AWS is the broadest integrated option, with NVIDIA GPUs plus Trainium2 and Inferentia2. Google Cloud is compelling when a model fits the TPU software stack. Azure belongs on enterprise shortlists, but its current price, quota and regional position must be verified directly with Microsoft before you make a cost or capacity claim.
Which Nscale alternative should you choose?
Nscale is a specialist AI cloud built around GPU infrastructure and managed training and inference workflows. It describes distributed training with Ray and PyTorch, and production inference with vLLM and Hugging Face. The practical choice depends less on a provider’s headline hardware than on your model’s software dependencies, interconnect needs, inference target, quota lead time, data location and contract terms.

Training and inference scope
Nscale positions itself as an AI-focused cloud rather than a general-purpose infrastructure catalog. Its AI Services material covers distributed training with Ray and PyTorch, then production inference with vLLM and Hugging Face. That combination suits teams that want a managed path from multi-node experimentation to a serving deployment without assembling every layer themselves.

For training, verify the GPU type, node topology, interconnect bandwidth, image or container support, checkpoint storage and scheduler behavior. Ray and PyTorch are portable frameworks, but performance still depends on NCCL versions, topology-aware placement and the way data and checkpoints move through the cluster.
For inference, ask whether the managed service exposes the vLLM settings you need: tensor or pipeline parallelism, quantization, continuous batching, speculative decoding, autoscaling and custom model code. “Supports vLLM” does not by itself establish a particular latency, throughput or maximum context length.
Keflavik capacity claim
Nscale says its Keflavik site is set to host more than 4,600 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs in 2026 and describes the Nordic capacity as renewable-powered. This is a provider roadmap statement, not a guarantee that every GPU is immediately available to every customer. During procurement, obtain a written delivery schedule, available regions, reservation mechanics, network architecture and data-residency terms.
CoreWeave: the closest specialist comparison
Why CoreWeave is the most direct alternative
CoreWeave focuses on GPU infrastructure and publishes both on-demand and spot pricing, plus separate inference rates. Its inference offering includes dedicated, single-tenant and region-specific deployment options with explicit GPU selection. That transparency is useful when you need to model a workload in GPU-hours rather than negotiate an opaque bundled service.
The published portfolio includes H200, H100, L40S, L40 and A100 families. The exact price table changes by region and time, so treat a displayed number as a planning input, not a standing global tariff.
Published H200 rates
| H200 option | Price per GPU-hour | Scope and date qualification |
|---|---|---|
| On-demand | $50.44 | Displayed North America table, CoreWeave page accessed in 2026 |
| Spot | $20.93 | Displayed North America table, CoreWeave page accessed in 2026; spot capacity is availability-dependent |
| Inference | $20.93 | Displayed North America table, CoreWeave page accessed in 2026; inference rate is model- and deployment-specific in practice |
These rates are not a complete project cost. Add persistent storage, snapshots, data transfer, public networking, orchestration, idle capacity and any minimum cluster commitment. Spot capacity also introduces interruption risk, so training jobs need checkpointing and restart logic before the lower rate is credible.
When CoreWeave fits
- Price visibility: You can estimate GPU-hour spend from a published table before requesting a quote.
- Specialist capacity: The service is centered on NVIDIA GPU clusters rather than a broad catalog of unrelated cloud products.
- Inference deployment choices: Dedicated, single-tenant and region-specific options help when latency isolation or residency matters.
- Portability: CUDA-based training and serving usually require fewer code changes than moving to an accelerator-specific compiler stack.
Still validate quota, cluster shape, lead time, storage performance, egress pricing and the exact region. A low hourly number does not compensate for a cluster that cannot be delivered when your training window starts.

AWS: NVIDIA, Trainium2 and Inferentia2 in one platform
Trn2 for training and large-model deployment
AWS says Trn2 instances use 16 Trainium2 chips and are designed for training and deploying generative models with hundreds of billions to trillion-plus parameters. Trn2 UltraServers connect 64 chips across four instances. AWS also claims 30–40% better price performance than GPU-based P5e/P5en instances. That percentage is an AWS claim, not an independent benchmark; reproduce it with your model, precision, sequence length, utilization and software version.
Trainium can be attractive when your workload is large enough to amortize porting effort and when the Neuron software stack supports every operation on your critical path. A CUDA project may need changes to data types, custom kernels, distributed communication, profiling and deployment images. Budget an evaluation sprint rather than assuming a drop-in replacement.
Inf2 for inference
AWS positions Inf2 as an inference accelerator built on Inferentia2 and supports distributed deployment across Inferentia2 chips. AWS states that Inf2 can deliver up to four times higher throughput and up to ten times lower latency than Inf1. Those are provider claims whose outcome depends on model architecture, compiler support, batch size, sequence length and serving configuration.
Inf2 is worth testing for stable, high-volume endpoints where utilization is predictable. Keep a GPU path available for models that rely on unsupported operators, rapidly changing kernels or third-party CUDA extensions.
Integration advantages and costs
AWS can reduce integration work for organizations already using EKS, SageMaker, object storage, networking and IAM. The same breadth can complicate cost control: region, purchase option, storage, inter-zone traffic, data transfer and managed-service usage all affect the final bill. Compare a complete pipeline, not only the accelerator line item.
Google Cloud: when a TPU is the right architecture
TPU strengths
Google describes Tensor Processing Units as custom application-specific integrated circuits designed to accelerate machine-learning and AI workloads. Its documentation emphasizes matrix-heavy models, large effective batch sizes and long training runs. TPU slices can scale to thousands of chips, making them a candidate for foundation-model training or sustained, high-throughput inference that maps cleanly to the TPU compiler and runtime.
Google documents support for JAX and PyTorch. Teams already using those frameworks should still inspect operator coverage, compiler behavior, checkpoint formats, debugging tools and the process for profiling a multi-chip slice. Framework support does not mean every custom CUDA kernel or extension has a TPU equivalent.

When GPUs remain safer
GPU infrastructure is generally the more portable choice for CUDA-specific kernels, heterogeneous preprocessing, frequent control-flow branching or workloads that combine many non-matrix operations in the main loop. If your model changes weekly or depends on a vendor library that assumes CUDA, include engineering time for a TPU rewrite in the business case.

Azure: a credible enterprise option with an evidence boundary
Azure belongs in the comparison when your organization has Microsoft enterprise agreements, identity controls or data platforms that make Azure integration valuable. The UK Competition and Markets Authority cloud-infrastructure report identifies Azure virtual-machine series among accelerated-compute offerings.
Do not publish a precise Azure price ranking from that evidence alone. The current live Microsoft tables for GPU prices, quotas, regions, reservation terms and accelerator availability need to be checked for the subscription and geography you will actually use. Ask Microsoft or your reseller for written figures covering the VM SKU, GPU count, host topology, expected quota lead time, storage, network transfer and any enterprise discount.
How the alternatives compare on the decisions that matter
Accelerator architecture and portability
Nscale and CoreWeave center on NVIDIA GPUs, which is usually the shortest path for CUDA, NCCL and existing GPU containers. AWS gives you a choice: stay on NVIDIA, or evaluate Trainium2 and Inferentia2 with Neuron. Google adds TPUs, which can be highly efficient for supported matrix workloads but require a compatible software path. Azure’s accelerated VM choice must be matched to the current SKU and quota in your target region.
Distributed-training interconnect
Large training jobs can be limited by communication rather than arithmetic. Request the node topology, GPU or chip-to-chip bandwidth, collective-communication behavior, placement guarantees and failure-recovery model. AWS documents a Trn2 UltraServer configuration connecting 64 Trainium2 chips across four instances. For every other provider, obtain equivalent topology and networking details for the exact cluster shape; do not infer parity from accelerator names.
Inference latency and throughput
Define the service-level target first: median and tail latency, tokens per second, concurrent requests, context length, batch policy and cold-start tolerance. CoreWeave exposes a separate inference rate and explicit GPU selection. AWS publishes Inf2 comparisons against Inf1, while Nscale describes production vLLM and Hugging Face workflows. Google TPU can suit high-throughput serving when the model compiles efficiently. Run the same prompts, tokenizer, quantization, batching and autoscaling policy on each candidate.
Capacity, quotas and lead time
Published capacity announcements do not equal immediately usable quota. Ask for the number of accelerators that can be allocated together, maximum single-job size, expected approval time, interruption policy and expansion path. This is especially important for spot training and for roadmap capacity such as Nscale’s planned Keflavik GPUs.

Regions and data residency
Map training data, checkpoints, logs, model artifacts and user traffic separately. A provider may offer the accelerator in one region while storage, managed orchestration or inference endpoints are elsewhere. Confirm cross-region transfer behavior and contractual residency language before moving regulated data.
Managed orchestration
Compare what is included in the managed layer: Kubernetes or batch scheduling, images, secrets, IAM, experiment tracking, autoscaling, rollout controls, observability and support response. AWS’s EKS, SageMaker, storage, networking and IAM ecosystem can reduce assembly work for existing customers. Nscale’s Ray, PyTorch, vLLM and Hugging Face positioning may reduce setup for those specific workflows. Specialist clouds can still require you to build more surrounding platform services yourself.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Worked cost model using the published CoreWeave H200 figures
Suppose a training run uses eight H200 GPUs for 100 hours. Using the displayed North America on-demand rate, accelerator time alone is 8 × 100 × $50.44 = $40,352. At the displayed spot rate, the same uninterrupted usage would be 8 × 100 × $20.93 = $16,744.
Those calculations are planning examples, not quotes. Spot interruptions, restart time, storage, data transfer, orchestration and idle periods can materially change the total. For inference, 10 GPUs running continuously for 30 days at the displayed $20.93 inference rate would be 10 × 24 × 30 × $20.93 = $150,696 before the same surrounding costs. Measure utilization and autoscaling behavior; a lower rate with poor utilization can lose to a higher rate with better packing.
A practical evaluation procedure
- Freeze the workload definition. Record model commit, parameter count, precision, context length, sequence mix, batch policy, dataset size and target region.
- List non-portable dependencies. Identify CUDA kernels, custom operators, tokenizer services, data loaders, networking assumptions and monitoring agents.
- Request capacity in writing. Get accelerator type, count, topology, region, quota, delivery date, interruption terms and support level for each candidate.
- Port the smallest representative job. Run a fixed training window or inference replay, not a synthetic microbenchmark.
- Measure engineering and infrastructure together. Track throughput, step time, tail latency, utilization, compiler time, failed jobs, checkpoint recovery and total dollars.
- Test failure and rollback. Interrupt a spot job, remove a worker, restore a checkpoint and redeploy the model on your fallback provider or accelerator.
- Choose a contract after the test. Use reservations or commitments only after quota, performance, egress and support behavior are documented.
Common failure modes
Choosing on hourly price alone
Accelerator rates omit storage, network transfer, idle capacity and engineering work. Build a per-trained-model and per-million-output-token cost, not just a GPU-hour comparison.
Assuming framework support means binary compatibility
PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX or vLLM support does not guarantee that every kernel, extension or quantization path works unchanged. Keep a compatibility matrix for your exact model and pinned software versions.
Best Value
Ignoring quota lead time
A technically suitable cluster is useless if approval takes longer than the project schedule. Secure quota and a fallback region before committing to a launch date.
Underestimating recovery work
Spot savings require frequent checkpoints, restart automation and idempotent data pipelines. Test recovery before relying on the spot figure in a budget.
Treating provider claims as neutral benchmarks
AWS’s Trn2 and Inf2 percentages, and Nscale’s future GPU count, are provider statements. Validate them under your model, software, region and operating policy.
