Overwatch Coins buy general Shop items and the Premium Battle Pass; Overwatch Credits buy only eligible Hero Gallery cosmetics; Mythic Prisms unlock Mythic hero skins and their customization levels. They are separate spending routes, not exchangeable balances: Coins and Credits cannot be redeemed for Mythic Prisms.

How to choose the right currency
For a Shop item or Premium Battle Pass
Check the item’s displayed currency in the Shop. Coins are the broad Shop currency and can also be used to purchase the Premium Battle Pass. A Coins balance is not a universal way to pay for every cosmetic or Mythic upgrade.

For a Hero Gallery cosmetic
Credits work only when the specific Hero Gallery item is eligible. Blizzard explicitly notes that the content collectable with Credits varies, so do not assume that every item shown in the Gallery can be bought with them.
For a Mythic skin or customization
Use Mythic Prisms in the Mythic Shop. Blizzard’s Mythic Shop FAQ answers the question of whether Coins or Credits can buy Mythic skins or upgrades with “No”: only Mythic Prisms unlock Mythic skins and customizations, and Coins and Credits cannot be redeemed for Prisms. See the Blizzard Mythic Shop FAQ.

Seasonal rewards are examples, not permanent rates
Blizzard’s 2025 Season 17 announcement listed up to 600 Overwatch Coins and 1,500 Overwatch Credits among free rewards; its Premium Battle Pass announcement listed 500 Credits and up to 80 Mythic Prisms. Those quantities describe that season, not a guaranteed reward for later seasons. Blizzard’s 2026 Season 5 announcement surfaced up to 80 Mythic Prisms, while its Season 5 Starter Pack example listed 1,000 Overwatch Coins. A 2026 Season 4 Ultimate Battle Pass bundle example listed 2,000 Overwatch Coins. These are season-specific examples; check the live season’s terms rather than treating any amount as a standing entitlement.
