AP reported on October 9 that Sharif said more than 10 million low-income people had received assistance. That is the latest reported direct-recipient figure in the cited accounts; AP’s October 6 report had carried a figure of more than 9 million. These dated snapshots do not establish the exact day-to-day increase, and the reviewed sources do not provide an independent audit of the claimed recipient count.

This is AP’s comparison at publication, not a current price index. AP also reported that Jamaat-e-Islami had threatened a march on Islamabad demanding cuts to gasoline and diesel taxes before the subsidies were announced. That is part of the political context, but the reporting does not establish it as the policy’s sole cause.

What funding figures have officials reported?
Radio Pakistan reported on September 14 that the petroleum minister said Rs25 billion per month would be provided for the scheme. AP reported on October 9 that Sharif had allocated Rs75 billion for fuel discounts. These are attributed statements with different descriptions—a monthly provision and an allocation—and the cited accounts do not establish their accounting period or how much was disbursed. AP’s October 9 report also said the IMF had reached a staff-level agreement with Pakistan covering reviews of its bailout program and a resilience and sustainability facility, subject to executive-board approval.
