First check OBS’s Stats window while the buffering happens. If Network Dropped Frames rises, OBS is struggling to send the stream to YouTube’s ingest server at the configured bitrate, or the connection is unstable. If it stays at zero while viewers report buffering, their playback conditions may be the issue instead. Viewer complaints alone do not prove that your Airtel upload is failing—or that Airtel is throttling you.
Tell sender-side drops from viewer-side buffering
These symptoms occur at different points in the stream. OBS sends video to YouTube; viewers then receive and play it over their own devices and networks. Diagnosing the wrong side can lead you to lower quality unnecessarily or blame an ISP without evidence.

- OBS network dropped frames increase: the path from your computer to YouTube’s ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. This is the first branch to investigate if OBS itself reports drops.
- OBS shows no network drops, but viewers buffer: their device, connection, or playback conditions may be responsible. A bitrate that is difficult for some viewers to receive can also limit playback reach.
- Rendering or encoding lag rises: note it separately from network drops. It points to a different OBS performance symptom and should not be counted as proof of an Airtel network problem.
The OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guidance, dated 2024-09-30, says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. Its separate Stream Buffering Troubleshooting article, dated 2021-06-09, notes that viewers can buffer even when the broadcaster is not dropping frames.

Capture evidence during an evening test
Before changing multiple settings, run a controlled test during the hours when the problem usually occurs. If practical, repeat a comparable test off peak. Keep the same OBS configuration, stream destination, and type of content so the results are useful to compare.

- Open OBS Stats: during the affected period, record Network Dropped Frames, Rendering Lag, and Encoding Lag. Capture the time and, if possible, note when each counter begins to rise.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room: run a private or otherwise controlled test if suitable. Include audio and movement similar to the real stream, then record stream-health messages and their timestamps.
- Note the setup: record OBS’s configured bitrate, resolution, frame rate, whether the computer is connected by Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and whether a VPN or network-prioritizing software is active.
- Repeat off peak: compare the observations with a test outside the affected period. A repeatable time-of-day difference is useful evidence, but does not by itself identify which network segment is responsible.
YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends testing the actual upload bitrate, using a representative stream with audio and movement, and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. An advertised broadband speed or a single short speed test is not a substitute for those checks.
Fix the connection path before replacing equipment
Test Ethernet and remove competing traffic
Connect the streaming computer to the router with Ethernet and repeat the evening test. This checks whether the local Wi-Fi link is contributing to drops; it cannot fix congestion farther along the ISP route. Pause other uploads and reduce unnecessary network use by connected devices while testing. If a VPN or traffic-prioritizing application is in use, temporarily test without it where safe and practical.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
OBS also recommends checking the router, cable, network adapter, security software, and drivers when connection troubleshooting remains unresolved. Start with these checks rather than replacing a router without evidence that local hardware is at fault. Airtel’s general buffering advice likewise includes Ethernet, closing unnecessary applications, and disconnecting devices that do not need the connection; it does not establish that Airtel caused a particular customer’s problem.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Choose a bitrate the connection sustains at the affected time
Lower the bitrate from the failing setting and repeat the same test. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as an initial rule of thumb for lowering bitrate, not as a guarantee of stable evening performance. Use repeated tests during the affected period to find a setting that remains stable. If necessary, lower resolution or frame rate as well, accepting the corresponding reduction in image detail or motion smoothness.

- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
YouTube’s current encoder recommendations vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, its published examples include:
| Video format | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not measurements of Airtel’s available upload speed or assurances that the connection can hold those rates at peak time. YouTube recommends CBR encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, with an interval no longer than four seconds. Check its current guidance for the full settings applicable to your codec and stream format.

Use dynamic bitrate only as a fallback
OBS dynamic bitrate can lower the outgoing bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, which may help prevent dropped frames from interrupting the stream. The trade-off is variable video quality. OBS warns that this can mask the symptom but does not repair the underlying connection issue.
Use the results to narrow down the cause
- Drops disappear on Ethernet: the local Wi-Fi segment was a contributing factor in that test. Keep using a wired connection if practical, then compare again at the affected time.
- Drops stop only after lowering bitrate: the former bitrate was not reliably sustainable under those test conditions. You may keep the lower setting or investigate why stable upload varies by time.
- Evening tests fail but comparable off-peak tests do not: this supports a time-related pattern worth documenting. It does not prove throttling or establish whether the issue is inside Airtel’s access network, elsewhere on the route, or at the destination.
- OBS has no network drops while viewers buffer: check the viewers’ playback resolution, devices, and connections before treating the symptom as an OBS-to-YouTube upload fault.
- Only YouTube tests fail while another destination works: this can narrow investigation toward the route or service path, but it does not prove the precise cause.
When and how to contact Airtel
If network dropped frames keep rising after wired testing, reducing competing traffic, and lowering bitrate, contact Airtel with evidence from the affected period. Include the dates and exact times, OBS logs and dropped-frame percentages, configured bitrate, YouTube stream-health messages, wired or wireless status, and the results of comparable off-peak tests. This gives support a specific pattern to investigate rather than a general report that streaming buffers.

A peak-hour pattern is a reason to investigate congestion, not proof that Airtel is throttling the stream. The Airtel QoS performance page does not establish an area-specific fault unless it provides relevant data for the location and period; a page without displayed report values cannot verify one.
