Official software support has ended for the original OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, 8T and first-generation Nord. Based on OnePlus’ published update policies, security support ended approximately in July 2023 for the Nord, April 2024 for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, and October 2024 for the OnePlus 8T. These are policy-based windows rather than guaranteed calendar-day cutoffs, and all four models are outside their normal support periods as of August 18, 2026.

OnePlus describes support in years, not usually as a guaranteed final day. Actual OTA availability can differ by country, unlocked or carrier-branded status, model number, firmware branch, carrier certification and staged rollout timing. The table therefore uses approximate month-and-year windows.

What “support ended” means
Major Android and OxygenOS updates
Major Android updates change the underlying platform, while OxygenOS releases add interface changes, system features and updated applications. OnePlus 8, 8 Pro and 8T reached Android 13/OxygenOS 13. OnePlus’ published OxygenOS 14 eligibility information did not include the 8 or 8 Pro, so Android 13/OxygenOS 13 is the safest description of their final major generation. The 8T likewise reached Android 13/OxygenOS 13 as its practical final platform generation.
The original Nord launched with OxygenOS 10.5 and received two major Android updates, ending with Android 12/OxygenOS 12. OnePlus’ launch announcement promised two years of software updates and three years of security updates: OnePlus Nord announcement.

Security patches
Security patches address newly discovered vulnerabilities in Android, the Linux kernel, modem software and vendor components. The 8-series estimates come from OnePlus’ published maintenance schedule, which grouped the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro and 8T with the flagship policy of three major Android updates and four years of security updates: OnePlus maintenance schedule. The original Nord’s three-year security period places its estimated endpoint around July 2023.
Other update channels
Google Play system updates are separate from OnePlus firmware and may continue to appear when available, but they do not restore full manufacturer support. Individual apps can also remain compatible for years after a phone’s last OnePlus patch. Warranty, repairs and customer service are separate from active software-security support; OnePlus’ current notice preserves existing commitments rather than reviving expired ones: OnePlus 2026 notice.
Which phones are included?
In this article, “OnePlus 8 Series” means the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8T. A Cyberpunk 2077 edition or a carrier-specific T-Mobile or Verizon variant may follow a different firmware branch or rollout schedule, even when its commercial name is similar.
The original Nord is separate from the Nord N10 5G, Nord N100, Nord CE, Nord 2 and later Nord models. OnePlus placed N-series phones on a shorter policy of one major Android update and three years of security updates; that policy must not be applied to the original Nord or vice versa: OnePlus maintenance schedule.

Support ending is not an automatic shutdown. A phone can still make calls, send messages, use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, take photos and run many current apps. Some Google Play system and app updates may continue independently.
The risk is cumulative rather than instantaneous. OnePlus is no longer expected to provide its normal fixes for newly discovered vulnerabilities, so exposure can grow as the Android, kernel, browser and vendor software age. Banking and authentication apps may continue to work, but their requirements can change based on Android version, device integrity and Play Integrity results. Do not assume compatibility or security indefinitely.
What owners should do now
- Identify the exact device. Open Settings → About device and note the model, Android version, OxygenOS version and build number. Menu names can vary by installed firmware.
- Check the installed update branch. Open Settings → System → Software update, or the equivalent update screen, and install every official update still offered for that device.
- Back up before making changes. Use Google backup, a computer or a local transfer. A backup may not include every app’s local data or credentials.
- Harden everyday use. Keep Google Play system updates current where available, use a screen lock and two-factor authentication, install apps from Google Play, and avoid random APK sites.
- Reassess sensitive tasks. If the phone handles banking, password management, work credentials or account authentication, an actively supported replacement is the safer choice.
Keep, replace or install a custom ROM?
Keep using it
Keeping the phone is reasonable when the hardware and battery are reliable, the device is not your high-value security anchor, all available updates are installed and you accept that manufacturer patches have stopped.
Replace it
Replace the phone when its last patch is several years old, essential apps require a newer Android version, battery health has materially declined, carrier compatibility is unreliable, or you cannot accept unsupported firmware. A battery replacement can improve runtime but does not restore software support. Repair availability and pricing vary by country and model; consult OnePlus Support.

A reputable, actively maintained custom ROM can extend software life for a precisely supported model, but it is not an official OnePlus solution. Bootloader unlocking may erase the phone, and carrier restrictions or an incorrect image can cause boot failure.
- Verify support for the exact model, region and firmware branch.
- Confirm the maintainer publishes recent security patches and installation instructions.
- Prepare a complete backup and a way to restore factory firmware.
- Expect possible effects on camera processing, Widevine DRM, NFC payments, VoLTE/VoNR and banking apps.
- Test banking, contactless payments and cellular functions before relying on the modified phone.
Projects such as LineageOS change their device list and maintenance status frequently, so eligibility must be checked immediately before installation.
How to interpret the dates
April 2024 for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, October 2024 for the 8T and July 2023 for the original Nord are estimated policy endpoints derived from launch timing. They are not proof that every regional SKU received its final OTA in that exact month. OnePlus’ global support resources and regional security-period pages are the appropriate places to check a specific model number: global software support and OnePlus UK Product Security Update Period.
OnePlus’ device-eligibility summary identifies the 8 and 8 Pro with OxygenOS 13 as their final listed generation, while its OxygenOS 14 rollout list excludes them: device eligibility summary and OxygenOS 14 list. That evidence supports “Android 13/OxygenOS 13 was the final major update,” not a claim that no exceptional build could ever appear.

Will the OnePlus 8 get Android 14?
OnePlus’ published OxygenOS 14 eligibility list does not include the OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro. Android 13/OxygenOS 13 is the final major generation identified for those models.
Does the OnePlus 8 still receive security patches?
Its normal four-year security-support window was approximately through April 2024, so it is outside regular OnePlus security maintenance as of August 2026.
Is the original Nord safe for banking?
Banking apps may still run, but compatibility and security requirements can change. Because the Nord’s estimated security-support period ended around July 2023, a currently supported phone is preferable for banking and authentication.
Are the Nord N10 and Nord N100 included in the original Nord date?
No. They are separate N-series models with a different, shorter update policy. Do not apply the original Nord’s dates to them.
