Old School RuneScape has expanded the Grand Exchange so players can place offers above the old 2,147,483,647 GP ceiling, using coins and platinum tokens together. Jagex calls the change “GE Improvements: Beyond Max Cash”; it is an upgrade to the existing Grand Exchange, not a separate auction house. RuneFest 2026 is also underway at Birmingham NEC on October 3–4, with the Old School RuneScape Summit scheduled for October 3 at 19:00 UTC.
What changed in the Grand Exchange?
In its September 30 announcement, the Old School RuneScape team said players can now buy and sell items beyond the old 2.147 billion GP offer limit by combining coins and platinum tokens. The Grand Exchange handles the currency combination when the offer completes. Jagex’s Beyond Max Cash update describes the change as allowing offers “beyond the old 2.147b GP limit.”
This is still the Grand Exchange: existing rules, including item buy limits, continue to apply. The update does not remove the separate maximum size of an individual item stack, which remains 2.147 billion, including currency stacks.
How the new currency limit works
Coins and platinum tokens can be used together for a high-value offer. Jagex says the combined-currency system has an effective ceiling of about 2.149 trillion GP. That is the overall transaction capacity, not a new stack size: an individual stack remains capped at 2.147 billion.

Guide prices and tax
Jagex has raised the maximum guide-price adjustment from 5% to 20% and increased the update frequency from every 24 hours to every three hours. It says lower-volume items will also receive guide-price updates. Grand Exchange tax remains in place, with a maximum tax of 5 million coins per item.
Many interfaces now support values above 2.147 billion, but Jagex lists the loot tracker and ground items among the exceptions. The update announcement does not claim that every game interface has been adapted.

What to know before making a high-value offer
The update page identifies a known issue in which platinum may be converted to GP during Grand Exchange transactions; a coin placeholder may also remain in the bank. Jagex advises players who want to avoid currency shuffling to withdraw the exact amount of coins they need into their inventory before placing an offer. The company says it is working on improvements to the platinum-conversion issue, so check the live update notice for current guidance.
Jagex says the change is intended to let players handle expensive sales through the Grand Exchange rather than arranging face-to-face trades or using external sites. The company’s stated aims include safer transactions, clearer price information, continued GE tax revenue as a gold sink, and a convenient way to sell newly released items. Those are Jagex’s expected benefits; the announcement does not report independent measurements of their results.

RuneFest 2026 is taking place October 3–4
RuneFest is at Birmingham NEC on October 3 and 4, 2026. Because the event has started, this is a live schedule rather than a countdown to a future festival. Jagex’s September 29 RuneFest preview says the livestream begins on October 3 at 13:00 UTC.

Using the official RuneFest app
For in-person attendees, Jagex says the official app provides the schedule and merchandise catalogue, lets users book meet-and-greets, and includes the new IRL Questing feature. Login instructions are sent to the email address used to buy the ticket. The RuneFest preview introduces the feature with the line, “Your app is your portal to RuneFest,” and describes IRL Questing as a new addition.
