To loop a store promo video in OBS while streaming to YouTube Live, add it to a scene as a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable Loop. For a typical SDR stream, start with H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a resolution and bitrate your store’s upload connection can sustain. Test from the actual connection before relying on the stream.
Set up a single promo video to loop in OBS
- Add the video: In OBS, open the scene you want to stream, select Sources, click +, and choose Media Source. Create or select a source, then browse to the promo video on the computer.
- Enable looping: Turn on Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS also enables Restart playback when source becomes active and Show nothing when playback ends by default. These affect playback when the source becomes visible and when it finishes; the Loop setting is what replays the file.
- Check playback: Preview the scene and let the video reach its end. Confirm that it starts again, and check that the picture, text and audio behave as intended across the loop.
For one promo file, Media Source is the straightforward choice. If you need to rotate several video files, use OBS’s VLC Video source instead. VLC must be installed for that source to appear in OBS; its Loop Playlist default is On. Confirm the playlist order and playback in a preview before going live. OBS Media Sources documentation
Choose YouTube encoder settings your connection can sustain
For a typical standard dynamic range (SDR) store promo sent over RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube’s baseline is H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube says the keyframe interval should not exceed 4 seconds. Its listed maximum frame rate is 60 fps. Use RTMPS when available; YouTube recommends it as the secure extension to RTMP. These are general encoder recommendations, not India-specific settings. YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance

| Output | Recommended video bitrate | Minimum video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
For SDR, YouTube’s advanced recommendations include Rec. 709 color space, 8-bit depth, progressive scan, square pixels and 128 Kbps stereo audio. Check OBS’s output and video settings against the format you intend to send. YouTube transcodes incoming live video into multiple formats for viewers. YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance
Pick resolution and frame rate by testing upload capacity
Run a speed test on the connection the store will actually use, then choose a bitrate with enough headroom for a stable upload. A nominal speed-test result alone does not establish that the connection will remain steady during a long stream. If OBS or YouTube reports an unstable connection, reduce the bitrate or choose a lower resolution or frame rate, then test again from that location. The right setting depends on the real store connection; YouTube does not prescribe a special bitrate for India.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live and test before publishing
- Check channel readiness: YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube live-streaming eligibility
- Create the stream: In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Enter the stream details in OBS: Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who obtains it could use it to send a stream to your channel. Do not share it or show it on screen. YouTube stream keys
- Start with a private test: Before the public stream, verify the Live Control Room preview and check the promo’s representative motion and audio. YouTube’s instruction is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” YouTube encoder settings and testing
- Monitor the stream: Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and confirm that audio and video quality remain acceptable. Test from the store’s actual connection rather than relying only on a test from another location. YouTube encoder settings and testing
- End it deliberately: When the promotion is over, stop the encoder. YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. YouTube live streaming
Check promo rights before looping it publicly
Before streaming, make sure you have the rights to use every part of the promo, including music, footage, images and any third-party material. A video file playing correctly in OBS does not establish permission to broadcast it. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-streaming rules for your content before publishing.
Troubleshoot a promo stream that does not loop or stay healthy
- The video stops at the end: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. Test through the end of the file in OBS’s preview.
- The source is blank or disappears: Check that the selected local file is present and that the source is visible in the active scene. Note that Show nothing when playback ends is enabled by default; for a single-file loop, verify the Loop setting rather than relying on end-of-playback behavior.
- A playlist source is missing: Install VLC so OBS can offer its VLC Video source, then check the playlist and its Loop Playlist setting.
- YouTube reports unstable stream health: Reduce the video bitrate or output resolution/frame rate to a level the store connection can sustain, then retest. Check for upload use by other devices and applications during the test.
- YouTube has no preview or receives no video: Recheck the stream URL and key copied into OBS. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key.
- Picture works but audio is wrong: Preview the entire clip, including its start and end, and inspect OBS audio meters and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before making the stream public.
