What the different form factors mean in daily use
OnePlus 15: a conventional phone
The OnePlus 15 is the more straightforward fit if you want a single-screen smartphone. PhoneArena lists its display at 6.8 inches, battery capacity at 7,300mAh, and weight at 211g. Those capacity and weight figures are listing data; battery capacity alone does not establish how long a phone lasts in everyday use.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: a phone that opens into a larger workspace
When closed, the Fold8 Ultra has a 6.5-inch cover display; unfolded, its 8.0-inch inner display offers more room for reading, multitasking, and video. Both displays are specified by Samsung as supporting up to 120Hz. That larger canvas is the main practical reason to consider paying more: it changes how much content fits on screen, rather than simply offering another conventional phone display.
Samsung announced the Fold8 Ultra on July 22, 2026. Its August 6 launch release said sales began August 7 in select markets, with global expansion to follow; availability depends on country and retail channel. Samsung also reported that pre-orders for its new Galaxy Z lineup rose by more than 30% versus the previous generation. That is Samsung’s reported lineup-wide figure, not an independently audited sales measure. Samsung’s announcement; Samsung’s launch release.
Battery, weight, and the limits of spec-sheet comparisons
PhoneArena lists a larger battery capacity for the OnePlus 15—7,300mAh versus 5,000mAh for the Fold8 Ultra. That is a capacity comparison, not a direct battery-life result: screen size, software, network conditions, and usage all affect runtime. Tom’s Guide reports 14 hours 33 minutes for the Fold8 Ultra in its own web-surfing-over-5G battery test. Treat that as a publication-specific test result, not a guaranteed runtime for every user or network. Tom’s Guide review.
The listed weights are close: PhoneArena gives the OnePlus 15 as 211g, while Samsung specifies 215g for the Fold8 Ultra. Similar weight does not mean identical handling: the foldable has a different closed shape and thickness, while its larger opened display is part of what the extra cost buys. The figures alone do not establish which device will feel more comfortable in your hand or pocket.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the OnePlus 15 if you prefer a conventional smartphone and the lower listed base price matters more than having an unfolding display.
- Consider the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if you expect to use the larger inner screen for reading, multitasking, or media often enough to justify the listed $1,200 premium over the OnePlus base MSRP.
- Before buying either, compare live prices for the same storage tier, check availability and carrier compatibility in your country, and confirm local warranty coverage. For battery decisions, distinguish published capacity from a test result and from your own likely usage.
PhoneArena identifies the OnePlus 15 as released October 28, 2025; that date is secondary-source information. Samsung’s cited announcements provide the Fold8 Ultra’s 2026 announcement and market-dependent launch timing. PhoneArena comparison.
