Onvis’s Outdoor Smart Plug is reported to combine Matter over Thread, energy monitoring, IP65 protection and a maximum load of 1,800 watts. According to 9to5Mac’s October 9, 2026 report, it works with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings. Those specifications make it worth considering for outdoor lights and other compatible equipment, but the exact outlet configuration and platform-by-platform energy features still need to be checked on the live product listing.
What the Onvis outdoor smart plug offers
Onvis’s product collection lists an “Onvis Outdoor Smart Plug,” describing it as a Matter-over-Thread device with energy monitoring and IP65 protection. 9to5Mac’s October 9, 2026 launch report adds a maximum load of 1,800 watts and names Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings as compatible systems.

Matter is intended to let compatible smart-home products work across supported ecosystems. Thread is the plug’s stated network protocol; it is distinct from Wi-Fi. The launch report suggests Thread may be useful where Wi-Fi coverage is weak, but it does not provide range or reliability measurements. Treat it as a possible connectivity advantage, not a guarantee that the plug will reach a particular outdoor location.
Apple Home compatibility and hub requirements
9to5Mac reports that the plug works with Apple Home and says a HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K is needed to take full advantage of it in that ecosystem. The article does not describe the plug as having its own hub. Because the specific Apple requirements were not independently verified, check the current Onvis and Apple setup guidance for your intended configuration before buying.

The report also lists Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings compatibility. That does not establish that each system offers identical energy readings, history, or automation options. Confirm the features exposed in the platform you plan to use rather than assuming Matter compatibility means every app presents the same data.
What its energy monitoring can tell you
The launch report says users can view power use and energy consumption through a Matter-compatible smart-home system, and specifically claims the information appears in Apple Home’s energy view. This can help you observe the electricity use of a connected device, such as seasonal lighting. The available product information does not establish how much historical data each platform retains or whether all four named platforms show the same measurements.

Energy monitoring reports usage; it does not make an attached device safe to operate outdoors or confirm that its electrical load is within limits. Check the device’s rating and operating instructions, then compare its load with the plug’s stated maximum before connecting it.
IP65 protection and the 1,800-watt limit
9to5Mac describes the plug’s IP65 rating as protection against dust and low-pressure water jets. That rating should not be read as approval for every outdoor exposure or installation. Follow the manufacturer’s placement and use instructions, particularly for locations exposed to weather, standing water, or conditions beyond the stated protection.

The report does not provide further electrical specifications here, so consult the current product details if you need information such as voltage, current, or permitted equipment types.

Before purchasing, check the live listing for the exact product identity, current regional availability and outlet count. December 2025 coverage discussed a planned dual outdoor socket, but that earlier plan does not establish that the product reported in October 2026 has two outlets. The launch report and Onvis collection description cited here do not settle the outlet configuration.
