These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 figures, checked against its guidance in 2026—not a bitrate proven suitable for every Indian internet connection. Test sustained upload at the place and time the stream will run; if 1080p30 will not hold with headroom, try 720p30 at 8 Mbps and test again.
Recommended OBS settings for a bhajan playlist
YouTube does not publish a special bitrate for India. Its encoder recommendations are organized by codec, resolution and frame rate; the bitrate you choose must also fit the sustained upload available where the encoder runs. The figures below are YouTube recommendations checked in 2026; the guidance pages do not state when their tables were published.

YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its SDR guidance lists Rec. 709 and 8-bit. For a simple supported starting point, H.264 is suitable; YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 for ordinary SDR video. RTMPS is recommended and encrypts the stream connection to Google’s servers.
Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Confirm the channel is eligible to stream. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. Check eligibility before configuring OBS.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and use its encoder workflow to obtain the stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: do not show it in screenshots, overlays or public instructions.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service (or a custom service if required by your workflow), and enter the server URL and stream key provided by YouTube. Choose RTMPS where available.
- Configure video output. In Settings → Video, set the output resolution to 1920 × 1080 and the frame rate to 30 fps. In Settings → Output, select Advanced output mode if needed, then set the streaming encoder to H.264, rate control to CBR, bitrate to 14000 Kbps, and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Encoder labels can vary by OBS version and hardware encoder; the intended settings are H.264, constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval.
- Configure audio. In Settings → Output → Streaming, set the audio bitrate to 128 Kbps. In Settings → Audio, set the sample rate to 44.1 kHz and confirm the stream is stereo. Check that the selected audio source is active and not duplicated.
- Use the lower profile if needed. If testing shows that 1080p30 at 14 Mbps cannot be sustained with headroom, change output resolution to 1280 × 720 and video bitrate to 8000 Kbps. Keep H.264, CBR, 30 fps, two-second keyframes and the audio settings above, then test again.
Match the bitrate to the connection
A configured bitrate is not proof that the connection can sustain it. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate. As a practical minimum based on that recommendation, a 14 Mbps stream calls for about 16.8 Mbps of sustained upload capacity available to the stream; an 8 Mbps stream calls for about 9.6 Mbps. These are calculations from YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance, not measured Indian ISP performance or guarantees.

- Run a sustained upload test from the actual streaming location, not just a brief speed test.
- Repeat at representative times if the connection varies or other people and devices share it.
- Test with audio and motion similar to the actual playlist. A static devotional image does not remove the need to sustain the configured bitrate.
- If the test is unstable, reduce the profile to 720p30 at 8 Mbps and retest; do not assume a nominal plan speed is available continuously.
The 1080p profile uses YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps H.264 bitrate at 1080p30; the 720p profile uses its recommended 8 Mbps at 720p30. Whether 1080p gives a visible benefit for a mostly static bhajan visual is a choice to assess on the actual material and viewing setup.
Loop bhajan files in OBS
OBS’s Media Source can load local video or audio files, and its Loop property repeats a file when playback finishes. The following describes the Media Source workflow; the cited OBS guide is dated January 11, 2022, so confirm labels against the OBS version installed on your computer.

- Prepare local bhajan media that you are authorized to stream. Add a scene in OBS for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add Media Source. Choose the local file and enable Loop in the source properties.
- For a sequence of tracks, assemble the material into a playlist-compatible file or arrange sources and transitions in a scene workflow that you can verify. Check the end of one item and the start of the next so there is no unintended silence, black frame or abrupt overlap.
- Play through the full sequence at least once. Confirm that the loop restarts cleanly and that audio levels remain consistent before leaving it unattended.
Test the broadcast before relying on it
- Start OBS streaming and inspect the YouTube Live Control Room preview before making the broadcast public.
- Check the picture, audio, stream-health messages and playback from a separate viewer device or browser.
- Let the stream run long enough to exercise the playlist transitions and loop restart. A short preview will not reveal every end-of-file problem.
- If continuity is important, test a backup encoder and recovery procedure. A single computer, power source or network connection can fail, so one OBS encoder cannot promise uninterrupted service.
- If you need a local archive, start local recording and verify that the file continues to grow during the broadcast.
Copyright and YouTube live-stream rules
Bhajan lyrics, compositions, recordings, performances and sound recordings can have different rights owners. Devotional subject matter by itself does not establish permission to stream a particular recording. Confirm that your permissions cover the specific material, the intended use and the relevant territories; the facts of a particular recording and the applicable Indian licensing position cannot be determined from YouTube’s platform guidance alone.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material that remains in the stream, it may replace the picture, interrupt the broadcast or terminate it. Even a licensed third-party work can be interrupted unless the rights holder adds the channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s terms also require providers to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws. Resolve rights and any needed allowlisting before scheduling an unattended stream.

Plan around archives and long sessions
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its help page states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube also warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.
A continuous 24-hour broadcast may meet the goal of keeping the channel live, but it does not guarantee a complete YouTube archive. If a complete video-on-demand copy matters, plan shorter sessions and record locally; monitor the local recording file while it grows. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the archive as well as keeping a local backup.
