YouTube’s encoder guidance accessed in 2026 lists 4 Mbps for H.264 at 240p–720p and 30 fps; it also recommends leaving 20% upload headroom. Those settings are a starting point, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
Before you build the OBS stream
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Confirm live streaming is enabled in YouTube Studio before configuring OBS. YouTube’s stream key is a credential that allows an encoder to send video to the channel: keep it private, and reset it if it is exposed.

Clear rights in every part of the program
The Quranic text being scripture does not by itself make a particular recording free to rebroadcast. Check permissions for the reciter’s performance and recording, and separately for any translation, calligraphy, background image, or other third-party material. India’s Copyright Act recognizes performer’s rights and broadcast reproduction rights. Its listed exception concerning performance or communication during a bona fide religious ceremony does not establish that a continuous public YouTube playlist automatically qualifies.

A match may trigger a warning or placeholder, and leaving the content in place can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the channel is not on the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. Get written permission that covers live online streaming, relevant territories, archiving and monetization as applicable; if the owner uses Content ID, ask about allowlisting your channel.

Build a simple OBS scene and choose how to loop the recitation
Use a rights-cleared still image or other visual and a local recording source. OBS supports common audio formats such as MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV, as well as video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM. Source labels and options can vary slightly between OBS versions.
One recording: Media Source with Loop
- In OBS, create or select a scene. In the Sources dock, select + and add an Image source for the cleared still visual.
- Select + again and add Media Source. Name it, choose the local file and enable Loop. Use this for a single supported audio or video file.
- Arrange sources so the static image is visible in the preview. If the media file has video, decide whether that video is intended to appear; an image source placed above it will cover it. Check that the recording’s audio meter moves when playback starts.
- Use OBS preview and headphones to check that the intended image and sound are both present before proceeding.
Several recordings: VLC Video playlist with Loop Playlist
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS. OBS’s VLC Video source will not appear unless VLC is installed.
- In the scene’s Sources dock, select +, add VLC Video, then add the recording files to its playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties. Keep the still image visible in the scene, and check the preview and audio meters while the playlist changes files.
- Test the transition between every adjacent pair of recordings. Listen for silence, abrupt cuts, clipping or unintended gaps, including at the point where the final file returns to the first.
Choose Media Source when one file is enough; use VLC Video when you need multiple files to rotate. For a playlist, confirm that the VLC source appears in OBS and that it actually cycles through the files before scheduling a long stream.

Set OBS output for YouTube
Video and encoder
- Open Settings → Video. Set the output resolution to a resolution the connection can sustain. For a static-image audio program, 30 fps is a sensible starting point; the image does not need a high frame rate.
- Open Settings → Output and configure the streaming encoder for H.264 with CBR rate control. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- For H.264 at 240p–720p and 30 fps, YouTube’s published encoder table recommends 4 Mbps. Treat that as a reference for this range, not a universal setting: YouTube’s recommendations vary with codec, resolution and frame rate, and the chosen output must be supportable by your connection.
Audio
Use AAC or MP3 encoding. YouTube’s advanced encoder recommendations list 44.1 kHz for stereo audio and 128 Kbps for stereo. Keep OBS’s audio sample rate and output path consistent with the source material, then listen to a private or unlisted test for silence, clipping, abrupt transitions and gaps.
Check upload capacity before choosing the bitrate
Measure upload speed on the same network and under conditions similar to the planned stream. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. A speed test taken while the connection is otherwise idle may overstate what remains available when other people or devices are using it. If the connection cannot hold the chosen bitrate with headroom, lower the stream settings and test again rather than relying on a best-case speed test.

Connect OBS to YouTube and test the full loop
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and select encoder mode.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select the YouTube service, and enter the stream URL and key supplied by YouTube. Use RTMPS where available: YouTube recommends it for encrypted transport. Do not share the key publicly.
- Start a private or unlisted test stream. Check the YouTube preview, stream-health messages, audio and video quality, and access from the channel or watch page and a mobile device.
- Let the test run long enough to hear the full playlist cycle, including the return from its last item to its first. Check that OBS still has the expected media source and audio after playback transitions.
- Before treating the setup as an ongoing broadcast, test restart behavior and check the computer’s thermals, available storage, power and network. Keep monitoring stream health and messages during operation.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real program and continuously monitoring quality. Its guidance does not specify an OBS configuration that guarantees an uninterrupted multi-day stream. Treat 24/7 as an operating goal: a correct encoder setup cannot prevent a power cut, computer failure or network disruption.

- YouTube shows no incoming video: Confirm OBS is sending to the intended YouTube stream, the server URL and stream key are correct, and the channel is eligible for live streaming. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- OBS preview works but YouTube reports poor stream health: Compare the total bitrate with upload capacity under real network use. Restore YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom by lowering the bitrate or reducing competing network traffic, then test again.
- The image is visible but there is no recitation audio: Check that the correct file is loaded, playback is active, OBS’s audio meter responds, and the output path and sample rate match the source. Listen to the test stream, not just the local preview.
- A playlist stops after one file or VLC Video is missing: Check that Loop Playlist is enabled. If VLC Video is absent from the Sources menu, install VLC and reopen OBS.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright warning or placeholder: Check the rights for the flagged recording and visuals. If the material is licensed, contact the rights owner about YouTube Content ID allowlisting; a license alone may not prevent interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.
- The stream fails after running for a long time: Check network stability, power, computer thermals, free storage and whether the media source or playlist continued correctly. A short successful test cannot establish that a local computer and connection will stay reliable indefinitely.
