Who could surpass Kaido by the end of the series? Monkey D. Luffy, Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard), Shanks, Roronoa Zoro, Dracule Mihawk, Buggy, and Loki are plausible names to consider—but this is a forecast, not a confirmed ranking or a claim that any of them is stronger than Kaido now.

What “surpass Kaido” means here
Kaido is the benchmark because official One Piece.com search material describes him with the epithet “strongest creature.” That supports using him as a formidable comparison point, but it does not establish a precise ranking or settle what “strongest” means in every context.

Monkey D. Luffy: the clearest endgame forecast
Luffy is the most straightforward candidate to discuss because he is the series’ central protagonist. That makes surpassing Kaido a plausible prediction about where the story could take him, not proof of a settled future result. The official anime catalog’s listing for episode 1072 refers to Gear 5, but an episode listing confirms only that the catalog includes a Gear 5 episode; it does not establish how Luffy compares with Kaido.
Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard): a likely rival, not a measured outcome
Teach’s importance as a pirate in the endgame makes him a credible name in a forecast about who could rise above Kaido. Narrative position can suggest that a character will matter; it cannot establish that character’s eventual strength or the result of a hypothetical fight.

Shanks: prominent, but not ranked by reputation
Shanks belongs on a list of plausible endgame contenders because his standing in the story invites questions about his eventual role. Without a substantiated comparison to Kaido, however, prominence or reputation cannot answer whether he will surpass the benchmark.
Roronoa Zoro: a growth-dependent possibility
Zoro’s case rests on future development rather than a confirmed eventual ranking. A character’s ambition or trajectory may make a higher ceiling plausible, but it should not be presented as an accomplished feat or as evidence that he is already Kaido’s equal.

Dracule Mihawk: plausible ceiling, unproven comparison
Mihawk is a reasonable candidate to include when discussing possible endgame combat strength. The distinction matters: a high standing within the story does not supply a direct, verified comparison with Kaido, and no final outcome is established here.
Buggy: status is not combat evidence
Buggy’s inclusion is the most speculative. His public status or reputation may affect how other characters respond to him, but those story effects are not proof that his actual combat ability could exceed Kaido’s. Treat him as a possibility driven by narrative uncertainty, not as a likely power-scaling result.

Loki: the least certain forecast
Loki is a tentative candidate because the available substantiated information does not support a detailed comparison with Kaido. A character’s potential to matter later is not the same as a demonstrated fighting record; any claim that Loki will surpass Kaido would go beyond what is established here.

- Separate feats from forecasts. A demonstrated event in the manga is evidence; a predicted future ceiling is interpretation.
- Do not equate story importance with strength. A protagonist or major rival can be central to the ending without a confirmed ranking against Kaido.
- Treat reputation cautiously. This is especially important for Buggy: public standing is not a measure of combat ability.
- Allow for unequal confidence. Luffy is a clearer endgame forecast than candidates whose future role or comparative evidence is less established.
For the primary material, VIZ lists the One Piece manga, including Volume 113 and Box Set 5: Wano to Egghead. The catalog is a route to the source story, not evidence that any proposed ranking is official.
