OSCAL PowerMax 1800 SE Review: Is This 1,024Wh Power Station Worth It?

The OSCAL PowerMax 1800 SE is a 1,024Wh portable power station rated for 1,800W of continuous AC output—not a 1.8kWh battery. It offers a useful spread of ports and a compact footprint, but it is not expandable and its maximum charging input is 800W. Notebookcheck’s review of the European 230V model found it capable, while noting charging, app, noise and runtime-display drawbacks. Whether it is a good buy depends on your appliances, region and the current price.

What the PowerMax 1800 SE is—and what “1800” means

The “1800” in the name refers to the station’s rated AC output in watts. Its stored energy is 1,024 watt-hours (Wh), supplied by a LiFePO4 battery. Watts describe how much power it can deliver at a moment; watt-hours describe the energy available over time. A 1,800W rating therefore does not mean the unit stores 1,800Wh or can run every 1,800W appliance for an hour.

Notebookcheck’s 2026 review covered the European 230V version, listing 1,800W continuous output and 3,600W peak output. Peak output is not the same as a continuous rating: an appliance’s startup surge may briefly exceed its running demand, but the station’s peak figure alone does not establish that it will start every motor or compressor. Check both the appliance’s running watts and its startup requirement against the exact local model’s limits. Notebookcheck’s review identifies the tested voltage and its measured behavior.

Ports and rated limits

The reviewed European unit has three 230V AC outlets. Its other outputs and their stated limits are summarized below; the per-port maximums should not be assumed to be simultaneously available at full power unless the manual for your model confirms that.

#1 Best Overall

  • OSCAL Portable Power Station, Power Banks for Phone 09
Output Ports Stated limit
AC (reviewed European model) 3 outlets 1,800W continuous; 3,600W peak, as reported by Notebookcheck (2026)
USB-C 2 Up to 100W per port
USB-A 2 15W and 18W
12V car outlet 1 120W
DC5521 2 72W total, according to the SE manual

For camping, the USB-C ports can charge compatible laptops and other devices, while the car outlet and DC outputs cover some 12V equipment. AC outlets are for appliances that need household-style power, but AC conversion consumes energy; the 1,024Wh battery does not translate into 1,024Wh delivered to every load.

Will 1,024Wh run a fridge or support an outage?

It can be a useful source of limited backup power, but the capacity is not a promise of a fixed runtime. Actual runtime depends on appliance draw, startup behavior, inverter losses, cycling and temperature. A refrigerator’s compressor switches on and off, so its average consumption differs from its running watts. Add up the devices you intend to run, account for startup surges, and treat any runtime estimate on the display as an estimate rather than a guarantee.

Notebookcheck reported that during one test condition the station’s displayed AC output was higher than the reviewer’s measuring device, raising a concern that the displayed remaining-runtime estimate may be unreliable. That is an observation from the reviewed unit, not proof that every unit behaves identically. For backup planning, test the actual loads you need and keep a margin rather than relying on the screen estimate.

For a weekend camp, the SE’s capacity and varied outputs may suit lights, phones, laptops and moderate appliance use, provided the combined draw and recharge plan fit your trip. For household backup, it is better regarded as a finite reserve than a whole-home solution: it cannot provide unlimited power, and it will not cover a load whose continuous or startup demand exceeds its output rating.

Charging speed, solar input and efficiency

The manual specifies up to 800W AC input and up to 800W solar input. The solar input range is 10–60V with a 20A maximum. The maximum is a rated ceiling, not a guaranteed input at every moment: solar conditions, panel configuration and the station’s charging behavior affect actual charging. Confirm compatibility and limits for any panel before connecting it.

Notebookcheck observed a full AC charge taking a little over 90 minutes. In its AC charging efficiency test, more than 1,160Wh entered the station and a little over 88% of the supplied energy reached the battery. These are measurements from that review’s test, not universal results for every outlet, temperature, firmware or unit. The relatively modest 800W input also means the SE is not the fastest choice if rapid turnaround between heavy-use periods is a priority.

Portability, noise and usability

The SE manual lists a weight of approximately 14.35kg and dimensions of 420 × 238 × 256mm. That makes it portable enough to move between a vehicle, campsite and home, but it is not a lightweight pack-in power source. The handle and compact footprint help with carrying and storage; consider the weight if you will routinely move it over distance.

Notebookcheck measured charging noise around 44dB and discharge noise sometimes above 50dB at full load, at one metre. Those are reviewer measurements under the stated test context; fan activity and perceived noise can vary with load and environment. The review also notes an LED light and UPS functionality as positives, but criticized a beep that could not be disabled and a basic app. If the unit will sit beside a bed or in a quiet indoor space, noise and alerts are worth considering.

Expansion and battery care

Notebookcheck lists the PowerMax 1800 SE as non-expandable. OSCAL’s separate PowerMax 1800 page describes a BP1800 expansion pack for that other model; it does not establish compatibility with the SE. Do not buy an expansion battery on the basis of the shared PowerMax 1800 name.

The SE manual states that the battery should retain more than 80% capacity after 3,500 cycles. This is a manufacturer specification, not an outcome verified by Notebookcheck’s product test. The manual gives operating limits of 0°C to 45°C for charging and -10°C to 45°C for discharging; storage is also listed as -10°C to 45°C, ideally 20°C to 30°C. It recommends charging, discharging and recharging every six months and advises against leaving the battery fully drained for a long period. Check the manual packaged with the exact regional unit for safety and care instructions.

Price and value

Notebookcheck lists a $699.99 MSRP and says the station is often available for less. OSCAL’s store displayed $499.99 against a $699.99 comparison price when checked in 2026, but the listed variants were marked sold out. Those figures are not a live quote: price, stock and regional availability can change, so verify them before buying.

At a substantial discount, the combination of 1,024Wh capacity, 1,800W rated output and a broad port selection may make sense for camping and limited backup if 800W charging and non-expandability meet your needs. At or near the listed MSRP, compare current alternatives on equal terms: usable energy, continuous and surge output, local AC voltage, charging input, weight, expansion support, noise, app features, warranty and price. Notebookcheck compares it with the Anker Solix C1000 Gen 2 and notes that some competing models charge faster; that observation is not a current price or overall-value ranking.

Verdict: who should consider it?

The PowerMax 1800 SE is a plausible fit for buyers who need roughly 1kWh of storage, several charging options and substantial AC output in a movable unit. Its limits are consequential: it cannot be expanded, its charging input tops out at 800W, and runtime depends heavily on the load. The independent review found a solid overall impression, alongside practical shortcomings in charging speed, app quality, alerts and display accuracy under a test condition. Buy only after confirming the local voltage/model, checking appliance startup demands and comparing the price available where you live.
