The Omata One analog GPS cycling computer is back under Silca ownership. The limited-run device keeps its distinctive physical hands, adds redesigned electronics and weather sealing, and is now hand-assembled in Indianapolis. Silca’s current listing puts it at $800, with up to 17 hours of battery life and a Chisela 3D-printed titanium mount included.
What Silca changed in the Omata One
Silca acquired OMATA and relaunched the Omata One after the original product was assembled in Oulu, Finland. The new units are hand-assembled at Silca’s Indianapolis facility.

The redesign covers the circuit board, battery system and outer housing rather than changing the product’s central idea: GPS and sensor measurements move real hands around a watch-style dial. Silca also revised the mounting cleat to work with Garmin and Wahoo interfaces.
Improved sealing
The rotating bezel now uses a triple-barrier lip seal. A Gore-Tex membrane covers the barometric-pressure sensor, allowing pressure measurement while adding protection against weather exposure. These are design changes; no independent durability test is established here.

A finite production run
Production is limited by the supply of discontinued Seiko components used in the movement. Silca CEO Josh Poertner described that constraint directly: “At Silca, we are obsessed with the intersection of beauty, precision, and performance. Omata [One] is a masterpiece of functional art. We acquired Omata because we believed it was a product that should continue to exist in this world. Sadly, it relies on a finite supply of legacy Seiko components; so, each unit carries the weight of rarity. By bringing hand-assembly to our Indianapolis facility, we are ensuring each of these stunning instruments is tested for lasting performance.”
How the analog GPS display works
The Omata does not show data on a conventional pixel screen. A custom Seiko-developed mechatronic movement drives physical hands on a machined 6063 aluminum housing. GPS records the ride in the background while the dial presents the measurements most useful during a ride:

That approach gives you glanceable information without a full map or menu-driven display. The cited product information does not describe live mapping or turn-by-turn navigation, so riders who need route guidance should treat the Omata as a recording and data-display instrument rather than a navigation computer.

“Up to 17 hours” is a maximum published figure, not a guaranteed runtime for every temperature, sensor setup or battery condition. The 83 g figure is the weight Silca lists for the current product, not a separately verified measurement.
Sensor pairing and phone compatibility
The updated Omata supports ANT+ sensors, so compatible heart-rate, cadence and power sensors can supply additional ride data. Bluetooth sensor compatibility is no longer offered in the Silca version, according to Bikerumor’s report.

Exporting your rides
Recorded rides can be exported as standard FIT files. FIT is widely used by training platforms and supports Strava workflows, allowing the Omata to remain an analog display while preserving a conventional digital activity file.

Who should consider the $800 Omata?
The Omata makes the strongest case for riders who value a physical instrument, minimal visual distraction and finely machined hardware, and who already use ANT+ accessories. It also suits cyclists who want ride files for later analysis but do not need a map on the bars.
The trade-offs are equally concrete: the $800 price is high for a computer that presents only a small set of live fields, Bluetooth sensor pairing is absent, Android support is not established, and the limited supply may make future availability uncertain. Riders dependent on live navigation, broad phone compatibility or Bluetooth-only sensors should verify those requirements before buying.
