What is On the Rocks?
On the Rocks is set in the year 2635, after endless war has left clean water almost impossible to find. Following a convoy ambush, survivors take shelter with Uncle John in a derelict family bar. Their goal is to restore the business while surviving a toxic wasteland filled with raiders, mutants and scarce resources.

The game combines first-person exploration with bar management, crafting, survival and combat. Players scavenge materials, process dangerous liquids, brew drinks, serve customers, set prices, expand the building and improve the bar’s reputation. Mutated creatures can provide volatile fluids for brewing, while contaminated liquids may be purified into safe water or fermented into valuable beverages.

The updated demo supports online parties of up to four players. Friends use lobbies and invitations, then complete a ready check before entering a shared world. The host controls the world save, which records the group’s shared story and construction progress.

Jobs can be divided between players
Co-op is built around parallel work rather than four people repeating the same task. One player can hunt or gather supplies while another returns to the bar to brew and serve. Others can manage inventory, shop, complete quests, drive vehicles or prepare defenses. The group can regroup for combat when raiders or mutants threaten the settlement.
Communication changes with distance
When teammates are together at the bar, proximity voice chat supports natural conversations. Once the group spreads across the desert, walkie-talkie communication keeps players connected over longer distances. That split gives the bar a social hub while still allowing practical coordination during expeditions.
What you do during a session
- Explore and scavenge: Search the wasteland for ingredients, materials and usable supplies.
- Process liquids: Purify unsafe liquids into water or ferment them into drinks that can be sold.
- Run the bar: Serve customers, adjust prices, handle stock and improve the venue.
- Expand and build: Use gathered resources to restore and develop the derelict property.
- Advance the story: Interact with non-player characters and complete quests.
- Defend the settlement: Fight raiders and mutated creatures, alone or with the rest of the crew.
Because the same world includes production, service, exploration and combat, teams can switch responsibilities instead of following a single fixed class system. The host’s save preserves the group’s shared progress.

The demo lets players try the multiplayer structure before the festival begins, while the Next Fest window is expected to give the project a wider audience and more hands-on exposure. The Steam page currently lists the full game as unreleased and provides options to play the demo and add the title to a wishlist.
Why the co-op focus matters
Bar management is usually designed around a single operator, but On the Rocks treats it as a team activity. The four-player limit is large enough to separate responsibilities without turning the settlement into an anonymous crowd. A group can maintain a production chain at home while sending an expedition into the desert, then reunite when the bar needs protection or a major quest requires everyone.
The design also links its survival systems to the business layer. Scarce water affects both basic survival and drink production; exploration supplies the ingredients that make the bar profitable; and profits can fund construction and better preparation for future attacks. Co-op therefore changes how quickly and safely those systems can be handled, rather than simply adding extra combatants.

What is still unknown
- The Steam listing does not provide an exact launch date within Q4 2026.
- No full-game price has been published there at the time of reporting.
- The available announcement describes the demo’s co-op features but does not establish final content scope, performance targets or long-term progression details.
Those details may change before launch, so the demo should be treated as a preview of the multiplayer structure rather than a complete representation of the finished game.

Who should try the demo?
The demo is a natural fit for groups that enjoy assigning roles in survival games, managing a shared base and alternating between relaxed crafting and sudden combat. It is also useful for players deciding whether the bar systems are substantial enough to support repeated co-op sessions. Solo players can still evaluate the setting and core loop, but the headline feature of this preview is the four-person shared world.
As co-founder Aysu Ünal of 312 Interactive put it: “Running a bar has never been a one-person job, so bringing co-op to ‘On the Rocks’ felt like the natural next step.”
