The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro adds a slightly larger, faster-refreshing display, a higher advertised zoom ceiling, an aluminium unibody and an IP65 rating. The Phone (4a) shares the Pro’s 3.5x optical periscope zoom, 5,080 mAh battery, 50 W charging and stated software-support period, so the Pro’s value depends on whether its specific upgrades justify the price for your storage configuration.

The Pro has the larger, faster display
The Pro’s screen is 0.05 inches larger diagonally and supports an adaptive refresh rate up to 144 Hz rather than 120 Hz. Nothing also lists a higher peak-brightness figure for the Pro: up to 5,000 nits against up to 4,500 nits for the Phone (4a). These are manufacturer-stated ceilings, not a promise that the panel will reach them in every situation.

The optical zoom specification is shared
Both phones list a 50 MP OIS periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom. The advertised maximum differs—up to 70x on the Phone (4a) and up to 140x on the Pro—but that maximum zoom headline should not be confused with optical zoom. The published figures alone do not establish that images at the maximum digital zoom retain optical-quality detail, or that one phone takes better photos overall.
The Pro changes the body and ingress rating
Nothing lists an IP65 rating for the Pro and IP64 for the Phone (4a). The Pro has an aluminium unibody, while the Phone (4a) has a glass back with aluminium details. Nothing’s product pages say each model was tested under 25 cm of water for up to 20 minutes. Those statements are not a reason to deliberately expose either phone to water; an IP rating is not a guarantee against damage in every real-world situation.
The named chipset tier differs
The Phone (4a) uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4; the Pro uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. The model names identify different chipsets, but no independent benchmark results are available here to quantify a performance gap in particular apps or games.

Nothing Phone (4a) vs 4a Pro camera: what the specs tell you
On paper, the shared 3.5x optical periscope zoom is the central camera point: the base phone is not missing that headline optical-zoom feature. Both also list a 50 MP OIS main camera and a 32 MP front camera, although Nothing identifies the Pro’s main sensor as Sony. The higher 140x advertised ceiling on the Pro is a difference in the maximum zoom claim, not evidence of better image quality at that range. Without independent photo testing, these specifications cannot settle which phone produces better everyday pictures.
Battery life and charging
Both models list a 5,080 mAh battery and 50 W fast charging. Nothing’s product pages give different scenario-specific playback estimates:
| Nothing-stated estimate | Phone (4a) | Phone (4a) Pro |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube | 21 hours | 20 hours |
| 26 hours | 25 hours | |
| Music | 26 hours | 28 hours |
| Calls | 47 hours | 51 hours |
These are Nothing’s estimates for named usage scenarios, not independent battery tests or a direct measure of mixed-use runtime. The figures should not be read as a consistent advantage for either model across a typical day.

Nothing Phone (4a) vs 4a Pro price difference in the UK
Nothing’s UK prices depend on storage configuration and the page or offer being viewed. Is the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro worth the extra money?
Choose the Phone (4a) if
- You want the lower-cost route to a 50 MP OIS periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom.
- A 6.78-inch display with adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz meets your needs.
- You value the same stated OS- and security-update duration without paying specifically for the Pro’s display, body or ingress-rating differences.
Consider the Phone (4a) Pro if
- You specifically want the 6.83-inch panel and its adaptive refresh ceiling of 144 Hz.
- The higher advertised zoom ceiling is useful to you, while recognizing that it is not a claim of optical-quality results at 140x.
- You prefer its aluminium unibody or want the higher published ingress rating, IP65 rather than IP64.
Whether those differences are worth paying for is a personal value judgment, and the answer depends on the live, like-for-like configuration prices where you shop. The specification comparison supports choosing based on these features; it does not establish a universal performance or camera-quality winner.
