Open Standard announced it on June 30, 2026; Bridge and Stripe announced that it went live on September 30. The companies have different roles: Bridge says it currently issues OUSD, Stripe has announced business-product support, Visa introduced an institutional stablecoin platform beginning with OUSD, and Coinbase is named as a founding company—not as OUSD’s issuer or as the provider of a specified customer-facing launch feature.
What Open USD is—and when it launched
Open Standard introduced OUSD as open infrastructure for businesses moving money over the internet, rather than as a consumer-focused coin launch. Its founding companies are Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe and Visa. The project announcement was published June 30, 2026. Bridge and Stripe said OUSD went live on September 30, 2026.

Bridge’s September 30 launch announcement lists four live networks: Base, Ethereum, Solana and Tempo. A token being available across several networks does not by itself establish how much OUSD is circulating or how much is being used on each one; the launch announcements do not give independently measured circulation or transaction-volume figures.

The headline names three high-profile companies, but their involvement is not interchangeable. Open Standard’s announcement describes a founding group; Stripe’s announcement describes business-product support; and Visa’s announcement describes a separate institutional platform.

| Company | Role established by the launch announcements | Availability or scope stated |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Business-product support for OUSD | Stripe said OUSD could be used with Treasury, Issuing, Global Payouts, Crypto Onramp and Payments. Its September 30 blog described a Tempo-based OUSD configuration as the default while saying Stripe continues to support alternatives and does not require users to convert existing balances. |
| Visa | Introduced the Visa Stablecoin Platform for institutional minting, movement and management of stablecoins, beginning with OUSD | Visa said the platform was initially available for beta testing with selected clients. That is not a general consumer wallet announcement or confirmation of broad public availability. |
| Coinbase | Named as a founding company of Open Standard; Coinbase Chief Business Officer Shan Aggarwal also commented in the June announcement | The launch material does not establish that Coinbase issues OUSD or that a particular Coinbase customer-facing OUSD feature was broadly available at launch. |
These roles should not be read as evidence that Visa, Stripe and Coinbase jointly issue the token. Open Standard’s June announcement framed the project around business-scale infrastructure. Interim CEO Zach Abrams said businesses need something “open, low-cost, high-throughput, broadly accessible, and aligned to their interests” to use stablecoins at scale; that is the project’s stated rationale, not independent proof of its economics or performance.
Who issues OUSD, and what the announced model promises
Bridge says OUSD is currently issued by Bridge Building Inc. Bridge National Trust Bank is a separate entity: Bridge says it is not operational and does not issue OUSD. Bridge also says its conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is not final charter approval and does not authorize that bank to issue OUSD under the GENIUS Act.

Open Standard’s June announcement described the intended operating model as follows:
Recommended Free Tools
- Businesses could mint and redeem OUSD without charge or artificial volume limits.
- Partners would receive reserve earnings, less a small management fee intended to cover operating costs.
- Open Standard would operate as an independent company with a board made up of partners.
These are terms and design principles stated in the announcement; they do not independently establish how the model has operated since launch or what a user is legally entitled to receive. The launch material reviewed does not establish OUSD’s reserve-asset mix, custodian, independent attestation schedule, binding redemption terms, or a complete geographic eligibility list. Anyone assessing safety, liquidity or access should seek those specifics from the relevant service provider and legal documents rather than infer them from partner participation.

How to interpret the partner counts and market forecast
Open Standard’s June 30 announcement said more than 140 businesses had signed up to use or support Open USD. Stripe’s September 30 launch blog described OUSD as supported and distributed by its founding companies and more than 200 network partners. These are figures from different announcements, with different descriptions and dates; neither is a measure of OUSD holders, circulation or transaction volume.
The June announcement also quoted BNY Chief Product and Innovation Officer Carolyn Weinberg’s forecast that stablecoins “may grow to $1.5 trillion by 2030.” That is an attributed outlook, not a measured result or an independently evaluated projection in the launch materials.

What the launch does—and does not—mean for a business
For a business already using Stripe, the announcement identifies several Stripe products where OUSD could be used and names Tempo as the network for Stripe’s stated default configuration. Stripe also says alternatives remain supported and existing balances do not have to be converted. The materials do not supply a complete eligibility matrix, so availability should be confirmed for the business’s location, account and intended product.
For an institution considering Visa’s platform, the relevant announcement is about stablecoin infrastructure for minting, moving and managing assets, with initial access limited to selected beta clients. It does not indicate a consumer-facing Visa account or an open enrollment program.

For a Coinbase customer, the documented connection is Coinbase’s place among Open Standard’s founding companies and its executive’s participation in the announcement. The cited launch information does not specify a Coinbase app listing, trading feature or issuance role.
At launch, then, OUSD was live on four named networks and tied to distinct business and institutional initiatives, but the public announcements alone do not answer every practical diligence question. The issuer identity, reserve disclosures, redemption rights, eligibility and observed usage are separate matters from the companies’ stated support for the project.
