Activision chief marketing officer Tyler Bahl says Grand Theft Auto 6 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4—not Nintendo’s reported The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake—are the two biggest games of 2026. The remake is still positioned for a major launch: it is reportedly due on November 5 for Nintendo Switch 2, exactly two weeks before GTA 6 arrives on November 19.
What Activision said about Zelda, GTA 6 and Call of Duty
Speaking to The Game Business, Bahl said: “Well, no offense to Zelda, but I think these are the two biggest games of the year.” The “two” were GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4, according to reports from GamesRadar and Beebom covering the November 2026 release calendar.

Bahl’s comment is an executive marketing judgment, not a sales result or an independent ranking. His wider point was that a blockbuster-heavy holiday could expand the overall games audience. He said more people might return to their Xbox or PlayStation dashboards, remove older consoles from storage and start playing again, creating “more eyeballs” for Activision’s release.

The dates remain reported schedules rather than a guarantee that no publisher will move a launch. Their spacing is what prompted comparisons to a shared cultural release period: Ocarina of Time would get a fortnight of attention before the industry’s largest expected open-world launch.

Why the remake can coexist with GTA 6
Different hardware audiences
Gupta’s analysis, reproduced by GamesRadar, argues that Nintendo did not need to move its date because GTA 6 does not run on Nintendo hardware and the two audiences overlap only partially. The remake’s Switch 2 exclusivity narrows its addressable hardware base, but it also reduces direct competition for the same console owners deciding what to play on launch day.
Two weeks of launch attention
A November 5 release gives Nintendo two full weeks for reviews, streaming, social discussion and gift-season sales before GTA 6 on November 19. Gupta described release scheduling as “a game of chicken,” arguing that Nintendo was willing to keep its lane because a faithful remake of a landmark Zelda title could establish momentum before the larger event.
The counterfactual: a same-day launch
Former Nintendo of America public-relations manager Krysta Yang, quoted by GamesRadar, said that if the remake launched on the same day as GTA 6 and proved faithful, she would play GTA 6. That is an individual opinion, not a forecast, but it illustrates the risk Nintendo would face in a direct same-day fight for players’ time and attention.
What the purchase-intent figures actually show
GamesRadar reports Circana estimates from 2026 that about 15% of US console and PC players intend to buy Modern Warfare 4. The same reporting puts intent for the Ocarina of Time remake at 10.4% across all US console and PC players.

Those percentages measure stated purchase intent, not completed orders, launch revenue or guaranteed conversion. The populations also matter: the Zelda figure uses the broad US console-and-PC audience even though the game is a Switch 2 exclusive. Mat Piscatella said the remake’s rate is higher when calculated only against people who could potentially play it on Switch 2. The two percentages therefore should not be treated as a like-for-like sales prediction.
Is Ocarina of Time really competing with GTA 6?
It is competing for attention, holiday spending and limited free time, but the available evidence does not establish a direct platform war. GTA 6 has the broader cultural conversation implied by Bahl’s statement, while the remake has a concentrated Nintendo audience and an established property behind it.

Historical expectations raise the stakes. GamesRadar reproduced commentator Aakash Gupta’s statement that GTA 5 made $1 billion in three days in 2013. That figure is quoted commentary rather than an independently verified publisher filing in the available material. Gupta also cited a DFC Intelligence projection of $3.2 billion in first-year GTA 6 revenue; that is a forecast, not realized performance.

Gupta called Nintendo the only company with a fanbase loyal enough to make that bet. Whether that loyalty converts into sales will depend on the remake’s fidelity, Switch 2 adoption and the final launch conditions.

Which game is expected to be bigger?
On the evidence available, Bahl expects GTA 6 and Modern Warfare 4 to be the year’s biggest games in overall scale. Circana’s reported intent estimate also places Modern Warfare 4 above the remake in the broad US console-and-PC population. That does not make Zelda irrelevant: its Switch 2-only denominator suppresses its all-player percentage, and its two-week head start gives Nintendo a separate window rather than a direct same-day contest.
