OpenAI Dots, Meta Muse and Grok Bot: Who Owns Your AI Agent’s Computer?

These agent computers are hosted cloud environments, not hardware transferred to subscribers. The important differences are how each provider allocates the environment and which agents share it.

Short answer: None of these product descriptions says that subscribers own a physical computer or server. OpenAI Dots, Meta Muse and Grok Bot describe cloud-hosted computer environments allocated to an agent or account. That allocation—and whether agents share files or sessions—is what “your AI agent’s computer” means in practice. It is separate from the legal question of who owns the hardware or what contractual rights apply to your data.

What “your agent’s computer” means

A cloud computer is a computing environment run on a provider’s infrastructure and made available through its service. Calling it “your” computer can describe an allocation or workspace; it does not, by itself, transfer ownership of the physical server. The product pages discussed here describe how their environments are assigned and accessed, but do not settle legal title to the hardware or all rights concerning user data.

The key practical questions are: what is the allocation unit—a particular agent or the account—and which other agents or users can access its files, browser sessions and logins?

How the three products allocate their cloud computers

Product What the provider describes Sharing boundary described Availability and access notes
OpenAI Dots OpenAI says each dot has its own cloud computer and browser. OpenAI Help Center and OpenAI’s Dots announcement. The product description says a dot has its own computer. It does not specify the underlying hardware isolation model or establish cross-dot data boundaries. OpenAI’s Help Center says Dots are rolling out to Pro users outside the EEA, Switzerland and UK. Connecting a computer uses the ChatGPT desktop app. Availability may change. OpenAI Help Center.
Meta Muse Meta describes Muse Secure VM as a dedicated virtual machine in the cloud that houses the agent and a person’s data. Meta, “Introducing Muse”. Meta says the computer is contained so another person’s agent cannot reach it. Meta’s security article says its Muse Confidential VM is designed to cryptographically and verifiably prevent Meta from accessing VM data; that is Meta’s description of its design, not an independent audit. Meta AI Research, “How We Built Safety Into Muse”. The cited announcement describes a US launch on iOS, Android and muse.ai. Check Meta’s current announcement for availability, which can change. Meta, “Introducing Muse”.
Grok Bot SpaceXAI describes a persistent cloud computer with a browser, filesystem and terminal. SpaceXAI Docs, “Grok Bot”. All Bots on one user’s account share the same computer, including files, browser sessions and logins. Enterprise documentation describes one Firecracker microVM per user and isolation between users—not isolation between that user’s Bots. SpaceXAI Docs, “Grok Bot” and “Grok Bot for teams and enterprises”. SpaceXAI’s August 11, 2026 announcement listed beta access for specified SuperGrok and Cursor plans. That announcement’s eligibility list may be superseded by later plan documentation. SpaceXAI, “Introducing Grok Bot”.

The source pages describe service-level allocation, not a comparable independent assessment of security, uptime, task success or total cost. OpenAI’s cited getting-started information establishes that a cloud computer is available, but does not provide a hardware-level isolation specification.

Do the agents share a computer with each other?

OpenAI Dots: allocated per dot, with details not stated

OpenAI says each dot has its own cloud computer. The cited product information does not explain whether that means separate underlying hardware, nor does it document the boundaries between multiple dots’ files or sessions. “Its own” should not be read as a full technical isolation guarantee.

Meta Muse: a dedicated VM, according to Meta

Meta describes Muse’s VM as dedicated and says one person’s agent cannot reach another person’s computer. Meta also presents Confidential VM technology as a way to prevent Meta from accessing data in the VM. These are vendor statements about product design; they are not evidence here of an independent security audit.

Ideal for gaming, video editing, and multitasking, it provides expansive and crisp multi-display support.

Grok Bot: shared by Bots on the same account

Grok Bot’s documentation makes the account boundary explicit: the user’s Bots share one persistent computer. Files, browser sessions and logins can therefore be shared among those Bots. Enterprise documentation’s per-user microVM description concerns separation between users, not separation among Bots owned by one user.

Does the agent’s cloud computer give it access to your laptop?

No—not by itself. A hosted cloud environment and access to a local computer are separate capabilities. OpenAI says connecting a computer uses the ChatGPT desktop app. Grok Bot documents local execution as a separate option with settings; the cited guidance sets the default to “Ask every time.” Review the relevant controls before allowing local actions, because those actions involve your device rather than only the provider-hosted environment. Who owns the hardware, and who controls the data?

The reviewed product pages do not establish who holds legal title to the physical servers, or fully resolve contractual rights over data stored or processed in these environments. They explain service architecture and access boundaries, not the complete legal relationship. Do not infer hardware ownership from phrases such as “your dot has its own cloud computer” or “the computer belongs to your account.” For data rights, retention and contractual obligations, consult the provider’s applicable terms and privacy documentation; the product descriptions cited here are not enough to answer those questions.

What to check before choosing or enabling an agent

  • Find the sharing boundary. Determine whether the computer is allocated per agent, per account or per user, and whether sibling agents can access the same files, sessions or logins.
  • Separate cloud and local permissions. A cloud workspace does not necessarily mean local-device access. Check whether local execution is available and what consent setting applies.
  • Read privacy claims as attributed claims. A vendor’s description of isolation or confidential computing explains intended design; it is not the same as an independent audit.
  • Check current eligibility. Geographic rollout, platforms and plan access can change. The cited announcements describe availability at the time they were published, not a guarantee of current access.

SpaceXAI’s August 11, 2026 launch post included a promotional statement that Grok Bot can finish work in the actual tool. That is commentary about the product’s intended task completion, not evidence about ownership, security or independent performance.
