Is the OAPC14W any good?
The available public evidence is not enough to give it an independent performance verdict. CHOICE has an exact-model listing with specifications, but its Expert Rating, cooling score, energy-efficiency score and high-fan noise result are restricted to members. The manual’s capacity and sound-power figures are manufacturer specifications, not substitutes for those comparative test results.

That distinction matters: a rated capacity alone does not establish how quickly this unit will cool a particular space, how efficiently it will do so, or how loud it will sound in a room. The evidence here also does not establish an appropriate room size or current value.
Is the Omega Altise OAPC14W discontinued?
CHOICE marks the model as discontinued. Its page displays $849, but the publication date is not shown and that figure is not evidence of a current offer. Omega Altise’s homepage currently displays other models; that does not rule out residual retailer stock. Treat any new-stock claim as something to verify with the seller, including the exact model, condition, stock and warranty terms.

What installation does it need?
Like other portable air conditioners that exhaust warm air, the OAPC14W must vent that air outdoors. The manual says to place it on a firm, level surface, leave at least 50 cm of clearance around it, keep the air inlets and outlets unobstructed, and use the window kit for the exhaust installation.

Before buying a used unit, check that the exhaust hose, connector, window-kit adapter and window kit are present, undamaged and compatible with the window where you intend to use the appliance. A portable unit is only practical if its hose can reach an exterior opening and the opening can be sealed adequately.

How should you handle drainage, filter care and safety?
Condensate and filter
The manual describes a self-evaporating system, but it also lists a drain opening and a full-tank shutoff. If the “Ft” high-condensate alarm appears, its troubleshooting instructions direct the user to drain the pan. Self-evaporating therefore does not mean you can assume no drainage will ever be needed.
The manual includes filter-cleaning guidance, but the available instructions do not establish a cleaning interval. Follow the OAPC14W manual rather than assuming advice for another Omega Altise model applies.

Electrical and refrigerant precautions
The manufacturer’s manual warns that R290 refrigerant is flammable, identifies the refrigerant circuit as sealed, and says it should be serviced only by a qualified technician. It also says not to use an extension cord or adapter plug. These are the manufacturer’s instructions for this model; consult the manual and a qualified technician for service questions.

- Identity and condition: Confirm the label says OAPC14W, and ask the seller to demonstrate that the appliance powers on and operates in cooling mode.
- Installation parts: Confirm the exhaust hose and all listed connectors and window-kit parts are included and usable.
- Water handling: Check the drain opening and ask whether the unit has shown an “Ft” alarm or needed draining.
- Purchase and warranty records: The manual states 36 months of manufacturer cover from purchase in Australia and New Zealand, subject to terms. For commercial or rental use, it states 12 months on parts and three months on labour. The manual does not establish whether cover transfers to a second owner or remains claimable on a particular unit; verify the purchase date, proof of purchase and applicable seller or manufacturer terms.
- Price and stock: Compare the seller’s current asking price with alternatives available in your area; CHOICE’s displayed $849 is not a verified current price.
