Sony WF-1000XM6 is the strongest all-round choice in 2026 so far, combining class-leading noise reduction, clear calls, LDAC and LC3 codec support, and more than eight hours of measured ANC playback. The right alternative depends heavily on your phone: Samsung owners gain features from Galaxy Buds4 Pro, iPhone owners get the most value from AirPods Pro 3, and runners who need a secure hook should choose Beats Powerbeats Pro 2.

This guide brings together current evaluations from RTINGS, TechRadar, SoundGuys, Tom’s Guide and WIRED, including long-duration testing and published battery and noise-isolation measurements. Prices are not listed because they vary by country, retailer and promotion.

Sony WF-1000XM6: the best all-rounder

RTINGS’ October 7, 2026 update ranks the WF-1000XM6 as the best wireless earbuds overall after its broader testing program covered more than 925 headphone and earbud pairs. The appeal is unusually balanced: very strong isolation, reliable voice calls and more than eight hours of ANC playback in its test. SoundGuys measured 88% average noise reduction, making these particularly suitable for aircraft cabins, trains and busy offices.

Support for both LDAC and LC3 gives compatible Android devices higher-quality or newer-generation Bluetooth options. The main reason to look elsewhere is not a documented weakness in these tests, but a different priority such as Samsung-only software features, an earhook for sport or replaceable batteries.

#1 Best Overall
JBL Vibe Beam - True Wireless Earbuds - Black | JBL Deep Bass Sound, Comfortable fit, Up to 32 8h 24h total hours of battery life with speed charging
  • JBL Deep Bass Sound: Get the most from your mixes with high-quality audio from secure, reliable earbuds with 8mm drivers featuring JBL Deep Bass Sound
  • Comfortable fit: The ergonomic, stick-closed design of the JBL Vibe Beam fits so comfortably you may forget you're wearing them. The closed design excludes external sounds, enhancing the bass performance
  • Up to 32 (8h + 24h) hours of battery life and speed charging: With 8 hours of battery life in the earbuds and 24 in the case, the JBL Vibe Beam provide all-day audio. When you need more power, you can speed charge an extra two hours in just 10 minutes.
  • Hands-free calls with VoiceAware: When you're making hands-free stereo calls on the go, VoiceAware lets you balance how much of your own voice you hear while talking with others
  • Water and dust resistant: From the beach to the bike trail, the IP54-certified earbuds and IPX2 charging case are water and dust resistant for all-day experiences

Technics EAH-AZ100: the sound-and-comfort choice

TechRadar’s current overall pick follows more than 600 hours of testing. It describes the EAH-AZ100 as comfortable, balanced-sounding and unusually feature-rich, with triple-point Bluetooth for keeping three devices connected. That makes it a practical choice for someone moving between a phone, laptop and tablet.

Its stated endurance is up to 12 hours per charge for the earbuds and 29 hours including the case. “Up to” is a manufacturer-rated maximum rather than a universal runtime: volume, codec, ANC and connection count will change the result. TechRadar’s qualification is that competing earbuds can deliver stronger ANC, so choose this model for its overall listening experience rather than absolute silence.

Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro: mid-range ANC value

RTINGS places the Liberty 5 Pro at the top of its mid-range category. Its testing found that the buds block almost as much low-frequency rumble and mid-range speech as Sony’s premium model, while continuous battery life was roughly seven hours. The tuning is bassier, which suits electronic, hip-hop and action-heavy soundtracks but may require EQ adjustment for a flatter presentation.

Apple AirPods Pro 3 Wireless Earbuds with Active Noise Cancellation | Live Translation, Heart Rate Sensing, Hearing Aid Feature, Bluetooth Headphones, Spatial Audio, USB-C Charging
  • WORLD’S BEST IN-EAR ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Removes up to 2x more unwanted noise than AirPods Pro 2* so you can stay fully immersed in the moment.*
  • BREAKTHROUGH AUDIO PERFORMANCE — Experience breathtaking, three-dimensional audio with AirPods Pro 3. A new acoustic architecture delivers transformed bass, detailed clarity so you can hear every instrument, and stunningly vivid vocals.
  • HEART RATE SENSING — Built-in heart rate sensing lets you track your heart rate and calories burned for up to 50 different workout types.* With iPhone, you will have access to the Move ring, step count, and the new Workout Buddy,* powered by Apple Intelligence.*
  • LIVE TRANSLATION — Communicate across language barriers using Live Translation,* enabled by Apple Intelligence.*
  • EXTENDED BATTERY LIFE — Get up to 8 hours of listening time with Active Noise Cancellation on a single charge. Or up to 10 hours in Transparency using the Hearing Aid feature.*

They are the logical compromise when flagship-level isolation matters but the premium tier is outside your budget. RTINGS’ comparison concerns noise blocking and battery, not an identical feature set, so check whether your phone supports the codecs and controls you care about.

Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro: best inside Samsung’s ecosystem

SoundGuys reports improved ANC, 84% average noise reduction, IP57 water resistance and deep One UI integration. Head gestures add hands-free control, and Samsung’s software can expose functions that are unavailable on other Android phones.

The important limitation is platform dependence: exclusive features require a recent Samsung phone. Owners of other Android devices may still get basic Bluetooth playback, but they should not buy these expecting the complete One UI experience. IP57 helps against dust and water exposure; it is not a license to swim with the earbuds.

  • Long Playtime, Fast Charging: Get 10 hours of battery life on a single charge with a case that extends it to 30 hours. If P20i true wireless earbuds are low on power, a quick 10-minute charge will give you 2 hours of playtime.
  • Portable On-the-Go Design: soundcore P20i true wireless earbuds and the charging case are compact and lightweight with a lanyard attached. It's small enough to slip in your pocket, or clip on your bag or keys–so you never worry about space.

Beats Powerbeats Pro 2: the secure workout option

Powerbeats Pro 2 uses earhooks to keep each bud anchored during runs, gym sessions and interval training. Tom’s Guide reports ANC, heart-rate monitoring and 10-hour earbud battery life. Fitness expert Nick, quoted by the guide, calls them “outstanding sports headphones” and says they would be his top choice for people who need an earhook.

The hook is the deciding feature, not a minor design detail. It adds stability that conventional in-ear buds cannot guarantee for every ear, although it also makes the buds bulkier and less discreet. Treat the water-resistance rating and cleaning instructions as workout requirements to verify for your own environment; the cited testing does not establish a swim rating.

Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5: the repairability-minded Android pick

SoundGuys measured 6 hours 17 minutes with ANC and highlights a rare ownership advantage: the batteries in both earbuds and the charging case are replaceable. Replacement cells are proprietary, and installing them requires a small screwdriver, so this is not a tool-free battery swap or a guarantee of professional repair availability in every country.

Rank #4
Apple AirPods 4 Wireless Earbuds with Active Noise Cancellation | Bluetooth Headphones, Transparency Mode, Personalized Spatial Audio, USB-C Charging Case, Wireless Charging, H2 Chip
  • REBUILT FOR COMFORT — AirPods 4 have been redesigned for exceptional all-day comfort and greater stability. With a refined contour, shorter stem, and quick-press controls for music or calls.
  • ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation help reduce outside noise before it reaches your ears, so you can immerse yourself in what you’re listening to.*
  • HEAR THE WORLD AROUND YOU — The powerful H2 chip comes to AirPods 4. Adaptive Audio seamlessly blends ANC and Transparency mode — which lets you comfortably hear and interact with the world around you exactly as it sounds — to provide the best listening experience in any environment.* And when you’re speaking with someone nearby, Conversation Awareness automatically lowers the volume of what’s playing.*
  • IMPROVED SOUND AND CALL QUALITY — Voice Isolation improves the quality of calls in loud conditions. Using advanced computational audio, it reduces background noise while isolating and clarifying the sound of your voice for whomever you’re speaking to.*
  • MAGICAL EXPERIENCE — Just say “Siri” or “Hey Siri” to play a song, make a call, or check your schedule.* And with Siri Interactions, now you can respond to Siri by simply nodding your head yes or shaking your head no.* Pair AirPods 4 by simply placing them near your device and tapping Connect on your screen.* Easily share a song or show between two sets of AirPods.* An optical in-ear sensor knows to play audio only when you’re wearing AirPods and pauses when you take them off. And you can track down your AirPods and Charging Case with the Find My app.*

That design can extend useful life for owners willing to perform careful maintenance. Choose a conventional sealed model instead if you prefer the simplest possible service process or do not want to source parts.

Apple AirPods Pro 3: best for iPhone

WIRED’s team, which says it has tested hundreds of earbuds, names AirPods Pro 3 its best choice for iPhone users. The recommendation reflects platform value: Apple devices generally expose the fullest pairing, switching and device-integration experience with Apple’s own earbuds. The cited evaluation does not provide a comparable battery or noise-reduction figure for this roundup, so the reason to choose them is ecosystem fit rather than a claimed numerical win.

Google Pixel Buds 2a and Pixel Buds Pro 2: Android platform picks

WIRED names Pixel Buds 2a best for most people and Pixel Buds Pro 2 best for Android. Those are editorial category awards, not a claim that either model beats every rival on ANC, sound or endurance. They are useful defaults when you use Google’s Android services and want platform features without choosing Samsung hardware.

How to choose between the finalists

Start with your phone

  • Recent Samsung Galaxy phone: Galaxy Buds4 Pro unlocks the deepest One UI integration and head gestures.
  • Other Android phones: Sony, Technics, Anker, Sennheiser and Google’s Pixel options avoid Samsung-only dependencies; select by your priority below.

Choose your primary job

  • Maximum measured noise reduction: Sony WF-1000XM6.
  • Balanced sound and long rated endurance: Technics EAH-AZ100.
  • Lower-cost ANC: Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro.
  • Running security: Beats Powerbeats Pro 2.
  • Replaceable batteries: Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5.

Check the details that reviews often blur

ANC percentages are averages from a particular test method, not a promise that every noise will be reduced by the same amount. Low engine rumble is easier to suppress than irregular voices, clatter or wind. Battery figures also vary with volume, codec, ANC and call use; treat the stated conditions as test results, not guarantees for every commute.

Codec support matters only when both the phone and earbuds support the codec and the connection remains stable. LDAC and LC3 on Sony are meaningful advantages for compatible Android hardware, while ecosystem controls can matter more than codec specifications for iPhone and Samsung owners. Comfort and seal remain personal: a technically superior ANC system cannot compensate for tips that do not fit your ears.

What the 2026 testing tells us

The rankings draw on different methods. RTINGS’ October 2026 update is based on a catalog of more than 925 tested headphone and earbud pairs. TechRadar reports more than 600 hours with its current picks. SoundGuys supplies the directly comparable noise-reduction percentages and the Sennheiser battery result, while Tom’s Guide focuses on workout stability and WIRED uses platform-oriented category recommendations after testing hundreds of earbuds.

Because the outlets measure different things, no single score settles every buying decision. Sony leads the published isolation and ANC-runtime evidence; Technics leads the stated per-charge endurance and connectivity flexibility; Samsung’s value is concentrated in its phone integration; and Beats solves a physical-fit problem that ordinary stem or in-ear designs cannot.

Before you buy

  1. Confirm your phone model and which ecosystem features it supports.
  2. Decide whether you need conventional in-ear stability or an earhook for exercise.
  3. Compare the stated battery metric with your use: ANC runtime, maximum rated runtime and case-inclusive runtime are different measurements.
  4. Check water-resistance limits for your workouts; an IP rating does not automatically mean the earbuds are suitable for swimming.
  5. If longevity is your priority, weigh Sennheiser’s replaceable-cell design against the extra tools and proprietary parts it requires.
  6. Verify the current local price, warranty and stock before ordering, since none of those commercial details are fixed by these tests.
