The Optoma Photon Beam PK52 is a 4K laser projector for buyers building a large-screen setup around a separate streaming device and, ideally, external audio. Optoma Australia lists 4K UHD resolution and 3,500 lumens; Gizmochina reviewer Anvinraj Valiyathara reported sharp, immersive images and useful picture processing in his September 30, 2026 review. Its fit depends just as much on room geometry and the extra equipment you need as on the picture.
What the PK52 offers
Optoma Australia lists the PK52 as a DLP projector with 4K UHD resolution (3840 × 2160), a 3,500-lumen rating, Rec.709 color gamut, and a laser phosphor light source rated for 30,000 hours in Eco mode. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. See Optoma Australia’s PK52 specifications for the market-specific listing.

The Photon Series page also advertises HDR10+ and PureMotion MEMC. Optoma describes Filmmaker Mode as preserving a film’s original frame rate, color, and aspect ratio. Those are feature descriptions, not a guarantee of a particular HDR or motion result in every room or with every source. Regional Optoma pages can differ, so verify features for the exact local model before buying.

How it performs for movies and everyday viewing
In his review, published by Gizmochina on September 30, 2026, Anvinraj Valiyathara describes the PK52’s image as large and immersive, with sharp detail in landscapes, buildings, faces, and smaller textures. He found PureEngine processing useful for polishing everyday content. These are the reviewer’s reported impressions, not independently reproduced test results.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning 4K UHD Image
- Innovative Design
- HDR10
Valiyathara also reports that the projector’s brightness made viewing enjoyable without a completely dark room, while movies looked best with the lights dimmed. The 3,500-lumen figure is Optoma’s rating; it should not be read as a lab measurement of the brightness you will see on your screen.
Check the room before choosing a screen
Placement is a practical constraint, not a detail to leave until installation. Optoma Australia specifies a 1.21–1.59 throw ratio, 1.3× manual zoom, and a projection distance of 1–8 m. The listed diagonal image range is 28–300 inches, with the mechanism range optimized at 82 inches. The page’s narrative also mentions a 50-inch minimum, so treat the technical table and accompanying prose as inconsistent on that point rather than assuming every listed size is equally practical.
Rank #2
- Stunning 4K UHD Image
- Innovative Design
- HDR10
Use the throw ratio and your intended screen width to check whether the projector can sit at a suitable distance in your room. Zoom gives some placement flexibility, but it does not remove the need to calculate the geometry. Optoma lists ±30° horizontal and vertical keystone correction; this can help with setup, but it is not a substitute for an appropriate projector position. Confirm the intended screen size and mounting location against the official Australia specification page before purchase.

Streaming requires an external source
The Gizmochina review reports that the PK52 has no built-in Google TV, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. For streaming, Valiyathara connected an external device; a streaming stick or TV box can feed video through HDMI. That adds a device to buy and a connection to manage, but it lets you choose a platform that suits your apps and region.
Rank #3
- 10 in. Ultra Short Throw Distance
- Integrated Dolby Audio
- Triple Laser RGB Technology
Optoma Australia lists two HDMI 2.0 inputs, with ARC on one, a USB-A 1.5A power output, and a 3.5 mm audio output. Check the streaming device’s HDMI and power requirements, as well as app availability in your country. The review does not establish that any particular stick or box is included with the projector.
Gaming and sound: plan the rest of the setup
Valiyathara reports support for gaming at up to 4K/60 Hz and 1080p/120 Hz. Those modes give console and PC owners useful options, but the review does not provide independent input-lag measurements. Do not infer competitive-gaming responsiveness from resolution and refresh-rate support alone.
Rank #4
- BIG 150” IMAGE – Turn any room or backyard into movie night. Enjoy big screen entertainment with family and friends - up to 150” image.
- CRISP AND BRIGHT PICTURE – Full HD 1080p resolution with 4K input support delivers sharp and detailed images from HD content without downscaling or compression, and supports input from 4K sources with HDR and HLG content.
- LED TECHNOLOGY – Optoma’s 3LED (RGB) delivers consistent, true-to-source color with quick on/off and virtually no maintenance. With solid-state reliability (no lamps to replace) and mercury-free efficiency, it’s a quiet, cool-running projector that fits everyday life.
- INNOVATIVE DESIGN – With a sleek and compact design weighing only 5.2lbs., this projector is ready to use straight out of the box for a seamless experience that is larger than life.
- AUTO KEYSTONE AND MANUAL ZOOM – Instantly adjust your settings for a clear and easily aligned screen. Just sit back and enjoy.
The reviewer describes the built-in 15W speaker as adequate for casual viewing and recommends dedicated audio for a more theater-like experience. HDMI ARC on one input or the 3.5 mm output provides an audio connection route, depending on the equipment you use. The projector weighs around 3.4 kg, according to the review and Optoma Photon Series technical information.

Price and who should consider it
Gizmochina’s September 30, 2026 review stated a price of Rs 2,95,000 for India. That is a dated regional price, not a current quote for India or a price for other markets. Check a current local offer, taxes, warranty, and included accessories before comparing the PK52 with a TV or another projector.
Best Value
- Home Cinema Experience
- Game Display Mode
- Easy Installation
The PK52 is most compelling for someone who wants a large 4K projected image, can place the unit to suit the room, and is comfortable adding a streaming source and potentially separate audio. It is less convenient if you want an all-in-one smart projector, a ready-to-use wireless setup, or a picture and sound system that require no additional gear. Before deciding, compare the alternatives on the details that affect your use:
Quick Recap
- Room fit: measure throw distance and the screen size you actually want; do not rely on keystone correction to solve a poor mounting position.
- Viewing conditions: treat 3,500 lumens as Optoma’s rated specification, and factor in the reviewer’s observation that dimmed lighting improved movie viewing.
- Sources and features: decide whether supplying an HDMI streaming device suits you, and verify regional support for the picture features you care about.
- Audio: decide whether the built-in speaker is enough for your use or whether your setup needs external sound.
- Total cost: compare current local projector pricing alongside the price of any source device, screen, mounting, and audio equipment you will need.
