The Nothing Phone (4a) stands out on listed display resolution and periscope zoom hardware; the Samsung Galaxy A27 5G offers microSD expansion and a longer stated Android-upgrade horizon. Neither is an automatic winner: the better fit depends on which features matter to you and the prices available for matching configurations in your country.

Nothing Phone (4a) vs Galaxy A27 5G: key specs

These are listed specifications, not a matched lab test. Processor names and camera megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone is faster or takes better pictures. Battery capacity and charging wattage likewise do not predict equal real-world endurance or charging time.

How the displays differ

Nothing lists the higher resolution: 2720 × 1224 on a 6.78-inch panel, compared with Samsung’s 1080 × 2340 on a 6.7-inch panel. Both are AMOLED-class displays with refresh rates up to 120Hz. That makes the Nothing’s resolution the clearer specification advantage, but it does not by itself establish which screen looks better in every setting. Brightness figures measured using different methods should not be treated as a direct comparison.

Camera hardware: zoom versus a dedicated macro lens

Nothing Phone (4a)

Nothing’s rear setup pairs a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide with a 50MP periscope telephoto camera. TechRadar’s review identifies 3.5× optical zoom. That gives the phone a distinct zoom-camera option on paper.

Samsung Galaxy A27 5G

Samsung lists a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 5MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro camera. The OIS main camera and macro lens serve different purposes from Nothing’s periscope telephoto hardware.

The specifications describe different camera systems, not a proven photo-quality winner. Megapixel totals do not settle image processing, low-light results, autofocus or video quality. If camera performance is decisive, look for matched independent tests of both models rather than inferring results from the component list.

Storage, battery and charging

Samsung’s announced Galaxy A27 5G configurations include 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB, with microSD support up to 2TB. A card is a practical option for a large offline photo, music or video library; confirm support for the regional model and remember that the card is a separate purchase. Nothing’s reviewed launch configurations are 128GB and 256GB, and TechRadar does not list microSD expansion.

Both phones have batteries around 5,000mAh, while their listed wired charging rates differ: 50W for Nothing and 25W for Samsung. Those figures are manufacturer or specification claims, not a controlled comparison of charging times or battery life. TechRadar’s report of one-day use for the Phone (4a) describes that reviewer’s experience and should not be read as a guarantee for every user.

Software updates and long-term use

Samsung says the Galaxy A27 5G is eligible for up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, plus up to six years of security updates from its initial global launch. “Up to” is Samsung’s commitment wording; the announcement also carries availability and timing caveats. The promise is not independent verification that every update will arrive on the same schedule in every market.

TechRadar reports that Nothing promises three years of OS updates and six years of security updates for the Phone (4a). On the published promises, Samsung has the longer OS-upgrade horizon, while both are associated with six years of security support. The terms differ: Samsung states an upgrade-generation count, while Nothing’s OS commitment is reported in years.

Price difference: compare like with like

There is no dependable universal price gap established by the available figures. Nothing’s official UK store showed £379 for the selected 8GB/128GB variant when accessed. TechRadar recorded Phone (4a) UK launch prices of £349, £379 and £399 across configurations, and Australian launch prices of AU$649, AU$749 and AU$849. Those are launch-price references, not a guarantee of current retail pricing.

A comparable current Galaxy A27 5G retail price was not established in the cited official materials, so calculating a definitive price difference would be misleading. For a fair comparison, check both phones in the same country and on the same date, matching storage, RAM where possible, warranty, seller status and discounts. Do not compare a Nothing launch price with a Samsung sale price, or currencies from different markets.

Which phone should you choose?

Choose the Galaxy A27 5G if

  • You want microSD expansion, with Samsung stating support up to 2TB.
  • You place greater weight on Samsung’s stated OS-upgrade commitment of up to six generations.
  • You prefer its 50MP OIS main camera and dedicated macro lens, or want to stay within Samsung’s ecosystem.

Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) if

  • You want the higher listed display resolution.
  • You value a periscope telephoto camera with 3.5× optical zoom as reported by TechRadar.
  • You want the option of a 12GB RAM configuration.

Before deciding, compare actual local prices for the storage tier you need. If gaming speed or camera quality is the deciding factor, wait for independent testing that compares the two phones under the same conditions rather than treating the spec sheet as a performance verdict.
