Its 2024 feature story centered on News Concierge, an AI chatbot that could assemble answers from multiple news items. But the service’s current status is unsettled: the Otherweb domain now says it was acquired by SAI Technologies, and available evidence does not confirm whether the legacy app still works or is supported.
What was the Otherweb AI News App?
Otherweb described itself as a “junk-free information platform” that gathered news, opinion columns, podcasts, research studies, and other material. It said it used natural-language processing to filter content and let readers customize their feeds. The service was available on the web and through apps, according to the company’s 2024 announcement. Otherweb’s April 18, 2024 announcement described it as a way to find and organize information without relying on an unfiltered, endlessly scrolling feed.

Historical details from its Product Hunt listing included concise article summaries, category or quality filters, a customizable feed, and an article “nutrition label” intended to describe characteristics of a story. Those are descriptions of the earlier product, not confirmation that those tools remain available.
How did News Concierge work?
Otherweb announced News Concierge on April 18, 2024. The company described it as a chatbot that answered questions by combining information from multiple news items, rather than simply returning a list of links. Users could specify a topic and time period, and request that particular details be included or left out. The announcement also said it remembered recent queries and adapted to user preferences; these were company-reported capabilities, not independently verified performance findings. Otherweb founder and CEO Alex Fink framed the product as an alternative to spending hours scrolling through feeds. In the April 18, 2024 announcement, he said, “I believe we have reached ‘peak feed.’ Users are tired of scrolling for hours to try and find what they want. Our personal agent can do the legwork and just give you a summary of what you want to know.” That captures the intended benefit; it does not establish that summaries were complete or error-free.
What figures did Otherweb report?
In its April 18, 2024 announcement, Otherweb made the following claims about the service. These are dated company figures, not independently audited metrics or current guarantees.
| Claim | Qualification |
|---|---|
| 9 million users worldwide | Otherweb’s company claim in 2024; not a current audience estimate. |
| Access to over 900 real-time news sources | Otherweb’s company-reported figure in 2024; the current source count is unverified. |
| Local news in more than 50 countries | Otherweb’s company-reported coverage in 2024; current availability by country is unverified. |
| 20 AI models | Otherweb said in 2024 that the models filtered news and that source code and datasets were open for public audit. This does not independently establish the models’ accuracy or quality. |
Is Otherweb still available?
Current continuity has not been established. The current Otherweb domain is titled “otherweb.com – Acquired by SAI Technologies,” but its retrieved page did not provide readable details about the acquisition or the service. A third-party directory reproduces transition messaging and refers to a forthcoming service, but it does not independently document deal terms or confirm a launch date. Product Hunt’s historical listing and app-store references show that the app existed; they do not prove that it can still be downloaded, used, or supported.

Who might have found it useful?
Otherweb’s design was aimed at readers who wanted a more controlled way to follow news: a feed shaped around selected topics, summaries for faster reading, and a chatbot for combining coverage into an answer. Its historical features suggest an effort to reduce time spent browsing, but they are not evidence that the service reliably reduced reading time or improved understanding. One Product Hunt reviewer described the appeal as reading less news while staying more informed; that is an individual opinion, not survey evidence.
Otherweb was a digital service, so no particular phone, tablet, e-reader, or headphones were required by the information available. The evidence also does not establish a current referral or affiliate program.
