Choose the OnePlus Buds 4 if you use Android—especially a OnePlus phone—and want longer rated battery life, LHDC 5.0, IP55 protection, multipoint, and a lower stated price. Choose AirPods Pro 2 if you use an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or Apple TV and value seamless controls, Adaptive Transparency, Personalized Spatial Audio, and Apple’s hearing features. AirPods Pro 2 will play audio on Android, but Apple says their functionality is limited there.

Quick verdict

These earbuds are designed around different priorities. OnePlus positions the Buds 4 as a feature-rich Android companion: they support LHDC 5.0, offer a longer manufacturer-rated runtime, include dual-device connection, and have a stronger published dust-and-water rating. AirPods Pro 2 are the better system product for Apple users because their H2-powered features, device switching, transparency modes, spatial audio, and hearing tools are designed to work with Apple hardware and software.

Battery figures are not a controlled head-to-head test. OnePlus’s 11-hour and 45-hour figures use AAC, ANC off, and 50% volume; its ANC-on figures are 6 hours for the earbuds and 24 hours with the case. Apple’s figures are up to 6 hours per charge and 30 hours with the case. Different test methods, codecs, volume levels, firmware, and features can change real-world results.

Platform integration: the decision that matters most

Android and OnePlus phones

The Buds 4 are the more complete choice for Android. OnePlus lists Google Fast Pair, dual-device connection, LHDC 5.0, a 47 ms low-latency mode, and translation-related features tied to its own phones. A OnePlus handset is also the environment in which the company’s proprietary controls and software options are most likely to be available.

#1 Best Overall
OnePlus Nord Buds 3 Pro, Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds, Noise Canceling Earbuds, Deep Bass, Immersive Sound, Up to 44 Hour Playtime with Charging case, Starry Black
  • Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation: OnePlus noise cancelling bluetooth earbuds let you experience up to 49dB of active noise cancellation with a frequency range of 4KHz to block out distractions for immersive listening in any environment.
  • Titanized Diaphragm: The oneplus buds features a 12.4mm titanium-coated diaphragm delivers richer bass, clearer vocals, and a superior audio experience, enhancing every note and beat.
  • Basswave 2.0: Enjoy deep, irresistible bass and pristine vocals with Basswave 2.0 technology on OnePlus wireless bluetooth earbuds, elevating your music to new heights of clarity and impact.
  • Long-Lasting Battery: Play music for up to 44 hours with ANC off or up to 20 hours with ANC on, OnePlus Nord Buds 3 Pro ensures extended enjoyment of your favorite tunes without frequent recharging.
  • Rapid Charging: OnePlus earbuds offer up to 11 hours of playtime with just 10 minutes of charging, so you can quickly resume your music enjoyment on the go.

That does not mean every Android owner receives the same experience. LHDC support depends on the phone, operating-system implementation, and settings. If your phone does not support LHDC, the earbuds can fall back to AAC or SBC. OnePlus-specific gaming and translation functions may also be unavailable outside the OnePlus ecosystem.

iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch

AirPods Pro 2 are the natural fit for an Apple household. Apple lists support for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV, and the H2 chip enables the product’s Apple-focused feature set. Pairing, device controls, automatic switching, spatial-audio configuration, and hearing functions are designed around Apple’s operating systems rather than a generic Bluetooth connection.

The Buds 4 can still function as Bluetooth earbuds with an iPhone, but you should expect a less integrated experience. Basic playback and calls may work, while Android- or OnePlus-specific settings, advanced codec options, low-latency controls, and translation features may not be available.

Mixed-device households

For a household that regularly moves between Android, Windows, tablets, and other Bluetooth hardware, the Buds 4’s listed dual-device connection and broader codec support are practical advantages. AirPods Pro 2 remain usable with non-Apple devices, but Apple explicitly says functionality is limited. Their strongest conveniences—such as Apple-device switching and system-level controls—are most valuable when your primary devices are made by Apple.

Noise cancellation and transparency

OnePlus Buds 4 ANC

OnePlus lists real-time adaptive active noise cancellation with noise reduction of up to 55 dB. The Buds 4 use three microphones per side, and the adaptive system is intended to adjust to changing environmental noise. The 55 dB figure is a manufacturer claim rather than a universal measurement of how much noise every listener will hear in every frequency range.

Independent reviews were positive overall. SoundGuys scored the Buds 4 at 8.0/10 in its August 2025 review and highlighted ANC, sound quality, comfort, LHDC, and portability. Android Central’s July 8, 2025 review also listed the 55 dB claim among the product’s strengths. Fit, ear-tip seal, music playback, wind, and the frequency of the surrounding noise will all affect perceived cancellation.

AirPods Pro 2 ANC and Adaptive Transparency

AirPods Pro 2 provide Active Noise Cancellation and Adaptive Transparency. Transparency mode lets outside sound in, while the adaptive system is designed to reduce sudden or excessively loud environmental sounds without removing awareness of your surroundings. Apple also lists Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking and Adaptive EQ.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple does not provide a directly comparable “up to 55 dB” number in the specifications summarized here. Therefore, a published decibel figure alone cannot establish a winner. If you use an iPhone and frequently alternate between isolation and hearing your environment, AirPods Pro 2 offer the more integrated set of Apple controls. If your priority is the Buds 4’s stated maximum reduction and Android value, OnePlus is the more straightforward choice.

Battery life and charging

OnePlus Buds 4 figures

OnePlus rates each Buds 4 earbud for up to 11 hours of playback and the complete system for up to 45 hours with the charging case. Those numbers apply with ANC off, AAC selected, and volume at 50%. With ANC enabled, OnePlus lists up to 6 hours for the earbuds and 24 hours including the case.

This gives the Buds 4 a substantial endurance advantage on paper when both products are considered under their respective stated conditions. At higher volume, with LHDC active, frequent calls, gaming, or adaptive ANC working continuously, actual runtime will be lower.

AirPods Pro 2 figures

Apple rates AirPods Pro 2 for up to 6 hours of listening on a single charge and up to 30 hours with the charging case. Apple’s figure is also a maximum, not a guarantee for every use pattern. Spatial audio, calls, high volume, ANC behavior, and battery age can reduce the time between charges.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Charging convenience

The AirPods Pro 2 case supports MagSafe, Apple Watch, Qi, and wired charging. That gives Apple users several ways to recharge, particularly if they already carry an Apple Watch or MagSafe charger.

Reviews of the Buds 4 note that the case lacks wireless charging. You can still recharge it by cable, but it does not offer the same pad-based flexibility. If your desk, car, or bedside setup is built around wireless charging, that difference may matter more than the raw battery totals.

Sound, codecs, and drivers

OnePlus Buds 4 hardware and codecs

OnePlus specifies an 11 mm woofer and a 6 mm tweeter in each earbud, supported by dual DACs according to Android Central’s review. The listed Bluetooth codecs are LHDC 5.0, AAC, and SBC, and the earbuds use Bluetooth 5.4.

LHDC 5.0 can provide a higher-bandwidth Bluetooth path than the basic SBC and AAC options, but the benefit depends on whether your Android phone supports LHDC, whether it is enabled, and whether the connection remains stable in your environment. If your phone lacks LHDC, the Buds 4 still operate through AAC or SBC.

AirPods Pro 2 audio platform

AirPods Pro 2 use Apple’s H2 headphone chip and include Adaptive EQ. Apple’s documented feature list emphasizes processing, noise control, spatial audio, and hearing functions rather than publishing an expanded codec menu in the specifications summarized here. On an iPhone, the practical advantage is consistent system integration rather than choosing among Android-oriented codec modes.

  • PORTABLE DESIGN: Lightweight and compact buds are easy to carry wherever you go.

There is no controlled listening test in the available material that proves one model sounds better for every genre or listener. Ear-tip fit, source quality, equalizer settings, and the phone’s Bluetooth implementation can outweigh a specification-sheet difference.

Durability and everyday use

IP55 versus IPX4

The Buds 4 carry an IP55 rating. The first “5” indicates dust protection, while the second “5” indicates protection against water jets under the rating’s test conditions. AirPods Pro 2 carry an IPX4 rating: the “X” means no dust-protection rating is stated, and “4” indicates resistance to splashing water.

For workouts, commuting, and outdoor use, IP55 is the stronger published ingress rating. Neither rating makes the earbuds suitable for swimming, shower submersion, or deliberate immersion. Sweat, salt, soap, and charging while wet can still damage either product, so dry the earbuds and contacts before placing them in a case.

Comfort and fit

Comfort is highly individual because ear canals differ. SoundGuys highlighted Buds 4 comfort, while Android Central’s reviewer described the earbuds as chunky. That combination means the Buds 4 may fit securely for some users but feel bulky for others. Use the supplied ear-tip sizes and check the seal without forcing the earbuds deeply into the ear.

AirPods Pro 2 use replaceable silicone tips and a familiar stem design. A correct seal is important for both sound and ANC; a poor seal can make either model seem weak even when the electronics are working normally.

Controls, calls, gaming, and special features

Controls

Android Central found the Buds 4’s capacitive controls frustrating. Accidental touches or missed commands can be especially annoying when adjusting playback during a workout. Try the controls with the earbuds seated securely and configure available gestures in the companion software before deciding whether the behavior suits you.

AirPods Pro 2 use stem controls integrated with Apple’s operating system. The available material does not provide a side-by-side failure rate or a standardized control test, so the safest distinction is ecosystem: AirPods commands are most convenient when configured through Apple devices, while Buds 4 settings are aimed at Android users.

Call quality

OnePlus lists three microphones per side on the Buds 4. That hardware supports voice pickup and adaptive noise processing, but microphone count alone does not establish call quality in traffic, wind, or crowded rooms. The available reviews do not provide a controlled call-quality comparison against AirPods Pro 2.

  • SECURE FIT: Ergonomic design helps keep the buds snugly in place during daily activities.
  • CLEAR SOUND: Delivers crisp audio quality for music, calls, and media on the go.
  • EASY CONNECTIVITY: Simple pairing process allows quick connection to your devices.
  • PORTABLE DESIGN: Lightweight and compact buds are easy to carry wherever you go.

AirPods Pro 2’s H2 processing and Apple integration can be convenient for iPhone calls, but the supplied specifications do not state a microphone count or provide a directly comparable call test. Choose based on platform integration unless you can test both models in the places where you make calls.

Gaming and latency

OnePlus lists a 47 ms low-latency mode for the Buds 4. This is aimed at reducing the delay between an action and the sound in compatible gaming scenarios. The mode is most relevant to Android users and may require OnePlus software or a supported game.

AirPods Pro 2 are not documented here with a comparable latency number. They can be used for gaming on Apple devices, but the supplied specifications do not establish a numeric head-to-head advantage.

Translation and hearing features

OnePlus lists translation-related features for the Buds 4, with some functions restricted to OnePlus phones. Treat those tools as ecosystem features rather than universal capabilities.

AirPods Pro 2 list Hearing Test, Hearing Aid, and Hearing Protection features, in addition to Adaptive Transparency. Availability and suitability of hearing-related functions can depend on country, software version, regulatory approval, and an individual’s needs. They are not a substitute for professional medical evaluation.

What each model costs

Android Central reported a $129.99 U.S. retail price for the OnePlus Buds 4 in its July 8, 2025 review and noted Amazon availability at that time. That is a historical retail reference, not a guaranteed current price or promotion. The current AirPods Pro 2 street price is not stated in the available specifications, and both products can change price by region, seller, generation, and sale period.

Compare the exact model, included charging case, warranty, seller, and return policy before buying. A lower purchase price does not automatically make the Buds 4 better for an iPhone owner if missing Apple features would require replacing the earbuds sooner.

How to choose by phone and use case

Choose OnePlus Buds 4 when:

  • Your primary phone is Android, especially a OnePlus model.
  • You want the longer stated battery figures and do not mind charging by cable.
  • Your phone supports LHDC and you want to use that codec.
  • You need dual-device connection for a phone and computer or tablet.
  • You exercise outdoors and prefer the published IP55 rating over IPX4.
  • You value a 47 ms gaming mode or OnePlus-specific translation tools.
  • The reported $129.99 U.S. retail positioning fits your budget, subject to current pricing.

Choose AirPods Pro 2 when:

  • You use an iPhone alongside an iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or Apple TV.
  • Automatic Apple-device behavior and system-level controls are more important than codec selection.
  • You want Adaptive Transparency and Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
  • You may use Apple’s Hearing Test, Hearing Aid, or Hearing Protection features where available.
  • You want MagSafe, Apple Watch, Qi, and wired charging options.
  • You are willing to accept reduced functionality when pairing with Android.

For a mixed Android-and-Apple household:

Start with the device you use for calls, commuting, and daily listening, not the device used occasionally. The Buds 4 provide more platform-neutral value through their listed codecs, battery rating, and dual-device connection. AirPods Pro 2 make more sense when the main listener lives inside Apple’s ecosystem and only occasionally connects to Android.

Setup and troubleshooting

Pairing Buds 4 with Android

  1. Charge the earbuds and case, then open the case near the Android phone.
  2. Use Google Fast Pair if the prompt appears; otherwise open Bluetooth settings and select the Buds 4.
  3. Install or open the supported OnePlus earbuds controls on the phone, if available, and check firmware, gesture, ANC, codec, and low-latency settings.
  4. Enable LHDC only if the phone supports it and the connection remains stable. If dropouts occur, return to AAC or SBC.
  5. Pair the second device through the dual-device connection option and verify that switching works before relying on it for calls.

Pairing Buds 4 with iPhone

  1. Open Settings, choose Bluetooth, and put the Buds 4 into pairing mode according to the case controls.
  2. Select the earbuds from the device list and test music, microphone, and ANC.
  3. Expect basic Bluetooth behavior first. OnePlus-only gaming, translation, codec, and control options may not appear on iPhone.
  4. If the earbuds do not connect, forget the entry in Bluetooth settings, reset the earbuds using the case procedure, and pair again.

Pairing AirPods Pro 2 with iPhone

  1. Unlock the iPhone, open the AirPods Pro 2 case nearby, and follow the on-screen setup card.
  2. Complete the ear-tip fit check and configure noise-control, spatial-audio, and hearing options in the AirPods settings.
  3. Update the iPhone and connected Apple devices when prompted so the documented H2 features are available.
  4. For Android, open Bluetooth settings, place the AirPods in pairing mode, and select them. Basic audio should work, but Apple states that functionality is limited on non-Apple devices.

Common problems

  • Weak ANC: Try another ear-tip size and reseat the earbuds. A poor seal is a common cause of low perceived isolation.
  • Shorter battery life: Reduce volume, disable high-bandwidth codecs or spatial processing when unnecessary, and remember that ANC and calls consume more power than the maximum rating conditions.
  • Audio dropouts: Move closer to the phone, reduce nearby wireless interference, and test AAC or SBC instead of LHDC on the Buds 4.
  • Missing features: Confirm which phone is connected. OnePlus features may require a OnePlus phone, while AirPods features are restricted on Android.
  • Charging failure: Clean and dry the earbud contacts and case, then confirm the case itself has charge before replacing or resetting anything.

Bottom line

For Android value, battery endurance, LHDC, IP55 protection, multipoint-style dual-device use, and OnePlus gaming or translation features, buy the OnePlus Buds 4. For an iPhone-centered setup, AirPods Pro 2 earn their premium through Apple integration, Adaptive Transparency, Personalized Spatial Audio, and hearing tools. AirPods Pro 2 can play audio from Android, but their limited non-Apple functionality removes much of the reason to pay for them there.
