One-Netbook’s OneXGPU 2 is a real standalone external GPU and docking station that began China retail sales on November 1, 2024, at 6,199 yuan. It combines AMD’s 12GB Radeon RX 7800M with OCuLink and USB4 connectivity, display outputs, networking, card-reader expansion and an internal M.2 SSD slot. The key buying question is not whether the enclosure exists, but whether your handheld, mini PC or laptop can feed it through a suitable eGPU-capable connection.

Launch timeline and pricing

OneXPlayer first announced the OneXGPU 2 in August 2024, describing it as the first external GPU built around AMD’s Radeon RX 7800M, according to ITHome. Crowdfunding opened on September 27, 2024, with an $839 early-bird price and an $899 regular crowdfunding price (ITHome). China retail availability followed on November 1, 2024, at 6,199 yuan (ITHome).

International storefront prices are separate observations, not a single worldwide MSRP. The official OneXPlayer store displayed $960 for the listed new configuration on August 16, 2026, while a refurbished US-stock page displayed $799. Both can change with promotions, inventory, taxes, shipping and warranty terms.

These are AMD’s GPU specifications, not a promise that every host will deliver the same performance. The RX 7800M is a mobile Navi 32 design; it is not the desktop Radeon RX 7800 XT. The shared 60-compute-unit context is useful for architecture discussion, but the products have different power envelopes, memory configurations and platforms. AMD lists Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11 64-bit and Ubuntu x86-64 among supported operating systems (AMD).

Enclosure hardware

The OneXGPU 2 is closer to a portable graphics dock than to a bare desktop card. Launch coverage describes a magnesium-alloy chassis measuring approximately 229.5 × 175 × 43 mm, with air cooling, RGB lighting and an integrated 330W power supply. Reported weight varies by source: about 1,610g in September crowdfunding coverage and about 1,590g in November retail coverage (September report; November report).

Ports, host links and expansion

Reported connectivity includes:

  • OCuLink for a high-bandwidth external PCIe link
  • USB4 for broader host compatibility
  • One HDMI 2.1 output and two DisplayPort 2.0 outputs
  • USB-A
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • TF/microSD expansion
  • An internal M.2 SSD slot

OCuLink is generally the enthusiast choice when a handheld or mini PC provides it, because it is intended for direct external PCIe connectivity. USB4 is more widely available, but results depend on the host’s USB4 implementation, firmware, cable and driver stack. USB-C alone does not establish eGPU support.

The M.2 slot

The SSD bay lets one enclosure provide graphics, docking and game-library storage. Launch coverage confirms M.2 SSD support, but the available material does not establish the exact keying, supported length, PCIe generation, maximum validated capacity or SATA compatibility. Confirm those details in the manual or regional listing before buying a drive.

Storage may still require initialization in Windows Disk Management, formatting and a drive letter. Game launchers will not necessarily detect it automatically. A separate external SSD is easier to replace and troubleshoot and can be used without the eGPU, while the built-in slot reduces cables and device count.

Performance: what is claimed and what is proven

Manufacturer claims, not independent test results: OneXPlayer’s Japanese product page reports a 15,916 Time Spy score, a 42,949 Fire Strike score and up to 245% higher gaming performance when paired with a Ryzen 7 8840U system. The same page presents comparisons with the RTX 4070 Mobile and RX 7600M XT (OneXPlayer).

Those figures depend on the host processor, memory, power settings, cooling, driver version, connection type and display routing. Rendering to the built-in laptop or handheld screen can send additional traffic back over the eGPU link. A benchmark over OCuLink should not be treated as a forecast for USB4, and the quoted 245% uplift is not a universal result.

Compatibility checklist

  1. Confirm that the host has OCuLink or genuine USB4 support with PCIe tunneling; an ordinary USB-C port is insufficient.
  2. Check whether the host firmware and Windows configuration support external GPUs.
  3. Review the host maker’s graphics-driver page, especially for handhelds using customized Radeon drivers.
  4. Plan for an external monitor connected directly to the OneXGPU 2 if maximum performance or simpler troubleshooting matters.
  5. Verify physical space, cable routing, power-cord compatibility and the included OCuLink or USB4 cables for your regional SKU.
  6. Back up the system or create a restore point before changing graphics drivers.

There is no universal official compatibility list in the available launch material. Windows, BIOS, USB4, chipset and graphics-driver updates can alter eGPU behavior, so check both OneXPlayer and host-vendor support pages. If the internal Radeon driver and the external RX 7800M conflict, use the host manufacturer’s documented package first rather than mixing unsupported drivers.

Who should buy it?

Good fit

  • Owners of OCuLink-equipped gaming handhelds or mini PCs who want a substantial graphics upgrade.
  • Users who want one enclosure to combine an eGPU, desktop-style ports and M.2 storage.
  • Buyers who value 12GB of VRAM and can use an external display.
  • People comfortable checking imported-hardware warranty and support terms.

Weak fit

  • Systems with only uncertain USB-C support.
  • Buyers seeking the lowest cost per frame or desktop RX 7800 XT performance.
  • Users who do not need the dock or storage features.
  • Anyone requiring simple local returns, guaranteed driver support or strong regional after-sales service.
  • Buyers purchasing mainly for storage; a separate SSD may be cheaper and easier to replace.

Buying checks before ordering

  • Confirm whether the listing is new or refurbished and record the stated warranty and return-shipping rules.
  • Check warehouse location, regional electrical accessories and local certification requirements.
  • Verify whether OCuLink and USB4 cables are included.
  • Confirm the M.2 drive’s physical and electrical requirements from the applicable manual.
  • Price the complete setup: compatible host, cable, SSD and—if preferred—an external monitor.

A Japanese domestic listing showed 149,800 yen with region-specific support and accessory claims, but that pricing and coverage do not automatically transfer outside Japan (One-Netbook Japan).

Verdict

The OneXGPU 2 is most compelling as an all-in-one upgrade for an OCuLink-equipped handheld or mini PC: it pairs a high-power, 12GB mobile Radeon with useful display, networking, USB, card-reader and SSD expansion. Its value falls when the host is limited to uncertain USB4, when the buyer wants pure desktop-GPU value, or when imported support and warranty logistics are unacceptable.
