The higher price applies to the same 2019-generation hardware—not a newly announced refresh. Nvidia says component costs, including memory, have risen substantially across the industry.
Why did the Nvidia Shield TV Pro go up by $100?
Nvidia’s explanation, reported by 9to5Google, is that “the cost of components, including memory, has increased substantially across the industry.” That is the company’s stated reason; there is no independent component-cost analysis in the available reporting.
The new $299.99 price is $100 higher than the $199.99 price Nvidia set when it introduced this generation on October 28, 2019—an increase of about 50%. Nvidia’s 2019 launch announcement described the Pro’s hardware and original price. The October 2, 2026 reports from 9to5Google and Ars Technica say the new price took effect immediately.
Is the $300 Shield TV Pro new hardware?
No new SHIELD TV Pro hardware generation was identified in the reporting. The current Pro remains the 2019 model, built around Nvidia’s Tegra X1+ processor, with 3GB of memory and 16GB of storage. Nvidia said at launch that the processor offered up to 25% more performance than its predecessor; that was Nvidia’s comparison at the time, not a claim that the device is competitive with newer streamers.

- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
The age matters when evaluating the new price: buyers are paying more for an established feature set, not for a recently refreshed processor or a newly announced device.
What does the Shield TV Pro still offer?
Nvidia continues to list the Pro’s features on its SHIELD TV Pro product page. Its appeal is a particular combination of video, audio, storage and gaming capabilities:
Rank #2
- 4K Ultra HD with Cinematic Visuals & Sound: Supports 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) at 60FPS, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ for enhanced contrast, brightness, and color accuracy. Delivers immersive audio via Dolby Audio and DTS:X surround sound
- High-Performance Hardware: Equipped with a Quad-Core CPU (up to 2.5GHz) and ARM G310 V2 GPU for seamless navigation and multitasking. Includes 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage (ROM) for ample app and content space
- Google TV Smart Platform: Runs the latest Google TV OS, offering personalized content recommendations, access to thousands of streaming apps (Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, etc.), and voice control via Google Assistant
- Advanced Connectivity & Decoding: Features dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI 2.1, and USB 2.0 ports. Supports decoding of 4K 60FPS video formats and Google Cast for screen mirroring
- Complete Setup Included: Comes with Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen), voice remote control, power adapter, HDMI cable, and user manual. Compact design (95.25 x 95.25 x 16.7 mm) for discreet placement
- Picture and sound: Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos and AI upscaling. Nvidia introduced Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and AI upscaling with the 2019 generation.
- Expansion: Two USB 3.0 ports allow connection of external storage and other USB devices; the product supports expanded storage.
- Plex: The Pro supports Plex Media Server, making it a more flexible option for people who want local media-server capabilities as well as streaming apps.
- Gaming: GeForce NOW cloud gaming is among the listed features.
Those capabilities can make the Pro useful for a setup that needs USB expansion, Plex server support or GeForce NOW alongside streaming. Whether that bundle justifies $299.99 depends on which of those features you will actually use; the feature list alone does not establish that it is the best-value streamer at the new price.
Did Nvidia discontinue the regular Shield TV?
The base SHIELD TV launched alongside the Pro in 2019, but 9to5Google reported on October 2, 2026 that Nvidia had discontinued it. On that account, the Pro is the continuing model in the line, rather than one of two current SHIELD options at different prices.

Where can you still buy a Shield TV Pro?
9to5Google reported that the Pro had been restocked at Best Buy. That is a time-sensitive stock report, not a guarantee of current availability or price. Check Nvidia and retailer listings before ordering, and confirm that the listing is for the SHIELD TV Pro rather than an older or used product. The price and inventory may change.

The available reporting does not establish an end date for software support, so buyers should not treat continued updates for a particular period as guaranteed. Nor does the stated component-cost explanation independently prove what Nvidia’s costs are. With no new hardware generation announced in the reporting, the practical decision is whether the Pro’s distinctive features are worth its current price to you—not whether the higher price buys a newer model.
