The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are still two distinct 2001 Game Boy Color adventures in Nintendo’s Game Boy – Nintendo Classics library for Switch—not a newly combined remake. Their core differences are their settings and world-changing mechanics: Ages centers on time travel, while Seasons lets Link change the seasons. The Switch library adds features such as rewind and suspend points around the original games.
Are the Oracle games in a new collection remakes?
No. Nintendo’s current Game Boy – Nintendo Classics listing includes both Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, identifying them as Game Boy Color games. Nintendo’s cited pages do not describe a remake or a newly combined Oracle game, nor do they document title-specific changes to the original stories, dungeons, or core mechanics.

The meaningful comparison is between the two original adventures, and between playing those games on their original hardware and using the Switch library’s emulation features.

How are Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons different?
Nintendo describes the games as self-contained adventures with different stories, settings, and characters. Their central gameplay distinction is how Link changes the world to make progress.

| Game | Setting | Core mechanic | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oracle of Ages | Labrynna | Time travel with the Harp of Ages | Changes in the past can affect the present. Nintendo gives examples of moving a stone to redirect a river in the present, or planting seeds in the past so trees and vines grow later. |
| Oracle of Seasons | Holodrum | Changing seasons with the Rod of Seasons | Seasonal shifts alter routes and obstacles. Nintendo’s examples include making a flower grow tall enough to climb in spring and freezing a lake in winter so Link can walk across it. |
In practice, choose Ages if the idea of solving puzzles by changing the past appeals to you; choose Seasons if you would rather alter the landscape by switching seasons. Neither is simply a minor variant of the other.
How do the two games connect?
They can be played separately, but completing one gives you a password to use in the other. Nintendo says the password can unlock items, affect what characters remember, and add story elements, linking the adventures. Its July 26, 2023 announcement explains: “Once you beat one of them, you’ll get a password that can be used in the other game, allowing the two games to interact with each other!”

Nintendo recommends linking the games for a more connected experience. If you plan to play both, finish one first and use the password in the other rather than treating them as unrelated versions.

The Switch library provides shared Game Boy – Nintendo Classics features around the games. Nintendo’s library page lists suspend points, rewind, and screen styles for Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, and Game Boy Color. These are presentation and convenience options; the cited Nintendo pages do not establish that they change either Oracle game’s underlying content.

- The land of Holodrum is slowly withering. Onox, the General of Darkness, has imprisoned the Oracle of Seasons and is draining the very life out of the land. With the seasons in tumult and the forces of evil running rampant, the world looks for a hero... and finds Link. His quest won't be easy - he'll have to master the seasons themselves if he's to turn back the evil tide.
- Suspend points: Save a temporary stopping point in the library rather than relying only on the game’s own save system.
- Rewind: Move back through recent gameplay, useful for recovering from a mistake.
- Screen styles: Select a display styled after Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, or Game Boy Color.
Nintendo announced the games’ addition for Nintendo Switch Online members on July 26, 2023. Its current US library page lists Nintendo Switch as the system. Nintendo Support says access to Game Boy – Nintendo Classics is through Nintendo Switch Online, with ongoing access to classic games while membership is active. These access details are from Nintendo’s US pages; check your local Nintendo service page for regional terms.

If you are deciding between the two games, the choice is about the adventure you want: time-based puzzles in Labrynna with Ages, or season-changing puzzles in Holodrum with Seasons. To experience the connected story material, play both and carry the completion password into the second game.
