Ontinue Adds Managed Dark Web Monitoring to ION MXDR

Ontinue announced ION for Dark Web Monitoring on October 6, 2026, as a managed add-on for ION MXDR customers. Its initial focus is exposed credentials associated with customer domains and suspicious lookalike domains. Ontinue says its analysts validate and investigate findings within existing ION security operations workflows rather than simply sending customers a separate alert feed.

What Ontinue announced

ION for Dark Web Monitoring (DWM) is an add-on to Ontinue’s ION MXDR service, not a standalone consumer product. Ontinue said it was available immediately to ION MXDR customers when announced. The company says it monitors customer-owned domains and brand assets across selected clear, deep, and dark web sources. The launch announcement does not detail which sources are covered or how customers define the assets to monitor. Ontinue’s October 6 announcement describes the service as bringing external threat intelligence into its existing security operations.

What the initial service monitors

Credentials associated with customer domains

Ontinue says it identifies exposed credentials associated with monitored customer domains, then investigates their relevance. That distinction matters: the announced service is presented as more than an alert feed, but public materials do not specify the exact validation methods or guarantee that every exposure can be detected.

In its September 29 webinar, Ontinue demonstrated checking a leaked-credential finding against customer context and related sign-in activity. The example also showed an inbox forwarding rule. Marking the account compromised and revoking sign-in sessions were pre-approved actions in that demonstration; it is an example of a possible workflow, not evidence of a measured customer result. The webinar and transcript describe the scenario.

Lookalike domains

The other initial use case is finding and assessing domains that resemble a customer’s domains. Ontinue links this capability to risks such as phishing, fraud, and brand impersonation. A similar-looking domain is not automatically malicious, so the service’s assessment is relevant; the announcement does not say every match is treated as a threat.

How findings enter security operations

Ontinue positions analyst validation and investigation as part of the managed service. The webinar says findings are integrated into a dedicated Microsoft Sentinel table and can generate incidents that are triaged and investigated through the ION SecOps Platform and Cyber Defense Center. Customer escalation is governed by agreed rules and thresholds. The launch materials describe integration and workflow, but do not specify technical prerequisites or customer configuration steps.

Response actions depend on customer-agreed Rules of Engagement. Ontinue says approved actions may be taken automatically or subject to customer oversight. The webinar’s compromised-account and session-revocation example illustrates pre-approval; it does not establish that these actions are enabled by default for every customer. For suspicious domains, Ontinue says it can block associated indicators when appropriate.

What was planned, and what is not confirmed

In the September 29 webinar, Ontinue described file-leak monitoring, supply-chain risk monitoring, dark-web forum alerts, and domain takedown actions as Q4 plans, along with work involving additional threat-intelligence providers. Those statements were roadmap plans at the time of the webinar. The available launch materials do not establish that these features were subsequently released, so they should not be treated as capabilities confirmed at launch. In particular, takedown is not described as part of the initial service.

What the launch statistics do—and do not—show

Ontinue’s announcement says exposed credentials can appear on the dark web within 24 hours, but it does not identify the underlying report or methodology. This is not a guaranteed detection or exposure timeline. The release also says 19% of organizations continuously monitor for credential exposure and automatically remediate it, without identifying the underlying report. Separately, it quotes IDC’s Yogesh Shivhare as estimating that roughly one in three MDR customers globally lack dark web monitoring; the release supplies no report title, publication date, sample, or methodology. These are claims reported by Ontinue, not independently established benchmarks.

Price, availability, and evaluation questions

Ontinue’s announcement says the add-on was immediately available to ION MXDR customers as of October 6, 2026. Public launch materials do not state pricing, detailed coverage, onboarding requirements, service levels, or contract terms. The announcement directs interested customers to an Ontinue account manager or Cyber Advisor for those details.

For an evaluation, ask Ontinue to clarify:

  • Which clear, deep, and dark web sources are included, and which customer domains or brand assets can be monitored?
  • How analysts validate credential exposures and lookalike-domain findings, and what evidence is included with an incident?
  • How the Microsoft Sentinel integration works in the customer’s environment, including any prerequisites and responsibilities.
  • Which response actions can be automated, which require approval, and how Rules of Engagement and escalation thresholds are set.
  • Whether file-leak, supplier-risk, forum-alert, or takedown capabilities are now available, rather than still planned.
  • What the price, onboarding process, coverage limits, service levels, and contract terms are.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
