How ODYSS N1 is supposed to work
N1 pairs a wearable necklace with a companion app. ODYSS says it combines camera, microphone, motion, user-profile and memory information to detect eating moments, describe or estimate meal contents, and create reports and guidance. The aim is passive capture: users would not need to photograph or manually enter every meal.

Published hardware and compatibility details
ODYSS’s product page lists a split-body pendant and battery unit, a 120-degree camera, dual microphones, motion sensing, 64 GB of on-device storage, Bluetooth 6.1 and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. It lists compatibility with iOS 16 or later and Android 13 or later, and battery life of up to 18 hours. The company describes the necklace as splash- and sweat-resistant. These are published pre-launch specifications; ODYSS says final specifications may change.

What the accuracy claim does—and does not—show
ODYSS advertises “>99% eating event accuracy.” The company qualifies that figure as internal testing on pre-production units under controlled conditions, and the product page does not state a publication year. It is not an independently verified measure of how well N1 performs across daily meals, snacks, settings or users. ODYSS also says recognition can be affected by some foods, noisy environments and very short eating events.
A separate 2020 exploratory study of NeckSense, a different research necklace, reported an 81.6% F1-score for eating-episode detection. That result concerns another device and study context; it neither tests N1 nor provides a directly comparable benchmark. Read the NeckSense study.

ODYSS says users can physically disable the camera and microphone, that processing is filtered toward food-related information, and that images are deleted after processing while structured results remain in the journal. Is N1 available to buy?
ODYSS’s site offers early access and advertises a $1 VIP deposit reservation and a $199 VIP price, described as $100 off MSRP, with lifetime app access. These offers are subject to the company’s terms and may change. A deposit or reservation is not confirmation that a finished product is ready to ship.
At IFA 2026, Tom’s Guide described N1 as a concept and reported that no shipping date was known at the time. ODYSS’s About page, meanwhile, describes work moving beyond concept through development, prototype testing, manufacturing collaboration and delivery preparation. Taken together, the sources point to a pre-launch product, not a confirmed retail release. - Evidence: Look for independent real-world validation of meal recognition and portion estimates, rather than relying on a controlled internal test.
