Reports instead describe a possible roadmap in which OnePlus moves from the OnePlus 15’s reported 1.5K, 165Hz OLED to an 185Hz OnePlus 16 and, potentially, a 2K panel running at 185Hz or 240Hz for a OnePlus 17-era phone around 2027. Those figures are forecasts attributed to Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station and reported by several outlets, not specifications announced by OnePlus.
What the OnePlus 17 leak actually says
Gadgets Now and Gizmochina describe a 2K display paired with either 185Hz or 240Hz as a possible OnePlus 17-generation outcome. The wording matters: these are roadmap-style projections, and no named OnePlus executive or official specification document has confirmed the panel, refresh rate or launch timing.

A 240Hz target would be technically ambitious. Panel suppliers would need to deliver that refresh rate without unacceptable losses in battery life, sustained performance, thermals or image quality. Until those trade-offs are demonstrated in a shipping phone, 240Hz should be treated as a possibility rather than a buying specification.

Will the OnePlus 17 have a 240Hz screen?
There is no confirmed answer. The strongest current claim is that OnePlus is exploring a 2K panel capable of 185Hz or 240Hz for a future generation. A final product could use 185Hz, 240Hz, a lower default mode, or a different combination entirely. OnePlus has not published a OnePlus 17 display specification in the reports available here.
The 240Hz figure also describes panel capability, not necessarily a mode that every application will use. The operating system, game engine, application frame-rate cap and thermal controls all determine whether a phone can render and sustain 240 frames per second.
Is OnePlus bringing back 2K resolution?
The leak points toward 2K as a possibility, but it does not establish a return as a product decision. The reported OnePlus 15 baseline is a 1.5K OLED at 165Hz. Moving to 2K would increase pixel count and could improve fine text, photos and high-resolution video, yet it would also increase the work required from the display processor and graphics hardware.
Resolution and refresh rate should therefore be evaluated together. A 2K/240Hz panel may need dynamic switching, a lower default refresh rate or aggressive power management to provide acceptable endurance. The leak supplies no battery-capacity, efficiency or brightness figures with which to judge that balance.

What “global” 165Hz could mean on the OnePlus 16
One Android Authority report, citing Digital Chat Station, says the OnePlus 16 could offer a “global” 165Hz refresh rate. In this context, global means the top refresh mode could apply to system animations and a broader set of applications rather than being restricted to selected software. That change could feel more noticeable in everyday scrolling than a small increase that only a few games can access.
A separate Android Authority report says the OnePlus 16 might instead use an 185Hz display. These claims are not yet reconciled, so neither should be presented as the settled OnePlus 16 specification. They do, however, show why software coverage is an important comparison axis: a nominally faster panel is less useful when the interface or apps are capped below it.

Scrolling and animation
When the interface renders at a higher rate, touch movement and animations can appear smoother and respond with shorter frame intervals. The benefit depends on the phone maintaining that mode; adaptive systems may reduce refresh rate during static content or when temperatures rise.
Games
Games must render at matching frame rates to show the advantage. A 240Hz panel cannot make a game locked to 60 or 120 frames per second display additional game frames. The graphics processor, game settings and sustained thermal performance are as important as the panel’s headline number.

More frequent display updates and the processing needed to generate more frames can increase power use. A future OnePlus 17 would need efficient panel driving and sensible adaptive controls to prevent a 240Hz mode from shortening endurance or causing throttling. No independent battery or thermal measurements exist for this unreleased device.
Image quality
Higher refresh does not automatically mean better contrast, color accuracy, brightness or viewing angles. Those characteristics, along with motion handling and calibration, could determine whether a 2K/240Hz panel is preferable to a lower-rate display with stronger efficiency or image quality.
Quick Recap
How to interpret the rumor before buying
- Separate confirmed products from projections. The OnePlus 15’s reported 1.5K/165Hz specification is the available baseline; OnePlus 16 and 17 figures remain leaks.
- Check coverage, not only the number. Ask whether system UI, browsers and the games you use can run at the advertised rate.
- Wait for battery, thermal and brightness measurements. A 240Hz mode that quickly throttles or drains the battery may be less useful than a stable 165Hz mode.
- Verify regional availability at launch. The reports do not establish which markets would receive a particular panel or refresh mode.
What is known—and what is not
- Known baseline: Gadgets 360 reports a 1.5K OLED and 165Hz refresh rate for the OnePlus 15 in 2026; Android Authority uses the same refresh rate as its reference point.
- Reported next step: Android Authority reports both a global 165Hz OnePlus 16 claim and, separately, an 185Hz possibility.
- Possible longer-term direction: Gadgets Now and Gizmochina describe 2K at 185Hz or 240Hz for a OnePlus 17-era phone.
- Not established: an official OnePlus 17 specification, final resolution, sustained refresh behavior, battery impact, game support, price or regional launch plan.
