For a static-artwork Malayalam music stream, start with H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps, and a resolution and bitrate your computer and internet connection can sustain. For example, YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p30 or 4 Mbps for 720p30. Those settings do not grant music rights: clear every track for livestreaming and, if it is licensed third-party music, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel in Content ID before going live.
Start with settings your computer and connection can sustain
YouTube’s encoder recommendations allow H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video at up to 60 frames per second. For a straightforward OBS setup, H.264 is a practical starting point if your encoder supports it. Use CBR (constant bitrate) and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube says it should not exceed 4 seconds. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection will hold a 24/7 broadcast.

For a mostly static playlist visual, 30 fps is usually a sensible starting point. More frames do not make the music sound better, and a static image rarely needs 60 fps. Choose resolution and bitrate based on how much detail the artwork needs, the encoder your computer can run reliably, and your measured upload capacity.
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 4 Mbps | A lower-load option if the visual is simple or the connection has less spare capacity. |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps | Usually unnecessary for static artwork; consider it only if your visual includes motion that benefits from 60 fps. |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | A reasonable starting point for clear artwork when the computer and connection are stable. |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | Use only if the visual design benefits from the higher frame rate and your setup can sustain it. |
For stereo audio, YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. Match the encoder and audio source to a stable stereo output rather than assuming that higher audio settings will compensate for a poor source or an unstable stream.

Allow upload headroom
YouTube recommends upload bandwidth at least 20% higher than the total stream bitrate. That margin helps leave room for normal network variation. Test using audio and video similar to the actual show, and judge stability from the stream preview and health indicators—not from a speed test alone. If the connection struggles, reduce output bitrate or resolution and test again.
Set up OBS and the YouTube stream
Exact OBS menu names and encoder choices depend on your OBS version, operating system, and available CPU or GPU encoder. The settings below identify what to configure without assuming that every computer has the same encoder or can sustain the same output.

- Confirm eligibility first. YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; its current getting-started guidance sets a minimum age of 16. Check the channel’s status in YouTube Studio before preparing a continuous broadcast. YouTube: Get started with live streaming.
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Choose the intended visibility, latency, DVR, and auto-start or auto-stop options for the show. Lower latency can increase playback buffering; for a playlist that does not depend on real-time audience interaction, it may not be worth that trade-off. YouTube: Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- Copy the stream URL and key into OBS. Use the URL and stream key YouTube provides for that broadcast. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
- Configure video output. Select a supported codec, CBR, the resolution and frame rate appropriate for the playlist visual, a bitrate supported by your upload connection, and a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube transcodes streams for playback at different formats; OBS’s guidance recommends consistent keyframe intervals to help playback quality transition smoothly. OBS: Streaming with hardware encoders.
- Configure audio output. Set stereo audio to 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps as YouTube recommends, then verify that the music source is actually routed into the stream and is neither silent nor distorted.
- Test before making the stream public. Start with representative audio and video, check the Live Control Room preview, inspect stream health and messages, and listen to the output. Confirm the public or private setting and the intended replay behavior before launch. YouTube: Streaming tips.
Clear Malayalam music for the livestream before you start
Owning an audio file, buying a music subscription, or finding a song online does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it. Confirm that the rights you have cover the actual Malayalam tracks, live transmission on YouTube, relevant territories, and any replay or archive. The applicable permissions depend on the repertoire and license terms; YouTube’s platform guidance does not determine whether a particular catalog is cleared.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the content continues, the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated. A license does not necessarily prevent this: YouTube advises licensed streamers to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. Its guidance says: “If you’ve licensed third-party content to use in your stream, ask the owner of the content to add your channel to their allowlist through Content ID.” YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams.

- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.

YouTube’s livestream terms also require the provider to represent that they have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. Check the terms for your specific catalog and intended use rather than assuming a permission for one use covers all uses. YouTube: Livestream terms and conditions.
If you keep a replay, verify that your license covers the archived video too. YouTube notes that Content ID claims may be placed on an archived livestream after it ends. Its encoder setup guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; a 24/7 broadcast exceeds that period, so do not assume it will produce one complete replay. Check current Studio behavior and archive options before relying on a recording. YouTube: Set up your encoder for live streaming.

Operate a 24/7 stream as an ongoing system
A successful start proves only that the stream began. For continuous playback, verify that the playlist source, encoder, computer, and network keep running, and arrange regular checks of the live output. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality, stream health, and messages. Decide in advance who will check the broadcast and what they will do if the encoder or internet connection fails; OBS and YouTube settings alone do not establish an automatic backup or failover.
YouTube’s recommendations cover stream setup, testing, and monitoring, but they do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. A long-running stream needs a realistic plan for supervision and recovery, not just a saved preset.
