Order of the Sinking Star FAQ: Steam Deck support, multiplayer, and save options

Short answer: Order of the Sinking Star is Steam Deck Verified, is presented as a single-player game, and offers cloud-save features on both Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. Steam uses Steam Cloud; Switch 2 uses Nintendo’s Save Data Cloud with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. No official listing confirms that saves move between Steam, Switch 2, and PlayStation 5, so you should treat each platform’s saves as separate.

The Steam and Nintendo store metadata listed these details on October 13, 2026, and the developer’s Steam Deck announcement was published September 15, 2026. Store labels and service availability can change.

Is Order of the Sinking Star Steam Deck compatible?

Yes. The developer announced on September 15, 2026, that Order of the Sinking Star had received Steam Deck Verified status. The announcement specifically describes controls and the user interface as optimized for handheld play. The Steam listing also identifies Steam Deck among the supported release platforms.

“Verified” is the strongest compatibility label in Valve’s Deck system, but it is not a substitute for a hardware-performance review. The September 15, 2026 announcement establishes compatibility and handheld-oriented input and interface work; it does not provide frame-rate measurements, battery-life figures, loading-time tests, or settings recommendations for a particular Deck model. Those results can vary with system software, display settings and later game updates.

What Verified means for a buyer

  • You can reasonably expect the developer’s submission to meet Steam Deck’s compatibility requirements at the time of certification.
  • The developer says the controls and interface were adapted for a small handheld display rather than simply leaving the desktop layout unchanged.
  • The game does not require a Steam Deck. It remains a PC release that can be played on other compatible computers through Steam.

If you are choosing a handheld specifically for this title, the evidence supports Deck compatibility, not a claim that every model delivers identical performance. Check the current Steam compatibility indicator before installing, because both the game and Steam’s metadata can be updated.

Does the game have multiplayer or co-op?

The official store information describes a solo experience. Steam marks Order of the Sinking Star as Single-player, while Nintendo’s Switch 2 page specifies one player on a single system. The Steam and Nintendo listings do not advertise online multiplayer, local co-op, shared-screen play or a versus mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That makes the game’s design a better fit for one person working through puzzles at their own pace. It does not rule out discussing solutions with another person or handing the controller to someone else, but those are informal ways to play rather than supported multiplayer features. Do not buy the game expecting a co-op campaign or an online matchmaking component unless a later developer update explicitly adds one.

What save options are available on Steam and Steam Deck?

The Steam store listing includes Steam Cloud for the game. Steam Cloud stores supported save data through your Steam account so that the Steam version can synchronize it between compatible installations, such as a desktop PC and a Steam Deck using the same account.

What Steam Cloud does—and does not—establish

  • It confirms a cloud-save feature for the Steam edition.
  • It does not document a manual save export or import file format.
  • It does not prove that a save can be moved to Nintendo Switch 2 or PlayStation 5.
  • It does not guarantee that every file, configuration setting or future update will synchronize identically.

Before switching between a PC and Deck, let Steam finish syncing after you close the game. If Steam reports a conflict, read the timestamps and choose the copy that contains your latest progress rather than automatically selecting one. Avoid deleting local save files while a conflict is unresolved; doing so can remove the only current copy.

Rank #3

Checking the feature in Steam

  1. Install and launch the game while signed in to the Steam account that owns it.
  2. Close the game normally so Steam has an opportunity to upload the latest save.
  3. On the other Steam device, wait for Steam Cloud synchronization to complete before launching.
  4. If the game opens with older progress, stop playing, close it, and investigate the sync status instead of creating a new save that could overwrite the newer cloud copy.

The published Steam and developer support information does not specify a title-specific backup folder, command or export workflow. If you need an archival backup outside Steam Cloud, consult the developer’s support channel before moving files manually; the Order of the Sinking Star support category is the published contact path.

What save options are available on Nintendo Switch 2?

Nintendo’s US product page lists Save Data Cloud for the Switch 2 version and states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required. This is Nintendo’s account-based backup service for compatible games, rather than a promise that the game’s save can be read by another platform.

Nintendo’s general Switch Online save-data FAQ explains that members can back up compatible game saves and access those backups with their Nintendo Account on compatible consoles. The same support information says that local save-data backups are not currently supported on Switch 2 or the original Switch. That general policy should not be confused with a title-specific export function: the Nintendo listing confirms cloud backup availability, but it does not describe a file you can copy to a PC or upload to Steam.

Practical Switch 2 precautions

  • Use the Nintendo Account and Switch Online membership associated with the game’s save.
  • Allow the console to complete its cloud backup before moving to another compatible Nintendo console.
  • Check that the game is compatible with Save Data Cloud and that the membership is active; Nintendo’s service rules apply in addition to the game’s own save system.
  • Do not assume that a Nintendo cloud backup can be restored on Steam Deck or PS5.

Can you transfer a save between Steam Deck, Switch 2 and PS5?

That remains unconfirmed. Steam Cloud and Nintendo Save Data Cloud are separately documented platform services, but no official material says that Order of the Sinking Star uses a shared account, cross-progression server or synchronized save format.

In practical terms, a Steam save should be treated as a Steam-platform save, and a Switch 2 backup should be treated as a Nintendo-platform backup. Having the same email address, owning the game on multiple stores, or subscribing to both cloud services does not by itself connect the saves. A transfer would require an explicit developer-supported process, such as a cross-platform account sign-in or an announced import/export tool; no such process is described in the available listings.

What to do before changing platforms

  1. Finish a puzzle, return to the game’s normal menu and close it cleanly on the original platform.
  2. Confirm that the platform’s cloud service shows the newest save as synchronized.
  3. Keep the original device and account available until the new platform is confirmed to contain the expected progress.
  4. Ask Thekla or the published support channel directly if you need a platform transfer. Do not overwrite an existing save while waiting for an answer.

These precautions protect your existing progress; they do not create cross-platform compatibility where the publisher has not documented it.

  • Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
  • Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
  • The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

What is known about the PlayStation 5 version?

The official game FAQ lists PlayStation 5 as a platform, but the official FAQ and listings do not establish how PlayStation save storage works for this title. They do not confirm PlayStation cloud-save eligibility, a PlayStation Plus requirement, cross-save with Steam or Switch 2, or a manual backup procedure.

Therefore, treat PS5 saves as a separate, unverified area. Check the game’s current PlayStation store information or ask the developer for title-specific instructions before buying on PS5 because you expect to continue a save from another system. The absence of a published transfer method is not evidence that one exists privately or that it will be added later.

Which platform makes sense for a single-player puzzle adventure?

Choose this option Why it fits Important limitation
Steam on PC Steam Cloud is listed, and you can also play the Steam edition on a Steam Deck. Cloud support is platform-specific; cross-platform transfer is not confirmed.
Steam Deck The developer has announced Verified status with optimized handheld controls and interface. No independent performance, battery or frame-rate results are provided by the official announcement.
Switch 2 Nintendo lists one-player play and Save Data Cloud for compatible backups. Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for Save Data Cloud, and the backup is not documented as readable elsewhere.
PS5 The official game FAQ lists PS5 as an announced platform. The official FAQ and listings do not answer PS5 cloud-save or cross-save questions.

The game itself is built for patient, individual play. Steam describes a puzzle adventure with more than 1,000 hand-crafted puzzles across four worlds and lets players explore at their own pace, revisit worlds and return to challenges as they choose. That structure makes reliable local and cloud backups valuable, but it does not change the platform boundaries documented above.

Bottom line

Order of the Sinking Star is a Steam Deck Verified, single-player puzzle adventure. Steam provides Steam Cloud, while Switch 2 provides Nintendo Save Data Cloud for members of Nintendo Switch Online. Those services protect saves within their respective ecosystems; no reviewed official source confirms cross-platform saves, and PlayStation 5 save behavior remains unspecified. Choose the platform where you plan to spend most of your time, and verify any transfer option with the developer before assuming your progress will follow you.
