Yes—Nvidia officially announced U.S. desktop launch MSRPs of $1,999 for the GeForce RTX 5090, $999 for the RTX 5080 and $749 for the RTX 5070 Ti. The announcement was made at CES on January 6, 2025; the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 launched on January 30, 2025, while the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 became available starting in February 2025. These are historical launch prices, not guarantees of what every retailer or board partner charges in 2026.

Official RTX 50-series desktop prices

Nvidia described the figures as “starting at.” They are U.S.-dollar launch MSRPs, generally associated with a Founders Edition or the least expensive partner designs. Sales tax, regional pricing, import costs and retailer markups are separate.

GPU Launch MSRP (U.S.) Availability announced by Nvidia VRAM
GeForce RTX 5090 $1,999 January 30, 2025 32GB GDDR7
GeForce RTX 5080 $999 January 30, 2025 16GB GDDR7
GeForce RTX 5070 Ti $749 Starting February 2025 16GB GDDR7
GeForce RTX 5070 $549 Starting February 2025 12GB GDDR7

See Nvidia’s RTX 50-series announcement and its RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 launch notice for the original availability statements.

What “starting at” means in practice

A $1,999 RTX 5090 is not a promise that every RTX 5090 costs $1,999. Nvidia’s Founders Edition supply was limited to selected models, while add-in-board manufacturers such as ASUS, Colorful, GIGABYTE, MSI, PNY and ZOTAC sold stock-clocked and factory-overclocked cards.

ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 32GB GDDR7 OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card
  • AI Performance: 772 AI TOPS
  • OC mode: 2580 MHz Default mode: 2550 MHz(Boost clock)
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Card
  • Axial-tech fans feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure

Premium cooling, larger heatsinks, liquid cooling, white finishes, compact designs and higher factory clocks can all add to the price. Shortages, tariffs, demand and reseller activity can push a card far above MSRP. Compare the exact model’s cooler, dimensions, power connector, warranty and return policy rather than comparing GPU names alone.

Hardware comparison

All three headline models use Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, but they occupy very different performance and power classes. The specifications below come from Nvidia’s announcement and Blackwell architecture documentation.

Specification RTX 5090 RTX 5080 RTX 5070 Ti
GPU GB202 GB203 GB203
CUDA cores 21,760 10,752 8,960
VRAM 32GB GDDR7 16GB GDDR7 16GB GDDR7
Memory bus 512-bit 256-bit 256-bit
Memory bandwidth 1,792GB/s 960GB/s 896GB/s
Total board power 575W 360W 300W
Launch MSRP $1,999 $999 $749

RTX 5090: the maximum-performance option

The RTX 5090 combines 21,760 CUDA cores, 32GB of GDDR7, a 512-bit bus and 1,792GB/s of bandwidth. Its 575W board power is a system-design issue, not a footnote: verify the power supply, modern high-power cabling, case clearance, airflow and cooling before treating it as a drop-in upgrade.

Nvidia positioned the 5090 as up to twice as fast as the RTX 4090 when Blackwell features and DLSS 4 are used. That claim is not a universal native-rendering guarantee. The card is aimed at high-refresh 4K gaming, demanding ray tracing, professional rendering and local generative-AI workloads where 32GB of VRAM has a practical purpose. For 1080p/60Hz gaming or an older CPU platform, its cost is difficult to justify.

RTX 5080: high-end 4K at a lower entry price

The RTX 5080 costs half as much as the announced 5090 MSRP and uses 10,752 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR7, 960GB/s bandwidth and a 360W board-power rating. Its natural use case is high-setting 4K gaming with ray tracing, provided your power supply and case can handle a 360W card.

Nvidia advertised up to twice the RTX 4080’s performance with Blackwell and DLSS 4. The 16GB framebuffer is adequate for many games but can become a constraint with very high-resolution texture packs, some professional applications and certain AI workloads. The $999 positioning echoed the RTX 4080 Super’s launch price, but price alone does not establish value: native performance, upscaling mode, VRAM needs and availability matter.

RTX 5070 Ti: the practical middle ground

The RTX 5070 Ti launched at $749 with 8,960 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR7, 896GB/s bandwidth and 300W board power. It is the most obvious fit for high-refresh 1440p and more affordable 4K systems, especially when a 575W flagship would require a broader platform upgrade.

Nvidia described it as twice as fast as the RTX 4070 Ti using Blackwell and DLSS 4. It is not “basically a 5080”: both cards have 16GB, but the 5080 has more compute resources and higher bandwidth. Check the actual street price, because a 5070 Ti marked up close to 5080 pricing loses much of its rationale.

The RTX 5070 completes the launch range

The headline models omit the $549 RTX 5070, which Nvidia also announced for February 2025. Its 12GB memory configuration places it below the 16GB 5070 Ti and makes it a lower-cost option for mainstream 1440p builds. The $200 launch gap between the two models is meaningful when comparing longevity, texture settings and workloads that benefit from additional VRAM.

How DLSS 4 changes the performance discussion

DLSS 4 adds Multi Frame Generation to RTX 50-series cards. Nvidia says supported games can generate up to three additional frames for each traditionally rendered frame and describes potential frame-rate multiplication of up to 8×. Generated frames are not equivalent to independently rendered frames, however.

  • Native rendering: the GPU renders every displayed frame directly.
  • DLSS Super Resolution: the game renders at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs a higher-resolution image.
  • Frame Generation: AI-generated frames are inserted between traditionally rendered frames.
  • Multi Frame Generation: RTX 50-series hardware can generate multiple inserted frames per rendered frame in supported games.

Benefits depend on game support, base frame rate, image quality, latency and the display’s refresh rate. Generated frames can make motion appear smoother, but they do not remove a CPU bottleneck or automatically deliver the input latency of the same number of natively rendered frames. Treat Nvidia’s “twice as fast” statements as company claims under specified settings, not as universal rasterization results.

Desktop and laptop names are not interchangeable

The prices above apply to desktop graphics cards. Laptop RTX 5090, RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti GPUs have different power limits, memory configurations and performance levels because they are integrated into constrained mobile systems. Nvidia said RTX 5090, 5080 and 5070 Ti laptops would begin appearing in March 2025, with RTX 5070 laptops following in April. A laptop advertised with an “RTX 5090” should not be assumed to perform like a desktop RTX 5090.

MSRP versus what buyers actually paid

Launch MSRP is useful for comparing Nvidia’s intended product stack, but it is not a live deal. A Tom’s Hardware report published in August 2026 recorded a historical market snapshot with an RTX 5090 at $4,381, an RTX 5080 example at $1,289, an RTX 5070 Ti example at $989 and an RTX 5070 example at $629. Those figures reflect that report’s date and availability conditions, not a permanent current price list. See the August 2026 market report before treating any historical number as evidence of today’s offer.

For current listings, use Nvidia’s RTX 5090 product finder, RTX 5080 product finder and RTX 5070 Ti product finder, then verify the retailer’s final price, tax, stock status and return terms.

Which card fits your system?

  • Choose RTX 5090 for maximum 4K performance, heavy ray tracing, professional GPU workloads or applications that genuinely use 32GB of VRAM—and budget for a 575W board and supporting hardware.
  • Choose RTX 5080 for high-end 4K when 16GB is sufficient and you want substantially more headroom than a 5070 Ti without paying 5090 money.
  • Choose RTX 5070 Ti for high-refresh 1440p or entry-level-to-strong 4K, particularly when 16GB matters but power and budget are tighter.

Before buying, check the current street price, native and DLSS-assisted benchmarks separately, VRAM requirements, the manufacturer’s PSU recommendation, card length and thickness, cooling noise, warranty, CPU capability and whether your favorite games support DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. A previous-generation clearance card can be the better deal if you do not need Blackwell features or additional memory.

  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5080
  • Integrated with 16GB GDDR7 256bit memory interface
  • PCIe 5.0
  • WINDFORCE cooling system

Does a 16GB RTX 5070 Ti match a 16GB RTX 5080?

No. The RTX 5080 has substantially more compute resources and higher memory bandwidth; equal VRAM capacity does not make the cards equivalent.

Is a laptop RTX 5090 the same as a desktop RTX 5090?

No. Laptop versions operate within different power and thermal limits and are separate products despite the shared name.

The Bottom Line

Nvidia’s prices were real launch MSRPs: $1,999 for the RTX 5090, $999 for the RTX 5080 and $749 for the RTX 5070 Ti. Whether any card is worth buying depends on its actual price, workload, VRAM needs, DLSS support and the power and cooling requirements of the complete system—not the MSRP alone.
