Lifehacker reported on October 5, 2026, that Amazon had the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD for $1,099—the same price the article identifies as its launch price. The report compared that offer with a stated $1,299 MSRP, a $200 difference. Those are dated reported prices, not confirmation that the listing is still available at that price.
What the October Prime Day report says
The deal claim is specific to the base 13-inch M5 MacBook Air configuration with 16GB unified memory and 512GB SSD. Lifehacker’s October 5, 2026 report put that model at $1,099 on Amazon, matching the launch price cited in the article. It said the model’s then-current MSRP was $1,299, making the reported offer $200 lower.

The figures come from a dated report rather than a verified live Amazon listing. Price, stock, seller, and configuration can change, so check the listing itself before ordering. Confirm that it is the 13-inch M5 version with 16GB memory and 512GB storage; another size or configuration would not be the same comparison.

What the “RAM crisis” wording establishes—and what it doesn’t
Lifehacker’s report attributes the stated $200 MSRP increase to a “memory crisis.” The sources available here do not independently establish that the memory market caused the price change, so treat that explanation as the article’s attribution rather than a confirmed cause. The price comparison itself is also the report’s account; this article does not verify Amazon’s live offer or independently establish the model’s price history.
