1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a 24/7 YouTube channel that loops prerecorded podcast episodes, cloud streaming is usually the simpler operating model. It can keep the playlist running while your computer is off. Choose OBS when you need live hosts, guests, scene changes, or hands-on production—and can keep a suitable computer and upload connection available. Neither approach guarantees uninterrupted streaming; both need setup and monitoring.
Choose based on how the podcast is produced
| Decision | OBS on your computer | Cloud streaming |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | Live-hosted shows or programming that needs real-time scene and source control. | Prerecorded episodes or a prepared playlist intended to play continuously. |
| Where playback and encoding happen | OBS encodes on your computer and sends the stream to YouTube. | The provider plays uploaded media and sends it to YouTube from its infrastructure. |
| What must remain available | Your computer, OBS process, and adequate upload connection. | Your account and service configuration, plus the provider’s operation; your computer can be off. |
| Main trade-off | More production control, but you manage the local system and connection. | Less local operation for prerecorded playback, but features, limits, recovery, and recurring costs vary by provider. |
Cloud-OBS describes a cloud OBS machine for a continuously played playlist, with one configured destination and 1080p/30 FPS; StreamHouse describes uploading videos, arranging a playlist, connecting a YouTube channel by stream key, and broadcasting continuously. These are provider descriptions, not independent tests or service-level guarantees. Check the current plan, storage, playlist controls, output, recovery behavior, channel permissions, and price before choosing.
What OBS requires for a 24/7 stream
OBS runs on your computer, so the machine must stay powered, the OBS process must continue running, and the internet connection must have sufficient upload capacity. OBS lists baseline operating-system and graphics requirements, but warns that meeting them does not guarantee successful streaming or recording. CPU needs vary with the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. The listed requirements are compatibility baselines, not a recommended computer specification.
- Windows: Windows 10 or 11 and DirectX 10.1-compatible graphics.
- macOS: macOS 11 or later and an Intel or Apple Silicon Mac.
- Linux/Unix: OpenGL 3.3-compatible graphics with X Window System or Wayland.
See the OBS system requirements and OBS Studio overview. They do not identify a specific PC model or a universal specification for a 24/7 podcast stream.

Set up OBS and YouTube’s encoder settings
- Prepare the content and rights. Use episodes, music, artwork, and other material that you own or are licensed to stream. A continuous broadcast does not change copyright obligations. Do not assume that replaying a recording makes it eligible for monetization; YouTube’s live-stream eligibility, copyright, and reused-content decisions are separate from encoder configuration. Confirm the channel’s current permissions and policies in YouTube before scheduling a broadcast.
- Configure the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream and use its stream key and server details in OBS. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP.
- Choose compatible encoding settings. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps, CBR, and AAC or MP3 audio. For H.264 video it recommends 5 Mbps at 1080p30 or 6 Mbps at 1080p60. The recommended keyframe interval is two seconds; do not exceed four seconds. These are platform recommendations, not assurances that a particular computer or connection will sustain them.
- Start with a private or otherwise controlled test. YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and motion before going live. Confirm the video, sound, and stream health in YouTube, then monitor stream-health messages during the broadcast.
- Plan for local interruptions. OBS offers a configurable automatic reconnect option. Enable and configure it if appropriate, but do not treat reconnect as a guarantee of uninterrupted playback; monitor the stream and be ready to restart or troubleshoot.
YouTube’s encoder recommendations can change, so check its settings page when configuring or revisiting a stream.
When a cloud playlist is the better fit
If the channel is a continuous replay of prepared podcast episodes, a cloud playlist workflow removes the need to keep OBS and a home computer running. For a service comparison, start with StreamNeo: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, streams to YouTube, and offers any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free.

Compare the real operating costs and limits
Do not compare a cloud fee with only the price of OBS. OBS’s workflow also depends on a computer and connection that can remain available; the right hardware depends on encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Cloud services shift playback and encoding off your computer, but their storage, output, number of destinations, playlist controls, recovery, and billing terms are provider-specific. Check those details against your channel’s schedule and library before committing. You can estimate upload duration with the upload-time calculator and compare local and cloud costs with the cloud vs PC cost calculator.

Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube reports poor stream health: Check the live health messages, available upload capacity, and whether the encoder settings match YouTube’s recommendations. Test with comparable audio and motion before returning to a public broadcast.
- OBS stops after a computer or network interruption: Confirm the computer is powered, OBS is running, and the connection is available. Automatic reconnect may help recover a dropped connection, but verify the stream in YouTube rather than assuming recovery succeeded.
- The stream key no longer works: Recheck the key and server details in YouTube Studio and OBS. If you suspect the key has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder configuration.
- A cloud playlist does not match the intended schedule: Check the uploaded files, playlist order, account configuration, and the provider’s stated storage and stream limits. Confirm the YouTube destination and current channel permissions with the provider’s instructions.
- A stream plays but raises rights or monetization concerns: Review whether you have rights to every episode element, including music and third-party clips, and check YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization policies. Encoder settings cannot resolve a rights or reused-content issue.
For a practical preflight, use the copyright safety checklist alongside YouTube’s current channel and live-stream requirements.
