What Agility Robotics and Nyobolt announced
On October 15, 2026, Agility Robotics named Nyobolt as the battery technology provider for Digit 5, the next version of its industrial humanoid robot. The companies describe the system as an integrated, fast-recharge battery designed for environments where robots must return to work quickly rather than wait through a long charging cycle.

Digit 5 is being positioned for cooperatively safe work alongside people in manufacturing, warehousing and distribution. Agility’s business case is built around keeping the robot productive across multiple shifts. Daniel Diez, Agility’s chief business officer, said, “For our customers, Digit’s uptime is the business case.”
Digit 5 battery runtime and charging claims
Agility and Nyobolt specify 90 minutes of runtime followed by a nine-minute recharge. That produces a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio, compared with the 2:1 ratio Agility cites for Digit 4.

Agility says this operating pattern can support more than 20 hours of productive work in a 24-hour day, or more than two full shifts. That is a company projection for the announced system, not an independently verified endurance test. Actual productivity will depend on task mix, walking distance, payload, safety pauses, charging infrastructure and the operating schedule used by each customer.
Nyobolt co-founder and CEO Sai Shivareddy said the technology was selected because Digit 5 needs “more power from a smaller, lighter pack” in workplaces where reliability is essential. The announcement does not identify the battery chemistry, pack capacity, charging connector, charging power, cycle-life rating or thermal-management design.

Why the charging target matters for industrial robots
A humanoid assigned to a warehouse or factory loses value when it is unavailable for long charging sessions. A nine-minute top-up is intended to fit into planned breaks, handoffs or routine operating pauses, reducing the time a fleet spends parked. The stated 10:1 ratio also gives operators a straightforward way to model charging windows against a shift schedule.

A deployment still needs a safe charging area, a method for scheduling robots between tasks, and procedures for handling exceptions such as a depleted pack, a blocked charging station or a task that runs longer than expected. Neither company has published a field trial showing how those factors affect the 20-hour figure.

What Digit 5 is intended to do
Digit 5 is aimed at industrial tasks performed near human workers, with Agility describing the platform as cooperatively safe. The company says Digit robots can repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds (22.7 kilograms). That is a separate robot capability figure, not a battery-performance measurement.
Agility also reports more than 65,000 hours of Digit 4 operational time and says it had more than $300 million in multi-year customer orders as of May 2026. Those figures provide commercial and deployment context for Digit 5, but they do not establish that the new battery has already achieved the announced runtime or recharge target in customer facilities.

When will Digit 5 be available?
Agility’s timeline has several stages:
- Early access: expected in the first half of 2027 for selected customers and programs.
- Broader availability: expected over the following six to nine months.
- General availability: Agility separately expects this by the end of 2027.
These are forward-looking company expectations. The announcement warns that performance, supply, economics, customer timing and availability can change, so the dates should not be treated as a guaranteed shipping schedule.
What is still unknown about the Nyobolt system
The announcement establishes Nyobolt as the named technology provider, but it does not provide the information a fleet buyer would normally need for a final battery evaluation. Important unanswered questions include:
- Battery chemistry, nominal voltage and usable energy.
- Whether the nine-minute figure is a full recharge or a specified partial charge.
- Charging power, connector standard and facility electrical requirements.
- Expected cycle life, replacement interval and end-of-life performance.
- Operating-temperature limits and protections against overheating.
- Battery, charger and robot warranty terms.
- Purchase or service pricing and the number of packs needed per robot.
- Independent test data covering runtime, recharge time and safety.
Until those details are published, the 90-minute and nine-minute figures are best read as design targets or company-stated specifications for the planned Digit 5 system.
Is Nyobolt’s battery available to consumers?
Nothing in the announcement describes a consumer retail battery, replacement pack or stand-alone product. Nyobolt’s role here is as an industrial technology provider integrated into Agility’s Digit 5 program. Consumers should not assume that the Digit 5 pack can be purchased separately or adapted for another device.
What enterprise buyers should verify
Organizations considering an early-access program should ask Agility and Nyobolt to confirm the details that determine real-world uptime:

- How runtime is measured, including payload, speed, temperature and task conditions.
- Whether the nine-minute recharge requires a specific state-of-charge window or dedicated high-power equipment.
- How many charge cycles the pack supports before capacity falls below the service threshold.
- What redundancy is provided if a robot or charging station is unavailable.
- How the battery system is monitored, serviced and replaced on a multi-shift site.
- Which safety certifications and site-installation requirements apply in the customer’s region.
Those answers will determine whether the stated ratio translates into the staffing, charging capacity and fleet size a particular operation needs. For now, Digit 5 represents an announced industrial deployment of Nyobolt battery technology, with an aggressive recharge target and availability planned from 2027, rather than a commercially proven consumer battery product.
