Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2: Best Settings for Clearer Performance and Controls

The short answer: you cannot switch Oblivion Remastered between a performance preset and a visual-quality preset on Nintendo Switch 2. Bethesda lists 900p at 30 FPS for handheld play and 1080p at 30 FPS when docked, with neither mode offering a “Prioritize Performance” or “Prioritize Visuals” option. The useful adjustments are input settings: Mouse Mode, Motion Control, motion-layout swapping, bow aiming, and sensitivity controls. If the picture became blurry, ghosted, or flickered after Update 1.1, Bethesda has documented the reports but has not published a confirmed settings-based fix.

What Switch 2 performance settings actually exist?

Bethesda’s Nintendo Switch 2 FAQ describes two platform targets rather than selectable graphics presets. Handheld mode is listed at 900p and 30 FPS; docked mode is listed at 1080p and 30 FPS. These are Bethesda’s stated targets for the Switch 2 version, not independent measurements of every scene or a guarantee that every moment will hold the stated frame rate.

Play context Bethesda-listed target What you can change
Handheld 900p at 30 FPS Input configuration, motion mapping, mouse options and bow-aim method
Docked 1080p at 30 FPS Input configuration, motion mapping and mouse options

There is no in-game toggle that trades resolution for a higher frame rate. Bethesda’s FAQ answers the question about “Prioritize Performance” and “Prioritize Visuals” modes with: “No, neither mode is available.” Consequently, changing between handheld and docked play is the only documented way to move between the two listed display targets. It is not a graphics menu choice, and buying a different edition does not create another rendering mode.

What the 30 FPS target means

A 30 FPS target describes the intended update rate for the platform configuration. It should not be presented as a laboratory benchmark or as proof that every area, combat encounter or loading transition maintains exactly 30 FPS. Bethesda has not published an independent Switch 2 performance test or a scene-by-scene frame-time study for this version.

Dragons Dogma 2: Dark Arisen - Nintendo Switch 2
  • Relic Expedition Cycle – Throughout their journey in the kingdom of Norgan, the Arisen must unearth and appraise forgotten relics to unlock powerful new weapons and skills.
  • New Dungeon Challenges – The 12 freshly uncovered Lost Rites dungeons house trials designed by the Pathfinder to sharpen the Arisen’s skills and recover rare equipment once held by past Arisen that now lay dormant.
  • Deeper Character Customization – New tattoo and hair options have been added to the already robust character creation tool in Dragon’s Dogma 2 so Arisen and Pawns can have even deeper personalization.
  • Now on Nintendo Switch 2 – Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen brings the classic fantasy world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen Expansion to the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time.
  • Pre-order Bonuses – The Norgan Fashion Set - Northern Attire will be available as a pre-order bonus, which can be accessed via in-game storage at launch.

Why there is no settings recipe for a higher frame rate

On many games, a performance menu lets you lower resolution, shadows or other effects to pursue a faster refresh. That is not how this Switch 2 release is documented. Bethesda provides the handheld and docked targets, but no user-facing resolution slider, preset selector or frame-rate switch. The practical choice is therefore where and how you play rather than which rendering preset you select.

Handheld play uses the lower listed resolution because the console is driving its built-in display; docked play uses the higher listed target for an external screen. Moving the console to a dock does not unlock a hidden “quality” mode, and returning to handheld does not activate a hidden “performance” mode. Both configurations remain 30 FPS targets.

Recommended setup by play style

For docked play

  • Expect the published 1080p/30 FPS target.
  • Use the standard controller layout unless you specifically want motion input or a detached-controller mouse setup.
  • Do not spend time looking for a performance or visual-priority selector; the Switch 2 FAQ says neither exists.
  • If you use a television, judge the game and the display separately. A TV’s own sharpening or motion processing can change how artifacts appear, but it does not change the game’s internal target.

For handheld play

  • Expect the published 900p/30 FPS target.
  • If you want gyro bow aiming, handheld mode supports aiming through movement of the entire console.
  • Keep Motion Control off if you prefer conventional sticks and buttons; it is disabled by default.
  • Remember that whole-console aiming means moving the screen as well as the controls. It is best used for small corrections after the stick has handled a larger turn.

For tabletop or detached Joy-Con play

Mouse Mode requires both Joy-Con 2 controllers to be detached before it becomes available. This makes it a better fit for a supported tabletop or desk-like setup than for ordinary handheld play. Motion Controls are a separate choice: Mouse Mode and Motion Control cannot be enabled at the same time.

A simple choice rule

Choose standard controls when you want the least setup and the most familiar behavior. Choose Mouse Mode when both Joy-Con 2 controllers are detached and mouse-style pointing suits your posture. Choose Motion Control when gesture actions feel comfortable and you want swings, shakes or tilts assigned to combat and utility actions. None of those choices changes the 900p or 1080p target.

How to enable Mouse Mode

Bethesda says both Mouse and Motion controls are disabled by default. Use this path from inside the game:

  1. Open the pause menu.
  2. Select System.
  3. Choose Gameplay.
  4. Open Controller.
  5. Detach both Joy-Con 2 controllers.
  6. Toggle Mouse Mode.

If the Mouse Mode option remains unavailable, check the physical controller state first. Both Joy-Con 2 units must be detached; detaching only one does not satisfy the documented requirement. Mouse Mode is also mutually exclusive with Motion Control, so turn Motion Control off before trying to activate the mouse option.

Mouse options worth checking

Bethesda documents Left Mouse Mode and mouse-sensitivity controls within the Mouse Mode settings. Left Mouse Mode is useful if your preferred hand or button arrangement makes the default assignment uncomfortable. Sensitivity should be adjusted in small increments: raise it if turning feels sluggish, and lower it if small hand movements produce more camera movement than you can control. The FAQ establishes that these options exist, but it does not identify a universally best sensitivity value.

Make one change at a time and test it in a safe area rather than changing sensitivity, hand assignment and motion settings together. That gives you a clear idea of which adjustment helped. If you reconnect a Joy-Con while setting up, return to the Controller menu and verify that the game still recognizes the intended mode.

How to enable Motion Controls

  1. Open the pause menu.
  2. Go to System.
  3. Select Gameplay.
  4. Open Controller.
  5. Toggle Motion Control on.

Motion Control is independent of the graphics target. Enabling it will not increase resolution or frame rate; it only changes how supported actions are triggered. Because Mouse Mode and Motion Control cannot be active together, choose the one that fits the way you hold the system.

Default motion actions

Controller Movement Action
Right Joy-Con 2 Horizontal swing Normal attack
Right Joy-Con 2 Vertical swing Power attack
Left Joy-Con 2 Shake Cast a spell
Left Joy-Con 2 Tilt left Sheathe or unsheathe weapon
Left Joy-Con 2 Tilt right Block
Left Joy-Con 2 Tilt back Enter or leave stealth

The motion scheme is action-oriented rather than a replacement for every controller command. You still use the normal controls for movement, menu navigation and any action not assigned to a gesture.

Swap the motion sides

Open the same System > Gameplay > Controller area and use Motion Control Swap to reverse the left/right arrangement. This is the documented option for players who hold the controllers differently or find the standard hand assignment awkward. Bethesda does not claim that the default or swapped layout is more accurate for everyone, so choose the arrangement that lets you perform the gestures without twisting your wrists or losing your grip.

Swapping does not create new actions; it changes which side performs the existing assignments. If a right-handed layout causes repeated accidental tilts or makes blocking awkward, try the swapped layout for several minutes in a low-risk area before deciding which feels more natural.

Bow aiming and gyro support

Bethesda separately documents motion-assisted bow aiming. In handheld mode, you can aim by moving the entire console. The FAQ also lists Joy-Con 2 and Pro Controller support for bow aiming when using those controllers. This is an input feature, not a resolution or frame-rate setting, and it should not be confused with the general Motion Control toggle for attacks, spells, blocking and stealth.

Choosing an aiming method

  • Handheld gyro: move the whole Switch 2 while holding it. This is practical when the console is already in your hands and you want fine adjustments after using the stick to make a broad turn.
  • Joy-Con 2 or Pro Controller motion: use the supported controller’s movement while the console is docked or otherwise separated from your hands.
  • Traditional aiming: leave motion features disabled and use the stick-based controls if moving the hardware would be distracting or impractical.

The official documentation establishes availability, not a controlled accuracy comparison. There is no evidence that gyro aiming is universally faster, more precise or more comfortable than stick aiming.

Do not assume that enabling general Motion Control is required for every bow setup described by Bethesda. Bow support is documented separately for handheld whole-console aiming and supported controllers. Check the Controller menu and use the method that matches your physical setup; changing bow input will not affect image clarity.

What to do if the image looks blurry or has ghosting

Bethesda Support has acknowledged reports from some Switch 2 players of increased blur, ghosting, reduced visual quality or flicker after Update 1.1. The support article says Bethesda will update the information when more is known. Bethesda’s Patch 1.1 notes, dated September 17, 2026, list fixes but do not state that these reported visual symptoms were resolved.

What you can and cannot fix with settings

The published support information does not provide a confirmed setting that removes the blur or ghosting. Do not assume that switching between a performance and visual preset will help: the game has no such switch. The available documentation also does not establish a fix involving a resolution slider, DLSS-style option or another hidden graphics control.

Likewise, Mouse Mode, Motion Control, Motion Control Swap and bow-aim choices affect input only. They do not sharpen the render, alter temporal reconstruction or raise the listed resolution. If changing one appears to help, treat that as an observation to report rather than a documented remedy.

A sensible troubleshooting sequence

  1. Record when the symptom appears and whether it affects handheld, docked or both modes.
  2. Confirm the game is updated, then read Bethesda’s current Switch 2 support notice and the latest Switch 2 patch notes. The support status is subject to change as Bethesda investigates.
  3. Test the same location after fully closing and restarting the game, so you can distinguish a persistent rendering problem from a one-session display glitch.
  4. Check the television’s own picture processing if the issue appears only while docked. Disable excessive motion smoothing or sharpening temporarily to determine whether the display is adding artifacts. This does not change the game’s internal image, but it can identify a TV-side effect.
  5. If the symptom remains, report it through Bethesda Support with your mode (handheld or docked), display type, update version and a description of the artifact. Avoid claiming that a control setting fixed it unless you can reproduce that result and Bethesda documents it.

Because no confirmed in-game remedy is published, the honest expectation is that a software update or an updated support instruction may be required. Changing input modes is useful for controls but should not be advertised as a cure for visual artifacts.

Traditional controls, touch, mouse and motion: which should you use?

Input method Setup Best fit Important limitation
Standard controller No special activation Players who want the conventional layout in any mode No motion gestures
Touchscreen Use supported touch interactions on the handheld display Handheld menu or interface interactions The official material does not present touch as a full replacement for controller input
Mouse Mode Detach both Joy-Con 2; enable it under System > Gameplay > Controller Desk or tabletop play with mouse-style control Cannot be enabled with Motion Control
Motion Control Enable it under System > Gameplay > Controller Gesture-based attacks, spell casting, blocking and stealth Cannot be enabled with Mouse Mode

There is no official accuracy or comfort ranking among these methods. Your choice should follow the physical context: standard controls for consistency, Mouse Mode when both Joy-Con 2 controllers are detached and a mouse-style setup makes sense, and Motion Control when gestures are comfortable and useful to you.

Touchscreen expectations

Touch interactions are most relevant in handheld mode, especially for interface actions. Bethesda’s published material does not describe touch as a complete replacement for movement, combat and every controller command. Treat it as a supplementary handheld input rather than a promised touch-only control scheme.

Edition and cartridge differences

Bethesda’s Switch 2 FAQ distinguishes the editions by format: Standard and Deluxe are digital, while only Deluxe is offered on a physical cartridge. The edition information does not say that Deluxe renders at a different resolution, runs at a different frame rate or unlocks a graphics mode. Choose the physical Deluxe edition for the cartridge and included edition content, not for a performance advantage.

Edition choice also does not determine whether Mouse Mode, Motion Control or bow aiming is available. Those are documented Switch 2 features, while the Standard-versus-Deluxe distinction concerns delivery format and content. Check current retailer listings if you specifically want the physical Deluxe cartridge, since stock and pricing can change.

Common mistakes and their fixes

Looking for a performance toggle

Symptom: you search the menus for “Prioritize Performance” or “Prioritize Visuals.”
Fix: there is no documented toggle. Use handheld or docked mode according to the published 900p/30 FPS and 1080p/30 FPS targets.

Mouse Mode is missing

Symptom: the Mouse Mode control is unavailable.
Fix: detach both Joy-Con 2 controllers, then return to System > Gameplay > Controller. Also make sure Motion Control is off, because the two modes cannot be enabled together.

Motion gestures do nothing

Symptom: swinging, shaking or tilting produces no assigned action.
Fix: enable Motion Control in the same Controller menu. If the gesture works on the opposite side from what you expect, check Motion Control Swap.

Expecting a control change to sharpen the image

Symptom: you enable Mouse Mode or Motion Control hoping to remove blur or ghosting.
Fix: input options do not alter the game’s stated display target. For post-Update 1.1 visual artifacts, consult Bethesda’s current support notice and later patch notes instead.

Assuming docked means 60 FPS

Symptom: you expect the external-screen configuration to double the frame rate.
Fix: Bethesda lists docked play at 1080p and 30 FPS. Docking changes the listed resolution target, not the documented frame-rate target.

Using one detached Joy-Con

Symptom: Mouse Mode still cannot be selected after removing a controller.
Fix: Bethesda’s requirement is that both Joy-Con 2 controllers be detached. Remove both, then reopen the Controller submenu.

Quick setup checklist

  • Decide whether you are playing handheld, docked or with detached controllers.
  • Use the published target for that context: 900p/30 FPS handheld or 1080p/30 FPS docked.
  • Skip the search for a graphics-priority preset; Bethesda says neither mode exists.
  • For Mouse Mode, detach both Joy-Con 2 controllers and enable it under System > Gameplay > Controller.
  • For Motion Control, enable it in the same menu and use Motion Control Swap if the default sides do not suit you.
  • For bow aiming, choose handheld whole-console gyro, supported controller movement or traditional stick aiming.
  • Adjust Left Mouse Mode and sensitivity gradually if you use Mouse Mode.
  • If blur, ghosting, reduced quality or flicker began after Update 1.1, check Bethesda’s current support information rather than applying an unverified graphics tweak.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enable a 60 FPS or performance mode on Switch 2?

No. Bethesda’s August 11, 2026 Switch 2 FAQ says neither “Prioritize Performance” nor “Prioritize Visuals” mode is available. The listed targets are 900p/30 FPS handheld and 1080p/30 FPS docked.

Why is Mouse Mode unavailable?

Both Joy-Con 2 controllers must be detached before Mouse Mode becomes available. It is also mutually exclusive with Motion Control, so turn Motion Control off and check System > Gameplay > Controller again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can Mouse Mode and Motion Control run together?

No. Bethesda documents them as separate modes that cannot be enabled at the same time.

How do I swap the motion controls?

Enable Motion Control under System > Gameplay > Controller, then use Motion Control Swap in that area to reverse the left/right arrangement.

Does gyro aiming work in handheld mode?

Yes. Bethesda documents aiming by moving the entire console in handheld mode, along with bow aiming support for Joy-Con 2 and Pro Controller setups.

Will changing controls fix blur or ghosting?

There is no confirmed settings-based fix. Bethesda Support acknowledged reports after Update 1.1, while the September 17, 2026 Patch 1.1 notes do not confirm that those symptoms were resolved.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the physical Deluxe edition sharper or faster?

No such difference is documented. Bethesda says Standard and Deluxe are digital, while only Deluxe is available on a physical cartridge; edition format is not described as affecting resolution or frame rate.

Are the 900p and 1080p figures independent benchmarks?

No. They are Bethesda’s stated platform targets, not independent measurements of every scene or a guarantee that every moment maintains exactly 30 FPS.

The Bottom Line

Set expectations first: Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 has Bethesda-listed targets of 900p/30 FPS handheld and 1080p/30 FPS docked, with no performance-versus-visuals selector. Improve the experience by choosing the input method that fits your setup: detach both Joy-Con 2 controllers for Mouse Mode, enable Motion Control for gesture actions, swap the motion sides if needed, and use handheld or controller gyro for bow aiming. If blur, ghosting, reduced quality or flicker appeared after Update 1.1, follow Bethesda’s current support notices and patch notes rather than relying on an unverified graphics tweak.
