For an OBS stream intended to run around the clock on BSNL, start with YouTube’s conservative encoder baseline: H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC audio. Set the resolution and bitrate only after checking the stable upload speed at the streaming computer’s location; a BSNL plan’s advertised download speed does not tell you how much upload capacity the stream can rely on.
Recommended OBS starting settings
These settings prioritize broad compatibility. YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1 video, but H.264 is the conservative choice for a first setup. In OBS, open Settings → Output, set Output Mode to Advanced, then configure the streaming encoder. OBS labels may vary by version and encoder.
| Setting | Starting value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Video encoder | H.264 | YouTube supports H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1; H.264 is a broad-compatibility baseline. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live encoding. |
| Bitrate | Choose from the table below, then verify by testing | The target must be sustainable on your actual upload connection. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. |
| Audio encoder | AAC (or MP3) | Both are listed by YouTube. Its recommended stereo audio settings are AAC, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps. |
| Streaming protocol | RTMPS if available | YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS; it recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. |
For audio, set stereo AAC to 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps for YouTube’s recommended stereo configuration. If your OBS encoder offers a preset or profile selection, use a stable H.264 option your computer can encode continuously; avoid changing multiple encoder options at once while diagnosing a connection problem.
Choose resolution and bitrate from sustained upload
YouTube’s H.264 guidance gives minimum and recommended bitrates for common resolutions. These are platform values, not a guarantee that a BSNL line will sustain a given rate. Use them as targets only after testing upload stability, and leave capacity for variation and other network use.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Output | YouTube H.264 minimum | YouTube H.264 recommended | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 480p30 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps | A lower-resolution option when upload capacity is constrained. |
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | A practical lower-motion option if measured upload cannot reliably support a higher target. |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | Consider when smoother motion matters and the tested connection has adequate headroom. |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | Higher detail at 30 fps, provided upload remains stable at the selected bitrate. |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps | More motion detail; it calls for more bitrate capacity than 1080p30. |
For static or slow-moving programming, 30 fps may be adequate; choose 60 fps where motion detail matters. If the tested upload cannot sustain the selected bitrate with headroom, reduce the bitrate and, if needed, the resolution or frame rate. Do not treat a single speed-test peak as an all-day rate. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guarantee; long-running streams need room for network variation and household traffic.
Test the BSNL connection before going live
- Measure at the streaming location. Test upload where the OBS computer will run, preferably at different times. Judge the stable upload rate, not advertised download speed.
- Check the exact BSNL circle and plan. Verify current upload terms, FUP allowance, and post-FUP speed for your own connection. Plan terms differ by circle and can change.
- Choose a conservative starting output. Select a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate the observed connection can support with headroom.
- Run a private or unlisted preflight. Use representative motion and audio, then watch OBS statistics for dropped frames and YouTube’s stream health messages. YouTube specifically advises testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream.
- Adjust one variable at a time. If dropped frames or poor stream health occur, reduce bitrate first, test again, and lower resolution or frame rate if needed.
For YouTube, create or select the live stream in YouTube Studio, copy its stream key, and enter it in OBS under Settings → Stream with YouTube as the service. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it or show it in a recording. Use a private or unlisted test broadcast before scheduling a public continuous stream.

Account for BSNL data limits and post-FUP speed
A continuous stream consumes substantial data. The video payload alone works out to about 10.8 decimal GB per 24 hours at 1 Mbps, before protocol overhead or additional audio; at 5 Mbps it is about 54 GB per day. Calculation: bitrate × 86,400 seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000, using decimal gigabytes. Compare the expected usage with your plan’s current FUP and confirm what happens when it is reached.
As an example limited to Chennai Circle, a BSNL plan sheet marked updated 2025-10-01 lists Fibre Basic at 60 Mbps up to 3,300 GB FUP and 4 Mbps after FUP; Fibre Basic Plus at 100 Mbps up to 4,000 GB and 4 Mbps after FUP; and Fibre Value Plus at 150 Mbps up to 5,000 GB and 10 Mbps after FUP. These are Chennai examples, not nationwide terms or a statement of what your line currently receives. Check your circle’s current plan details with BSNL.

Troubleshoot dropped frames and unstable stream health
- OBS reports dropped frames: OBS says this can mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Lower bitrate to a level supported by stable upload and retest.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: Review the message, verify bitrate and encoder settings, then repeat a realistic test. Reduce output demands if the connection cannot sustain them.
- The bitrate looks fine in a speed test but fails later: A one-time result does not establish sustained capacity. Test at different times and allow for normal variation and other household traffic.
- Problems persist after reducing bitrate: OBS recommends trying another server and checking for network software that deprioritizes OBS. Its troubleshooting guidance also discusses IPv4/IPv6 configuration. Change one setting at a time and restore defaults if it does not help.
- The stream stops entirely: Check OBS, the local network, power and computer state, router status, YouTube stream health, and whether a connection or device restart occurred. A 24/7 label is not an uptime guarantee; BSNL and platform interruptions remain possible.
- Confirm service terms: Check your local BSNL circle’s current plan, FUP, and post-FUP speed. BSNL lists 1800-4444 for Bharat Fibre, broadband, and landline queries.
Copyright and YouTube channel rules still apply
OBS settings do not grant rights to the video, music, or other material in a stream. Use content you own or have permission to broadcast, and review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream rules before leaving a channel live continuously. Reused or repetitive programming can also raise monetization-policy issues independently of whether the stream is technically stable. A private test checks delivery; it does not establish that content is cleared for public broadcast or monetization.
