1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShort answer: NVIDIA’s published specifications make Vera the newer, higher-bandwidth platform for AI-factory and agentic workloads, while Grace remains a flexible Arm server CPU family for accelerated computing, cloud, edge and data-center deployments. In NVIDIA’s like-for-like comparison, Vera has 88 custom Olympus cores and 176 threads, up to 1.2 TB/s of memory bandwidth, up to 1.5 TB of LPDDR5X and 1.8 TB/s of NVLink-C2C. The compared Grace configuration has 72 Arm Neoverse V2 cores, 512 GB/s, 480 GB of LPDDR5X and 900 GB/s of NVLink-C2C. Those are platform specifications, not proof that Vera is faster for every application. The right choice depends on the exact Grace variant, software stack, GPU and network configuration, memory footprint, power envelope and independently reproducible workload tests.
What are NVIDIA Grace and Vera?
Grace and Vera are NVIDIA-designed Arm CPU platforms intended to sit inside accelerated servers and other data-center systems. They are not interchangeable product names for one fixed motherboard. “Grace” can mean a single Grace CPU, a Grace CPU C1 single-socket platform, or the two-chip Grace CPU Superchip. “Vera” refers to a newer CPU platform that NVIDIA presents for AI factories, agentic reasoning and data-intensive infrastructure, including single- and dual-socket servers and systems paired with Rubin GPUs.

The comparison therefore has two levels. At the silicon level, Vera’s published core, cache, memory and interconnect figures are higher than those in NVIDIA’s comparison row for Grace. At the system level, an actual Grace Superchip server can have two Grace CPUs, 144 total cores and up to 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth, so it must not be compared with one 72-core Grace CPU as if they were the same configuration.
Grace vs. Vera: specification comparison
| Specification | NVIDIA Grace CPU (comparison configuration) | NVIDIA Vera CPU | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU cores | 72 Arm Neoverse V2 cores | 88 custom NVIDIA Olympus cores | More cores can help parallel workloads, but performance also depends on clock behavior, software scaling and the workload’s memory limits. |
| Threads | 72 in NVIDIA’s comparison | 176 with Spatial Multithreading | Thread counts are implemented differently; validate how the application behaves with Vera’s simultaneous thread resources. |
| L2 cache | 1 MB per core | 2 MB per core | Cache can reduce trips to external memory, but cache size alone does not predict application speed. |
| Unified L3 cache | 114 MB | 164 MB | These are vendor-published specifications for the compared platforms. |
| Memory bandwidth | Up to 512 GB/s | Up to 1.2 TB/s | Bandwidth is most important for streaming, analytics and data-movement workloads that can keep many memory channels busy. |
| LPDDR5X capacity | Up to 480 GB | Up to 1.5 TB | Actual capacity depends on the system configuration and reserved memory. |
| NVLink-C2C | 900 GB/s | 1.8 TB/s | This is a coherent CPU-to-GPU or CPU-to-CPU interconnect specification, not an application benchmark. |
| Expansion | PCIe Gen 5 | PCIe Gen 6 and CXL 3.1 | Check the server’s actual slot count, lane allocation, retimers and supported devices. |
| Positioning | Accelerated computing, cloud, edge and data center | Agentic AI, data movement, orchestration, analytics and storage | These are NVIDIA’s stated workload emphases, not independent performance ratings. |
Every “up to” value in the table is configuration-dependent. It should be treated as a ceiling for a specified platform design, not as a guaranteed result on every server carrying the CPU name.

Core architecture and threading
Grace: 72 Neoverse V2 cores per CPU
NVIDIA lists 72 Arm Neoverse V2 cores for the Grace CPU configuration used in its comparison. The same Grace family is also available as the Grace CPU Superchip, in which two Grace CPUs are connected coherently and provide 144 Neoverse V2 cores in total. A workload licensed or sized for one socket may not automatically benefit from the second chip: software topology, NUMA behavior, synchronization and memory placement still matter.
Vera: 88 Olympus cores and 176 threads
NVIDIA lists 88 custom Olympus cores and 176 threads for Vera, using Spatial Multithreading. That gives Vera a larger hardware thread pool than the 72-thread Grace comparison row, but a thread is not equivalent to an additional full core. Applications with independent, latency-tolerant work may gain from more concurrent threads; applications that are already limited by memory bandwidth, locks, I/O or serial sections may gain little.
Before selecting Vera because of its thread count, test the real service with the operating-system scheduler, container limits and the production number of worker processes. Confirm that observability tools, profilers and performance libraries understand the new topology.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Memory capacity and bandwidth: the biggest published difference
Memory is where NVIDIA’s published comparison separates the platforms most clearly. The Grace row lists up to 512 GB/s of memory bandwidth and up to 480 GB of LPDDR5X. Vera is listed at up to 1.2 TB/s and up to 1.5 TB of LPDDR5X. For workloads that repeatedly scan large arrays, build indexes, transform datasets or feed accelerators, the additional bandwidth and capacity can reduce stalls and avoid moving data to slower tiers.
Those figures do not mean every workload will run 2.34 times faster. A program must generate enough concurrent memory traffic to use the available channels, and its access pattern must be suitable for the platform. Random access, synchronization, compression, branch-heavy logic and storage latency can dominate instead. Measure bandwidth-sensitive kernels and the complete application, not just a synthetic copy test.
Do not confuse a Grace CPU with a Grace CPU Superchip
NVIDIA describes the Grace CPU Superchip as two Grace CPU chips joined coherently over NVLink-C2C at 900 GB/s. It lists 144 total Neoverse V2 cores and up to 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth for that two-CPU product. Comparing those figures with Vera’s single-platform numbers without identifying socket count can produce a misleading conclusion.

NVLink-C2C and accelerator data movement
NVIDIA lists 900 GB/s of NVLink-C2C for Grace and 1.8 TB/s for Vera in its CPU comparison. NVLink-C2C provides a coherent, high-bandwidth path within an NVIDIA platform, so it can matter when CPU code prepares data for a GPU, when a CPU coordinates accelerator work, or when system components share addressable memory.
Interconnect bandwidth is not the same as application throughput. A service may be limited by kernel launch overhead, serialization, GPU occupancy, data layout, PCIe devices, network traffic or software copies before it approaches the NVLink-C2C ceiling. Ask vendors to demonstrate the full transfer path used by your application, including synchronization and memory-registration costs.
PCIe, CXL and system expansion
NVIDIA’s comparison lists PCIe Gen 5 for Grace and PCIe Gen 6 with CXL 3.1 for Vera. Newer I/O standards can provide more host-device bandwidth and support future memory or accelerator designs, but the CPU specification does not tell you how a particular server implements them.
- Check the number of physical slots and the electrical lane width assigned to each slot.
- Confirm whether GPU, NIC, storage and management devices share a root complex or compete for lanes.
- Verify firmware support for the intended CXL devices; CXL 3.1 capability on the CPU does not guarantee that every server exposes every CXL feature.
- Check retimer, cable and switch requirements for the exact chassis.
- Confirm that the operating system and hypervisor support the planned PCIe and CXL topology.
Which workloads is each CPU aimed at?
Grace: broad accelerated-computing and infrastructure use
NVIDIA positions Grace for accelerated computing, cloud, edge and broader data-center workloads. Grace CPU C1 is described as a single-socket platform for cloud, content-delivery, storage, telecommunications and edge deployments. These roles often value predictable power, compact integration, Arm software compatibility and close coordination with NVIDIA GPUs, rather than maximum CPU memory capacity alone.

“Agentic AI” is a workload category, not a guarantee of faster response time. An agent-serving stack may spend most of its time waiting on a model accelerator, a vector database, a network API or a tool invocation. Profile the orchestration layer and data-preparation stages separately from model inference.
Is Vera faster than Grace?
There is no universal answer established by the available evidence. NVIDIA’s Vera technical material includes vendor-reported comparisons for selected sandbox and data-processing tasks, but those results depend on the test setup and do not constitute an independent, application-wide Vera-versus-Grace benchmark. A higher core count, memory bandwidth or NVLink-C2C figure should not be converted into an unconditional speed claim.
For a meaningful comparison, run the same software build, dataset, accelerator, network, storage path, compiler settings and power limits on both systems. Report throughput, tail latency, energy per request, memory use and failure behavior. Include warm-up, steady-state and scale-out tests, because a platform that wins a single-node test may lose when the workload is distributed across racks.

How to choose between Vera and Grace
- Define the dominant workload. Classify the service as GPU hosting, CPU-heavy agent execution, large-scale data movement, analytics, cloud or edge infrastructure, storage, or a mixed workload.
- Name the exact platform. Record whether the Grace option is one CPU, Grace CPU C1 or the two-CPU Grace CPU Superchip. Record the Vera socket count and the attached GPU generation.
- Size memory first. Estimate resident data, model-serving buffers, page-cache requirements, replicas and failure headroom. Compare usable capacity, not just the headline LPDDR5X figure.
- Measure the bottleneck. Use profiling to determine whether the application is compute-bound, memory-bandwidth-bound, interconnect-bound, I/O-bound or waiting on external services.
- Validate Arm software support. Check operating-system images, container base layers, language runtimes, database extensions, cryptography libraries, GPU libraries and monitoring agents on the target architecture.
- Map the complete topology. Document CPU-to-GPU links, NUMA domains, NIC placement, PCIe lanes, storage paths and network fabrics. A fast CPU can be stranded by an undersized link or poor placement.
- Run a representative proof of concept. Use production-like data, concurrency, batch sizes, security controls and observability. Ask for raw measurements and configuration details behind any vendor performance claim.
- Check operational limits. Compare rack power, cooling, firmware lifecycle, spare strategy, serviceability and orchestration support before approving a design.
Grace and Vera deployment variants
Grace CPU C1
Grace CPU C1 is described by NVIDIA as a single-socket platform for cloud, content-delivery, storage, telecommunications and edge deployments. It is a distinct product context from the Grace CPU Superchip. Confirm its exact memory, I/O and networking configuration in the server quotation.
Grace CPU Superchip
The Superchip combines two Grace CPU chips coherently over 900 GB/s NVLink-C2C. NVIDIA lists 144 cores and up to 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth. It can be a strong fit when a single system needs more CPU resources without moving to a conventional dual-socket design, but software and memory locality still need validation.
Vera single- and dual-socket systems
NVIDIA’s March 2026 Vera overview presents single- and dual-socket Vera servers as well as HGX Rubin NVL8 systems. The exact number of CPU sockets, GPUs, NICs, memory and storage devices changes the behavior of the platform, so “Vera server” is not a complete bill of materials.

Software and compatibility checks
Both platforms use Arm-based CPU technology, but binary compatibility is not the same as performance portability. Review every component that runs on the host CPU, including:
- Container images and native packages compiled for the required Arm instruction set.
- JIT compilers, numerical libraries and thread runtimes.
- Databases, vector stores, message queues and storage engines.
- GPU drivers, CUDA-dependent services and collective-communication libraries.
- Kernel modules, eBPF tooling, backup agents and hardware monitoring.
- Licensing terms that count CPU cores, sockets or virtual CPUs differently on the new platform.
Test upgrades and rollback procedures as well as steady-state performance. A service that performs well but cannot be patched, monitored or restored reliably is not ready for production.
Power, cooling and rack planning
CPU specifications alone do not reveal the rack-level cost. A Vera system populated with more memory, GPUs, high-speed networking and PCIe or CXL devices may require a different power and cooling design than a Grace system. Request the server’s sustained and peak power figures, inlet-temperature limits, airflow direction, acoustic constraints where relevant, and the rack power-distribution plan.
Also account for performance under the facility’s real thermal conditions. Turbo behavior, fan curves and power caps can change sustained throughput. Compare both systems at the same service-level objective and energy budget instead of comparing unconstrained laboratory runs.
Availability and timing
NVIDIA’s March 16, 2026 Vera overview said major OEM systems were expected in the second half of 2026. A July 21, 2026 NVIDIA post said Vera Rubin production was ramping and reported systems running at named cloud partners. Those statements are dated NVIDIA announcements; they do not establish current orderability, delivery time, regional availability or pricing for every server configuration.
When requesting a quote, ask for a written ship date, region, support term, firmware baseline, memory population, GPU and NIC models, and a statement of what is included in the quoted performance. Availability can differ between a complete rack system, a cloud instance and an individual CPU platform.

Common comparison mistakes
Comparing a single Grace CPU with a dual-chip Superchip
This mixes different core counts, memory bandwidth and system topologies. Put socket count and product variant in every comparison row.
Turning bandwidth into a speedup percentage
More bandwidth helps only when the application is bandwidth-limited and can use it. Do not claim a proportional application gain without a matched benchmark.
Using vendor workload claims as independent evidence
NVIDIA’s selected Vera results are vendor-reported and setup-dependent. Request reproducible test details and validate with your own software.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Ignoring the accelerator and network fabric
CPU choice cannot compensate for an undersized GPU link, NIC, storage path or poorly placed NUMA device.
Assuming Arm compatibility is automatic
Check native packages, proprietary agents, kernel modules and licensing before committing to a migration.
Treating a headline capacity as usable application memory
Firmware, drivers, GPU-reserved regions, the operating system and safety headroom reduce the memory available to application processes.
A practical evaluation checklist
- Write the complete CPU, socket, memory and accelerator configuration.
- Capture usable memory and measured memory bandwidth under the intended workload.
- Measure CPU throughput, accelerator throughput and end-to-end latency separately.
- Record p50, p95 and p99 latency for agent and API services.
- Test failure recovery, node replacement and rolling firmware updates.
- Validate observability, security scanning, backup and disaster-recovery tooling.
- Compare performance per watt and rack-level capacity at the required service level.
- Document software versions, compiler flags, drivers, firmware and test data so results can be reproduced.
Bottom line for AI-server buyers
Choose Vera when your design benefits from the platform’s higher published memory capacity and bandwidth, larger core and thread resources, newer PCIe/CXL expansion and 1.8 TB/s NVLink-C2C—and when your software and server vendor can demonstrate those advantages on the real workload. Choose Grace when its established accelerated-computing, cloud, edge or data-center configuration meets your CPU, memory and integration requirements, especially when a Grace CPU Superchip or Grace CPU C1 fits the system topology.
Neither name is a universal winner. The defensible decision is based on the exact Grace or Vera configuration, the complete CPU-GPU-network system, Arm software readiness, power and cooling limits, and a reproducible benchmark using your application.
