Palworld 1.0 Best Pals Tier List for Combat, Work and Mounts

There is no single best Pal in Palworld 1.0. The right choice depends on whether you need a fighter, a base specialist or a travel mount. Jetragon is the strongest evidence-backed all-round recommendation for endgame combat and flying, while Venusa and Oserk illustrate why base workers should be chosen by job rather than fame: Venusa is documented with Gathering 6, Handiwork 6, Medicine Production 5 and Transporting 2, while Oserk has Electricity 8, Handiwork 3 and Transporting 4.

This tier list uses the Palworld 1.0 balance context launched on July 10, 2026. It separates combat, work and mounts, because those activities reward different traits. A combat Pal can be a poor base worker, and the fastest flying mount is not automatically the best choice for a short ground route or an early save.

What changed in Palworld 1.0

Pre-1.0 lists are not automatically current. Pocketpair’s official release notes describe a broad rebalance: “Palworld 1.0 also adds new ways to strengthen your Pals through Awakening and Mutation, rebalanced stats and abilities for all Pals, and large-scale overhauls across many aspects of the game, including base building, multiplayer, and graphics.”

The same notes say Work Suitability now reaches level 10, every Pal’s work values was rebalanced, and ranking up a Pal can raise a work-suitability level. That changes both the ceiling and the cost of a top worker. A list made before 1.0 may still help you recognize species, but its damage assumptions, work rankings and progression advice need to be checked against the current version.

This article treats “Palworld 1.0” as the launch-era ruleset and calls out the later 1.0.3 and 1.0.5 context where the available published guides do so. Recheck the in-game Pal entry and saddle requirements after future patches; balance changes can move a Pal between tiers without changing its name.

How to read these tier lists

S means exceptional performance for the stated activity, not simply rarity or difficulty of capture. A means a strong option with a meaningful advantage in a narrower situation. B means useful when availability, element, terrain or training cost makes the higher-ranked choice impractical. The lists do not combine combat, work and travel into one score.

Combat criteria

  • Damage: sustained attacks, burst windows and the way a Pal’s skills interact with its element.
  • Survivability: health, defensive behavior and how reliably the Pal remains active during a fight.
  • Partner Skill: the value of the player-facing ability, not just the Pal’s attack numbers.
  • Matchup: element advantage, boss mechanics and whether the Pal is intended for general use, raids or a specialist encounter.
  • Availability and investment: capture access, saddle or breeding requirements, Awakening, Mutation and ranking-up cost.

Work criteria

  • Suitability level: the displayed level for the exact job. In 1.0, the scale reaches 10.
  • Throughput: how quickly the Pal performs the task when it is not interrupted.
  • Specialization: whether it is outstanding at one job or merely competent at several.
  • Downtime: travel, eating, resting and switching tasks can reduce practical output.
  • Training cost: ranking up may improve suitability, but the materials and time are part of the decision.

Mount criteria

  • Travel speed and stamina: peak sprint speed matters only if the mount can sustain it over your route.
  • Handling: turning, braking and control around cliffs, caves and base structures.
  • Access timing: saddle unlock level and the point at which you can realistically obtain the Pal.
  • Terrain: flying and ground travel solve different navigation problems.
  • Combat utility: a mount that contributes meaningful Partner Skill value can save a party slot.

Combat tier list: Palworld 1.0

The most defensible general-purpose combat recommendation in current 1.0 coverage is Jetragon. That does not make it the mandatory winner of every raid, element matchup or player-versus-player encounter. A specialist with the right element or Partner Skill can be better for a particular boss, and an accessible Pal that you have already ranked up can outperform an untrained endgame capture.

Palworld 1.0 combat tier list
Tier Pal or pick type Role Damage and skill profile Survivability and matchup Availability and investment Best use
S Jetragon General-purpose endgame fighter Named by the current combat guide as a default top combat Pal; exact 1.0 damage figures are not stated. Strong reference pick, but element-specific counters can be preferable. High-end access; its saddle unlock moved to level 70 in version 1.0.3. General exploration, bosses and a combat-ready flying build.
A Element specialists Raid or boss counter Choose the Pal whose element and Partner Skill answer the encounter; a universal ranking is not established. Matchup-dependent; may be superior to a generalist against the correct target. Availability and training vary by species; exact values are not stated. Bosses, raids and encounters where type advantage matters more than flexibility.
A Ranked-up generalists Reliable party damage Awakening, Mutation and ranking can change practical performance beyond a base-stat comparison. Investment can improve consistency, but the cost must be weighed against replacement. Requires resources and time; the 1.0 system makes this a deliberate progression choice. Players who already own a strong Pal and do not yet have endgame access.
B Accessible early or midgame fighters Progression combat Use the best element and Partner Skill available rather than chasing an endgame name. Useful while your roster and equipment are developing. Lower access barrier; exact species-by-species values are not stated in the current published comparisons. Story progression, resource runs and replacing defeated Pals quickly.

Why Jetragon is the default combat pick

Jetragon combines a high-end combat reputation with mount utility, so it can occupy two roles in an exploration party. Current 1.0 coverage calls it a default top combat Pal, and the same Pal is described as a leading flying mount. That combination is valuable when party slots, breeding time or upgrade materials are limited.

Its recommendation is conditional. The saddle requirement moved to level 70 in version 1.0.3, so a player below that threshold cannot use the mount simply because the Pal has been captured. A boss with a demanding element matchup may also reward a specialist more than Jetragon. Treat Jetragon as the general-purpose benchmark, then compare your target’s element, attack pattern and Partner Skill before spending rare upgrade materials.

When an element specialist beats the S-tier generalist

Use a specialist when the activity has a known elemental weakness, a short damage window or mechanics that punish a slow or broad-purpose build. The practical test is not “Is this Pal rarer?” but “Does its element and Partner Skill improve this encounter enough to justify another capture and training cycle?”

For raids and bosses, build the party around the encounter rather than filling every slot with the same high-rarity species. For ordinary exploration, a durable generalist is usually easier to keep alive, heal and replace than a fragile specialist that only shines in one matchup. The available formula-based 1.0.5 ranking from PalToolkit is useful as a cross-check, but a computed list still cannot know your target’s element, access level or investment.

Investment changes the order

1.0 adds Awakening and Mutation as additional ways to strengthen Pals. Ranking up can also raise performance, and the official notes specifically connect ranking with higher Work Suitability levels. For combat, compare the finished build you can actually fund with the theoretical maximum of a newly captured Pal. A moderately invested partner with a compatible element can be the sensible choice until you have the materials for an endgame replacement.

Base-work tier list: Palworld 1.0

Base work should be assigned by job. The 1.0 suitability scale reaches level 10, but a high number in one category does not make a Pal the best choice for every station. Throughput also depends on whether the Pal is pulled away to eat, sleep, transport or perform another task.

Palworld 1.0 base-work tier list
Tier Pal Documented suitability Specialization or flexibility Access and training note Best assignment
S for electricity Oserk Electricity 8; Handiwork 3; Transporting 4. Strong electricity specialist with useful secondary coverage. 1.0 values documented by PC Gamer; ranking-up requirements are not stated. Keep on power generation first, then use secondary jobs only when electricity demand is satisfied.
S for gathering and handiwork Venusa Gathering 6; Handiwork 6; Medicine Production 5; Transporting 2. Broad production coverage rather than a single-job extreme. 1.0 values documented by PC Gamer; exact access and ranking cost are not stated. Assign to gathering or handiwork according to the current bottleneck, with medicine production as a secondary option.
A Job specialists not named in the available comparisons Use the highest displayed level for the station you need; values differ by Pal and were rebalanced in 1.0. Potentially higher throughput than a flexible worker. Check current in-game values and the cost of ranking up. Dedicated kindling, planting, medicine, water, cooling, mining, logging or transporting.
B Flexible multi-role workers Several moderate suitability levels. Reduce the number of Pals needed at a small base, but may lose output to specialists. Often cheaper to deploy early; downtime can rise when the Pal changes jobs. Small bases, temporary camps and players prioritizing convenience.

Venusa: the flexible production pick

Venusa’s documented 1.0 profile is Gathering 6, Handiwork 6, Medicine Production 5 and Transporting 2. The two level-6 jobs make it a practical choice for a base that alternates between collecting materials and crafting. Medicine Production 5 gives it a third useful assignment when your production queue changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Transporting 2 is the trade-off. If your base spends most of its time moving items, Venusa should not be assigned there merely because it has several respectable skills. Put it on the station that is delaying your next meaningful task, and move it only when that bottleneck changes.

Oserk: the electricity specialist

Oserk is documented with Electricity 8, Handiwork 3 and Transporting 4. Electricity 8 makes it the clear choice of the named examples for power generation. Its Handiwork and Transporting levels are useful backups, but assigning it away from electricity can create a larger loss than the secondary job gains.

At a mature base, reserve Oserk for electricity and use another Pal for hauling or crafting. At a compact or early base, its secondary values can justify temporary reassignment when power demand is low. Watch the base rather than assuming the highest displayed number always produces the most items: interruptions and travel reduce practical throughput.

How to rank workers for every station

  1. Open the Pal’s work-suitability information and note the level for the exact job, not its overall reputation.
  2. Identify the station that is delaying your current queue: kindling, planting, handiwork, medicine production, electricity, water, gathering, cooling, mining, logging or transporting.
  3. Choose the highest suitable level that can remain on task. A lower-level specialist may outperform a higher-level flexible Pal if the latter keeps wandering to another job.
  4. Check whether ranking up can raise the suitability level. Include the required materials and the opportunity cost of using them on a Pal you may replace.
  5. Observe the base for a full production cycle. If the Pal is frequently eating, resting, transporting or switching stations, move it to a more focused assignment.

Specialist versus flexible worker

A specialist is best when one resource or machine controls your entire output. A flexible worker is better when your base is small, stations are spread out or you would otherwise need several partially trained Pals. The 1.0 level-10 ceiling makes the difference more visible: a highly ranked specialist can justify a permanent station, while a multi-role worker can save roster space.

Mount tier list: flying and ground travel

Mounts need two separate rankings. A flying Pal can cross cliffs and water but may waste stamina on short trips; a ground mount can be easier to control in tight terrain. Compare sprint speed, stamina, turning, unlock timing, route type and combat utility instead of choosing solely by a peak-speed claim.

Palworld 1.0 flying-mount tier list
Tier Mount Speed and stamina Handling and terrain Unlock timing Combat or utility value
S Jetragon Described in current 1.0 coverage as a leading flying mount; exact sprint and stamina figures are not stated. Best suited to long-distance aerial travel; handling preference remains route-dependent. Saddle unlock moved to level 70 in version 1.0.3. Also a strong combat reference, allowing one Pal to cover travel and fighting.
A Other flying mounts Compare sustained stamina, not only maximum sprint. May be easier to obtain or control for a particular route. Often available before level 70; exact unlocks are not stated here. Choose when early access, maneuverability or a different Partner Skill matters more than peak performance.
Palworld 1.0 ground-mount decision categories
Category Use it when What to compare Evidence status
Endgame ground mount Your route is mostly roads, valleys or enclosed areas where flying adds little. Sprint speed, stamina recovery, turning and collision behavior. PalToolkit separates ground mounts, but named rankings and figures are not stated in the available material.
Early-access ground mount You need mobility before a high-level flying saddle is available. Capture availability, saddle level and resource cost. Exact species and unlock values are not stated.
Utility or combat mount You want the Partner Skill to help gather or fight while mounted. Skill effect, target compatibility and stamina during combat. Compare the in-game description for the Pal you own.

Is Jetragon still the best mount after 1.0?

For flying, Jetragon remains a leading 1.0 recommendation in current coverage. “Best” still depends on access: the saddle requirement at level 70 in version 1.0.3 places it firmly in late progression. A lower-level flying mount can be the better practical choice for dozens of hours if it is available earlier, costs fewer resources or handles your normal routes more comfortably.

Use Jetragon when you need long-distance aerial travel and can meet the saddle requirement. Use a ground mount when your base network is connected by compact terrain, when stamina management makes repeated short flights inefficient, or when a different Partner Skill contributes more to the activity. PalToolkit’s separate flying and ground categories reflect this decision better than a single speed ladder.

Should combat and work use different Pals?

Usually, yes. Combat rewards damage, survivability, matchup and Partner Skill. Work rewards suitability, uninterrupted station time and low downtime. Training one Pal to do both can be convenient, but taking a worker into combat removes it from production and exposes a valuable base investment to risk.

Use a shared Pal when

  • You are early in progression and cannot maintain separate rosters.
  • The Pal has useful combat performance and several moderate work levels.
  • You are leaving the base for a short trip and can tolerate the temporary production loss.

Separate the roles when

  • Your base has a high-value specialist such as Oserk on electricity.
  • A combat Pal requires repeated healing, breeding, Awakening or Mutation investment.
  • You run long expeditions and need the base to keep producing without interruptions.
  • The Pal’s best work suitability does not match its combat element or Partner Skill.

A practical 1.0 progression plan

  1. Start with availability. Build a functional party and base using Pals you can capture and saddle now, not a theoretical endgame roster.
  2. Assign by bottleneck. Put Venusa on Gathering or Handiwork when either queue is blocking progress; reserve Oserk for Electricity when power is limiting production.
  3. Track the level-10 system. Compare displayed suitability levels and consider ranking up only after confirming the Pal will remain useful.
  4. Build a matchup party. Keep a generalist such as Jetragon as a benchmark, then add element specialists for bosses that justify the extra investment.
  5. Upgrade intentionally. Awakening and Mutation can change a Pal’s value, so do not discard a good partner solely because its unmodified ranking is lower.
  6. Unlock travel in stages. Use an accessible ground or flying mount until the level-70 Jetragon saddle is realistic, then decide whether its speed and combat utility justify replacing your current mount.

Quick recommendations

  • Best general combat reference: Jetragon, with element specialists reserved for favorable boss or raid matchups.
  • Best named electricity worker: Oserk at Electricity 8.
  • Best named flexible production worker: Venusa at Gathering 6 and Handiwork 6, with Medicine Production 5.
  • Best flying-mount recommendation: Jetragon for late-game players who can meet the level-70 saddle requirement.
  • Best early choice: the strongest Pal and mount you can access now, with suitability, stamina and downtime checked in your own base and route.

Keeping the list current

Check the patch number whenever you revisit a tier list. Pocketpair’s 1.0 notes changed combat abilities, work values and the maximum suitability scale; later balance updates can change a Pal’s position without changing the activity criteria. The 1.0.5 formula-based ranking published by PalToolkit is useful for spotting broad shifts, while a current in-game check remains necessary for saddle access, work assignment behavior and the cost of ranking up.
