Choose Wordle if you enjoy narrowing down one five-letter word using letter-by-letter feedback. Choose Connections if you prefer spotting themes among words and testing possible groups. The better fit depends on which kind of puzzle you enjoy; the games’ rules don’t establish that one is universally harder, quicker, or more rewarding.

How Wordle works

Wordle asks you to guess a five-letter word in six tries or fewer, according to the NYT Games App Store listing. Each guess gives you letter feedback to use when choosing the next one. The central task is to narrow the possibilities until you find the target word—or run out of guesses.

How Connections works

Connections asks you to find themes shared by words and group the words accordingly, as described by the New York Times Help Center. Its help material also describes category difficulty and order, while the stats interface includes a mistake histogram. The challenge is recognizing a plausible shared idea and deciding whether the words belong together.

Which puzzle fits your style?

A clear target and incremental clues Wordle You use feedback from each guess to narrow down one five-letter answer.
Ambiguous clues and semantic associations Connections You look for themes that could link several words, then test your groupings.

That distinction follows from the games’ mechanics, not from evidence that either one improves a particular cognitive skill or is objectively more difficult. Your experience can also vary with the day’s word or categories.
