All figures in this table are manufacturer-published claims. Brightness ratings use different methods, battery figures are not directly equivalent, and neither processor name alone proves that one tablet is faster in every app.
Display: OPPO offers more panel and speed; Apple offers a smaller IPS screen
OPPO’s 8.8-inch AMOLED panel
OPPO lists an 8.8-inch flexible AMOLED display with 2520×1680 resolution, 344 pixels per inch and adaptive refresh from 60Hz to 144Hz. The maximum refresh rate can make scrolling and supported games appear smoother than a 60Hz panel. OPPO also lists 800 nits typical normal brightness and 1,600 nits typical high-brightness mode (HBM).
That headline 144Hz figure has a qualification: OPPO says it is available only in certain applications. The tablet can therefore switch between refresh rates rather than running every program at 144Hz. The “Matte Display Edition” name suggests a distinct screen finish, but the cited specifications do not provide an independent glare test or a quantified reflection advantage.
iPad mini’s 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display
Apple lists an 8.3-inch LED-backlit IPS Liquid Retina panel at 2266×1488 and 326 ppi. Its stated brightness is 500 nits. True Tone adjusts color temperature to ambient light, while the antireflective coating is intended to reduce reflections. Those features may matter more than raw refresh rate for reading in mixed indoor lighting, but no side-by-side glare measurement is available here.
How the numbers translate to use
- Video, games and fast scrolling: OPPO has the larger diagonal, AMOLED technology and a higher maximum refresh rate on its published specification.
- Text and still images: Both displays are high-density. OPPO lists 344 ppi; Apple lists 326 ppi, a difference visible mainly at close viewing distances.
- Outdoor viewing: OPPO’s quoted 800-nit typical brightness and 1,600-nit HBM are higher numerically than Apple’s 500 nits, but brightness measurement methods are not stated as identical. Do not treat the figures as a laboratory ranking.
- Reflective surfaces: Apple explicitly documents an antireflective coating. OPPO’s cited page does not provide comparable glare data.
Portability: the OPPO is lighter on the published figures
OPPO lists the OPD2516 at about 194.38 × 132.38 × 5.46mm and approximately 282g. Apple lists the iPad mini at 195.4 × 134.8 × 6.3mm, with a 293g Wi‑Fi model and a 297g Wi‑Fi + Cellular model.
Rank #2
- 7.9 inch Retina display, Wide color display (P3), True Tone display technology
- Touch ID
- FaceTime HD and iSight cameras
- Apple Pencil (1st generation) support
- Lightning connector
That makes the OPPO about 11g lighter than the iPad mini Wi‑Fi on the cited specifications and about 15g lighter than the cellular iPad. The dimensions are close, so neither is a radically smaller class of device; the difference is more relevant when holding a tablet one-handed for long reading sessions. OPPO’s weight is marked “about,” and Apple’s figures are model-specific, so treat this as a published-spec comparison rather than a third-party measurement.
Performance: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and A17 Pro cannot be ranked from names alone
OPPO lists Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform with an eight-core CPU. Apple lists the A17 Pro with a six-core CPU consisting of two performance cores and four efficiency cores, a five-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine.
Core counts and platform names use different architectures, operating systems and power limits. The available specifications do not include comparable benchmark runs, sustained-load tests, thermal data or app-by-app results. It would be inaccurate to declare either tablet universally faster from these labels alone.
For everyday buying decisions, choose by workload and software ecosystem:
- Gaming: examine the games you actually play, their Android or iPadOS versions and whether they support the display’s higher refresh rate. OPPO’s 144Hz claim is app-dependent.
- Creative apps: check whether the specific drawing, editing or music applications you need are available with the same features on ColorOS and iPadOS.
- Long-term app support: Apple’s tablet software catalog and OPPO’s Android/ColorOS catalog are different; compatibility should be checked app by app rather than inferred from processor branding.
Storage and memory: one fixed OPPO configuration versus three iPad capacities
The cited OPPO Singapore listing specifies 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. That is a straightforward configuration, but it also means you must verify whether the same 8GB+256GB version is sold in your country and whether another regional variant exists.

- FAST WI-FI CONNECTIVITY — Wi-Fi 6 gives you fast access to your files, uploads, and downloads, and lets you seamlessly stream your favorite shows.
Apple lists the iPad mini in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities. The 128GB model can suit streaming, web use and cloud-based documents; 256GB gives more room for downloaded media, photos and games; 512GB is aimed at people who keep large local libraries or project files. Apple’s listed capacities provide more choice, while OPPO’s cited configuration gives 256GB without requiring a storage tier decision.
Neither specification set establishes expandable storage. Do not assume a memory-card slot or upgrade path unless the exact regional product page confirms one.
Cameras and video calls
OPPO lists a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. Apple lists a 12MP Wide rear camera. The cited material does not provide a front-camera specification for the iPad mini, so that detail should be checked on Apple’s full technical page before purchase.
Megapixels do not establish image quality, stabilization, autofocus behavior, low-light performance or microphone quality. For scanning documents, taking occasional notes or joining calls, compare the camera features in the apps you use. There is no controlled camera test in the available evidence.
Battery and charging: capacity figures are not an endurance contest
OPPO’s capacity and charging claims
OPPO lists an 8,000mAh typical battery and a 7,820mAh rated capacity, with charging up to 67W SUPERVOOC. “Typical” and “rated” are different ways of expressing capacity; the two figures should not be added together. Actual charge time depends on the supplied charger, temperature, cable, software and regional bundle.

Apple’s watt-hour rating and runtime estimate
Apple lists a 19.3-watt-hour battery for the iPad mini (A17 Pro). Apple estimates up to 10 hours of Wi‑Fi web browsing or video playback, or up to 9 hours of web use on cellular data. Those are Apple’s usage estimates, not results from a shared test against the OPPO.
Because one manufacturer emphasizes milliamp-hours and charging power while the other publishes watt-hours and estimated hours, the figures cannot prove which tablet lasts longer. If endurance is decisive, compare independent tests of the exact regional models or use a retailer’s return policy to validate your workload.
Connectivity, ports and external displays
Wireless options
OPPO lists Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 for the OPD2516. Apple sells the iPad mini as either a Wi‑Fi model or a Wi‑Fi + Cellular model. Apple’s cellular version uses eSIM and does not accept a physical SIM card. Confirm that your carrier supports the required eSIM activation before choosing it for travel or field work.
USB and monitor support
OPPO lists a USB Type‑C port with USB 3.2 Gen 1. Apple lists USB‑C with USB 3 transfer speeds up to 10Gb/s, native DisplayPort output and support for one external display up to 4K at 60Hz. If you routinely move large video files or connect a monitor, check the exact cable, hub and display requirements; a USB‑C connector does not guarantee identical capabilities across accessories.
Software and ecosystem fit
ColorOS 16 and Android flexibility
OPPO lists ColorOS 16. Android’s file handling, default-app controls and accessory compatibility may suit users who already use Android phones, Windows PCs or Google services. OPPO cautions that software features and availability can vary by region and software version, so verify local update policies and the functions you need.

iPadOS and Apple Pencil support
The iPad mini runs iPadOS and explicitly supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB‑C). Neither pencil is listed as included with the tablet. Apple’s accessory support is therefore a documented advantage for handwriting, annotation and drawing, provided you budget for the separate pencil.
The cited OPPO specification page does not establish compatibility with an OPPO or third-party pen. If handwritten input is central to your purchase, do not assume that a generic capacitive stylus offers pressure sensitivity, palm rejection or a supported note-taking workflow. Confirm a compatible pen and its features for the exact OPD2516 sold in your market.
Which tablet suits common buyers?
Choose the OPPO Pad Mini if these priorities lead
- You want the largest screen of the two, at 8.8 inches.
- You value AMOLED contrast and a published adaptive refresh range reaching 144Hz.
- You prefer the listed approximately 282g body.
- You want a listed 8GB+256GB configuration without choosing among three storage tiers.
- You already use Android or ColorOS and want that software environment.
- You value the published 67W SUPERVOOC charging claim, subject to the charger and regional bundle.
Before paying, verify that the local product is OPD2516, carries the same 8GB+256GB specification and includes the charger you expect. Confirm authorized warranty coverage because the cited page is Singapore-specific.

- You want iPadOS and the Apple tablet app ecosystem.
- You need documented support for Apple Pencil Pro or Apple Pencil (USB‑C).
- You want a choice of 128GB, 256GB or 512GB storage.
- You need Apple’s Wi‑Fi + Cellular configuration with eSIM and no physical SIM.
- You plan to connect one external display up to 4K at 60Hz using the listed DisplayPort support.
- You prefer a compact 8.3-inch IPS display with True Tone and an antireflective coating.
When neither specification sheet settles it
If reading outdoors, handwriting, gaming performance or battery life is your deciding factor, try the exact units in person or consult controlled tests for those models. The available manufacturer pages do not establish comparable glare, pen latency, frame rates, sustained performance or endurance.
A practical buying checklist
- Identify the exact model: look for OPPO Pad Mini Matte Display Edition (OPD2516), or confirm whether the seller is offering a different regional model.
- Match storage and connectivity: compare OPPO’s listed 256GB configuration with the iPad mini capacity and Wi‑Fi/cellular class you actually need.
- Check the display in your environment: inspect reflections, text sharpness and brightness rather than relying only on peak-number comparisons.
- Confirm pen support: Apple’s two supported Pencil models are documented; OPPO pen compatibility is not established by the cited page.
- Verify the box: OPPO says contents can vary by market. Apple’s cited listing includes a USB‑C cable and 20W adapter.
- Check network activation: an iPad mini cellular model requires eSIM support from your carrier.
- Compare complete ownership cost: include the pencil or keyboard you need, charger availability, warranty, taxes and local support.
- Review return terms: prices, stock, shipping and warranty vary by country and are not established by these specifications.
Price, availability and warranty caveat
There is no substantiated price winner in this comparison. OPPO’s cited information is a Singapore specification page rather than a worldwide retail listing, and Apple’s technical page does not establish your local selling price. Check current offers for the same storage and connectivity class, then compare warranty length, authorized service, bundled accessories and return rights. A lower shelf price is not directly comparable if one package omits a charger or requires a separately purchased pen.
Bottom line
On paper, the OPPO Pad Mini Matte Display Edition is the more display-focused and lighter option: 8.8-inch AMOLED, up to 144Hz and approximately 282g, with 256GB listed. The iPad mini (A17 Pro) is the more clearly documented ecosystem choice, adding iPadOS, Apple Pencil support, three storage tiers and an eSIM-equipped cellular version.
Neither tablet can be declared the performance or battery winner from these manufacturer specifications. Select the OPPO after confirming the Singapore-listed configuration and local warranty; select the iPad mini when Apple’s software, Pencil support, cellular option or storage choices matter more than the OPPO panel advantages.
