Choose Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch Online if you already have Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack and want convenient access to the Nintendo 64 game. Membership is part of the requirement
Nintendo 64 Classics access is included with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, rather than the standard membership alone. Access to classic games depends on an active membership, so this route is a subscription benefit rather than a permanent purchase of the individual game. When should you choose Ocarina of Time 3D?
Choose the 3DS edition if you own a compatible Nintendo 3DS-family system and want features built specifically for that hardware. Nintendo describes the edition as a graphical overhaul and lists a touch-based inventory, Circle Pad analog control, and gyro aiming. Selected 3DS models can display its glasses-free 3D effect.
What the graphical overhaul means for the decision
Nintendo’s own description says, “The graphical upgrades and three-dimensional depth breathe new life into the expansive world of Hyrule.” That wording identifies the purpose of the edition: it is a separately developed presentation of the game for 3DS hardware. Touch inventory and Circle Pad control

That can appeal to players who want inventory access on the lower screen and analog movement on the handheld’s control hardware. Know what the 3D feature requires
The glasses-free 3D presentation is not available across every system in the same way. On Nintendo 2DS and New Nintendo 2DS XL, the game displays in 2D. If the depth effect is a deciding factor, check that your model supports stereoscopic 3D rather than assuming every 3DS-family console does.
A compatible 3DS-family system is still required even when you do not use the 3D effect. The 2DS models can run the game in 2D, so the absence of stereoscopic depth does not by itself make the software unusable. It simply means that one of Nintendo’s advertised presentation features is not active on those systems.
Consider the edition, not just the screen
