual recording time depends on the selected mode and content.

4K recording modes and discs
The specification lists 4K broadcast recording modes and estimates about 390 hours in 4KDR mode. Compression modes offer different recording times. For optical recording, Panasonic lists BD-RE media up to 100GB and BD-R media up to 128GB, subject to the supported formats and versions in its specification. Those capacities do not mean the recorder writes UHD movie discs.

When it is due to arrive
Panasonic dated its announcement of the new All-Automatic DIGA models September 14, 2026, and said the DMR-4X1010 and other models were scheduled for release from late October 2026. As of October 3, 2026, that release date was still in the future; the announcement is a schedule, not confirmation that sales have begun.
Why U.S. compatibility is an open question
The specification lists NTSC video signal format and Japanese terrestrial, BS/CS, and BS/CS 4K tuner inputs. Those details describe the product’s Japanese broadcast context. They do not establish that it can tune U.S. television services or record U.S. broadcasts. Panasonic’s published pages reviewed here also do not establish a U.S. launch, U.S. street price, U.S. warranty, or U.S. support arrangements. A dollar conversion or an assumption of plug-and-play use would therefore be misleading.

Anyone considering an import should verify broadcast-system compatibility, tuner support, and regional service and warranty terms with the seller and Panasonic before buying. The manufacturer’s purchase page is Japan-market context, not evidence of U.S. distribution.
Cloud recording: named services, unspecified terms
Panasonic describes cloud recording as a new feature and names Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive as storage options in its announcement. The consulted announcement does not specify service pricing, free storage, account requirements, regional availability, or how long recordings remain available. Those terms should be confirmed for the relevant country and service before treating cloud recording as a practical substitute for local storage.

What to compare it with
A standalone Ultra HD Blu-ray player only addresses disc playback; it is not automatically a substitute for a broadcast recorder. When comparing recorders or deciding whether the DIGA’s feature set matters to you, check:
- Broadcast-system compatibility and supported tuner inputs.
- How many channels can be tuned or recorded at once.
- Internal storage capacity and the maker’s recording-time estimates.
- Whether broadcast programs can be recorded to supported optical media.
- Ultra HD Blu-ray playback, cloud-service terms, price, warranty, and local support.
Panasonic’s 4K tuner model comparison can help place the recorder alongside other Japan-market DIGA models; it does not establish U.S. alternatives or pricing.
